Love hate relationships with this grill
Bought this grill a few months ago, and have a love hate relationship with it. Was purchased after my weber summit got hail damage. This thing flairs up way too easily if you cook anything with decent fat content. The front also cooks a lot hotter than the back. I love having a rotisserie and a sear station for reverse sear from my smoker. This grill has made me move from cooking on my gas grill more to using my smoker more. See the pork chops inches from each other front to back and one is torched. The middle flavorizer bars should be deeper and level with the burner flavorizer bars imo. I've had much cheaper grills cook better
  • Flairs up way too easily and heat isn't even

It's ok but
The Bbq is ok, but I found for the price it was not that great of an investment, The concepts of a side searing unit and stainless grills was appealing, but a year later and I certainly do not see the value. I would suggest to anyone considering this unit to really think about it if the mid grade bells and whistles are worth it.

Very weak engineering
The left sear table is crooked, the hood does not sit flush with the top, one side is 3/4 of an inch gap and higher than the other, to be honest, to anyone with an eye for symmetry, I am almost embarrassed to have it on my porch. The sad part is that feature wise and functionally it performs exactly as I expected.

Badly peeling after just 3 years
My Napoleon bbq Pro665 has been a disappointment. Every (I mean EVERY) chrome piece on the bbq is bubbling and peeling. Unacceptable on a bbq of this price. Also having difficulty lighting the main burners with the manual lighting mechanism. My last Napoleon.

Grill lighting has a design flaw
I bought this grill 2 years ago. Within that time Napoleon has come out to change the grill hood once and the lighting 3 times. The repair tech says it appears to be a design flaw as the lights sit too loosely in their housing so after a few months they stop working. Several missed days of work, 40 emails, and countless hours waiting on hold with them they still haven't provided a solution. Until they fix this issue I wouldn't count on the interior lights working.

Too Many Flare Ups !
I bought this grill earlier this year and am now regretting the decision. While I admit I am certainly no grilling expert, I have never had a grill that flares up this much regardless whether I am grilling steaks, burgers, etc. The flare ups occur beneath the burners. I can hear everyone saying buy a better brand of meat, I don't go cheap. My co-worker, who purchased and recommended this same grill, had his grill go up in flames two months ago ! I should not have to clean under the burners every time to reduce my concerns of this being a safety hazard. I know many are happy as can be with this unit, but I am not and will not recommend this grill to others.

Works great. Scratched product. Disappointed
I received the silver Grill scratched on the hood with some black markings that won't come off and the drip pan came deeply scratched. I Could not clean off. Disappointed since your paying so much for a grill you should receive it in good condition. The grill works great. Many other vendors sell this product look into the reviews about the scratches. I would recommend it to friend just maybe a different vendor.

Good, but not great
First off - I'm not an "alternate brand" fanboy or a Napoleon troll. I'm a customer who for 14 years has used a gas grill as our sole cooking appliance (4 days a week over the last year and a half) at our cabin, all year long, in all weather. Ive been using a premium line from a popular major brand for the last 13 yrs and recently replaced it with a Prestige 500 RSIB which i bought late last summer, and started using early this year. I've been using the new grill extensively for 4 months now and have a good sense of what it does well, and not so well. The good: awesome and flawless ignition system for the main and side burners. Very powerful and convenient infrared side burner (works very well despite our relatively windy location) - boils water quickly, and you can even have 2 separate small pots on the burner at the same time (if you need to boil a vegetable and cook rice for example) The grill has very stable temperature control when you set it up for indirect smoking. It will literally hold temperature for hours with little to no adjustment if the wind and outside ambient temperature are consistent. The Napoleon smoker tube is a great add on. The grill appears well built, very solid, and had clear assembly instructions. The not so good: the grill grates don't fit very tight into the grill box, so they rattle quite a bit when people walk around the deck. This lessens over time as a bit of residue builds up under the grates, but it's still noticeable. Despite cooking the same meals, with the same methods, this bbq flares up a lot more than our prior grill. A LOT MORE! It also has very specific hot and cold spots, a surprising number of them actually, so I find myself rotating food within or across cooking zones in order to cook items evenly or save them from a glaring hot spot. This grill also accumulates a lot more build up, and requires more frequent cleaning of the large tray under the burners. Again, my cooking items, methods, and temperatures are the same on this and the old grill, so it's a fair direct comparison. I think it's the shallower angle of the large tray that allows residue to stick and accumulate, rather than flow down into the drip pan. Overall, the grill is good and has a lot going for it, but I'd be lying if I didn't say I wasn't a bit disappointed with the performance of the main grill with the issues above. the biggest issue is the flare ups and inconsistent heat & hot spots. The rest are minor annoyances, but the cooking flaws have impact every single time I use it.

