Perfect for Valentine’s Day or an anniversary, these homemade mini apple pies are as charming as they are delicious. With a flaky, buttery crust and a warm, spiced apple filling, they’re the perfect treat for surprising a loved one or just indulging in some cozy baking fun. Easy to make and even easier to eat, these heart-shaped delights will bring a smile to anyone’s face.

Ingredients

  • Pre-made pie crust
  • 4 Green apples (We used Granny Smith)
  • 3 Tbsp unsalted Butter
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • ¼ cup brown sugar
  • 2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 tsp nutmeg
  • 1 Tbsp tapioca

Instructions for Preparing the filling

  1. Preheat oven to 425°F
  2. Core apples and chop into small pieces
  3. Melt butter in skillet
  4. Add apples, salt, granulated sugar, and brown sugar
  5. Stir and simmer till apples are softened (about 6 min)
  6. Mix in bourbon, nutmeg, and cinnamon
  7. Stir in tapioca and allow mixture to thicken
  8. Remove from heat

    Instructions for Assembling Hand Pies

  1. Line baking sheet with parchment paper
  2. Roll open dough and use cookie cutter to stamp out hearts
  3. Brush edges with egg wash
  4. Fill with about a tablespoon of apple mixture
  5. Cut vent in the remaining (top) pieces of dough with a small heart shaped cutter
  6. Top each filled piece and press edges with fork to seal
  7. Brush each pie with egg wash and sprinkle with sugar
  8. Bake pies for 18-20 minutes till tops are golden brown
