Weatherized Outdoor TVs
Life is full of difficult decisions, but few are as painful as choosing between the grill and the game. Picture this: everyone’s inside and on the edge of their seats as your team fights for a win in the closing moments, but you’re well aware the burgers are about to burn in the backyard. Do you miss the game-winning play, or risk ruining dinner? You might consider dragging your TV outside to avoid this situation in the future, but you know deep down it can’t handle the elements or the glare of sunlight. When faced with such a dilemma, your only choice becomes clearer than a dazzling 4K picture — you need a Weatherized outdoor TV.
It all starts with units from trusted brands (in this case, Samsung and LG), which are then calibrated for outdoor viewing and converted for outdoor use. From there, all Weatherized TVs are hydrophobically treated to safeguard the internal circuit boards against moisture, humidity, and other harmful elements. Full-exposure Elite models go one step further with an external weatherproof wrapping that’s strong enough to handle total exposure to just about any set of conditions.
Weatherized TVs will last, but how do they look? We’re glad you asked! Each model uses HDR (High Dynamic Range) to provide just the right contrast between light and dark colors, bringing a detailed and vibrant picture to your backyard no matter what’s on the tube. We’ve already discussed why you’d want to show the big game outdoors (no need to revisit that nightmare), but an outdoor TV also lets you sit back for family movie night without having to cram into the living room. Even if you just enjoy mindlessly scrolling through channels after a long day of work, you can appreciate the luxury that Weatherized TVs bring to your backyard.

Weatherized TVs FAQ
Are Weatherized TVs worth the cost?
Weatherized TVs are a great value for outdoor entertainment. Weatherized TVs take models from highly-trusted brands, such as Samsung and LG, and recalibrate them for outdoor use either in open areas or on covered patios. They apply Hydrophobic Technology to protect the electronics from water and dust to enable years of outdoor viewing enjoyment. Weatherized TVs can operate in temperatures as low as -15 degrees and as high as 125 degrees Fahrenheit.
Is there really such a thing as an outdoor TV?
Absolutely. Outdoor TVs are generally re-calibrated to serve a bright picture in either shady or sunlit areas, and a variety of techniques are employed to protect the electronics from heat, cold, dust, and water.
Can a regular TV be used outdoors?
We don't recommend using a regular TV outdoors. In most cases, without recalibration the picture will not be bright enough for outdoor viewing, and in nearly all cases the electronics aren't protected from extremes in temperature, humidity, or dust. Also, in most cases a regular TV's warranty is invalidated if used outdoors.
Do waterproof TVs exist?
Waterproof is a word not usually used when discussing outdoor TVs. Outdoor TVs are modified to resist moisture, heat, and cold, but they aren't engineered to withstand submersion in water. Water-resistant? Yes! WaterPROOF? Not so much.
Can Weatherized TVs get wet?
Weatherized TVs are protected from incidental water, but shouldn't be sprayed with a hose. The Elite models can withstand moderate rain, but should be at least 6 feet away from any water source. The Prestige models are designed to be covered by a roof and can't be placed near any type of water source. We recommend that all outdoor TVs be covered when not in use to protect them fully.
What should I look for when buying an outdoor TV?
There are several factors to consider, including screen size, location of the TV, how you plan to mount it, etc.. Visit our Outdoor TV Buying Guide for details.