The Skinny:

  • Well-known brand name
  • Affordable price point
  • Reliable ignition system
  • Great accessories and storage features
  • Made in North America
  • Good warranty

Things We Love:

The Napoleon Prestige is a nice freestanding gas grill with innovative accessories and storage features. The Prestige series is available with an infrared rear burner and rotisserie. The P500 has an optional infrared “sizzle-zone” side burner. I love that when the side burner or ice bucket are not in use, the lid is flush - giving you full access to the side shelf space. You can also add a charcoal tray giving you different ways to cook. The Napoleon Prestige comes with blue backlit control knobs. The control knobs have SafetyGlow technology that changes the backlight color from blue to red when a burner is in use. I also really like Napoleon’s doubled lined “lift-ease” lid, which opens easily and helps hold in heat for optimal heat retention. The lid is hinged near the middle and, when open, adds hardly any depth to the back of the grill. This allows for easy placement in a variety of spaces.

Napoleon Prestige grills have stainless steel tube burners that are lit by a "Jetfire" electronic ignition. The P500 comes with stainless steel grates which have a patented wave design that creates unique sear marks to spread heat evenly, Napoleon has stainless steel sear plates. The plates also protect the burners and help reduce flare-ups.

The P500’s infrared “sizzle-zone” is a unique feature on this grill. Its grate is adjustable, allowing you to change the position of the grates. You can lower the grates to the burner for cooking with pots and pans as you would on a conventional side burner, or raise the grates to a higher position for searing meats like steak.

The Prestige 500 is also available in a built-in model, which would make a great centerpiece in your outdoor kitchen.

The warranty on the Prestige series is a standout in its class, having a lifetime warranty on the exterior housing, cooking grids, and porcelain enamel coated lid. Napoleon also boasts a 10 year + 5 warranty on their burners and flame tamers that provides replacement parts at a 50% of normal cost for 5 years after the 10 year warranty expires.

Available only for a limited time, consider Napoleon’s brand-new Phantom Prestige 500 gas grill. Everything you love about the Prestige 500 is here, but bathed in a sophisticated, stylish matte black finish. Love that reliable Napoleon JetFire electronic ignition? How about those four stainless steel tube burners topping out at a combined 48,000 BTUs? Even the 18,000 BTU rear infrared burner and 14,000 infrared side burner make it into this limited, special edition revision.

For all intents and purposes, this is the same grill with a phenomenal, unique design. But there are a few key upgrades: Phantom trades in stainless steel cooking grids for hardier cast stainless steel ones, at the cost of a mere 20 square inches of grilling space. (That’s a trade we’ll make any day.) Instead of stainless steel, the grill cart is now durable, rust and corrosion-resistant black steel. And, of course, that stainless finish has been swapped out for an eye-catching black design that’s sure to turn heads for seasons to come.

Thing To Consider:

While this grill is built tough, and backed by a strong warranty, Napoleon Prestige grills are not "all stainless steel", which is what many customers are shopping for nowadays. Along with the stainless steel components on the grill, you will also find cast aluminum and porcelain enameled steel components too, such as cart legs, back panels, etc.

Question:
What is the grade of stainless steel used in the frame/cabinet, lid, and shelves of this grill? Also, in comparison to the black/ gray version of this same grill, which should have greater longevity and be easier to maintain?
Was This Helpful?
Answer:
Hello Ryan, The lid of the grill is made with 304 Stainless steel. The cart is made from Powder coated galvanized stainless and the shelves are made with 430 stainless steel. The main difference is that the black model has a porcelain coated steel exterior, which may chip with time and use. The stainless steel model is more durable.

Question:
Is a 1/2 inch outside diameter copper gas line sufficient to power this grill?
Was This Helpful?
Answer:
Hello, the Napoleon Prestige 500 requires 11 inches water column for propane lines and 7 inches water column for natural gas lines of gas pressure. While the 1/2-inch diameter of the line may be suitable, it will depend on how long the line is. Longer lines will require a larger diameter pipe. You will need to have a licensed plumber or gas fitter inspect the line to see if it is suitable.

When Will My Item Arrive?

Once shipped, items usually arrive within 3–5 business days. If your item or order is large, it may ship via one of our third-party freight carriers, which deliver from semi trucks with lift gates. Freight delivery is much more complicated than standard parcel shipping — you must schedule a drop-off time, be present for the delivery, and move items from the curb to your residence, among other differences. Sound stressful? If you prepare in advance with our guide to freight delivery, it doesn’t have to be.

We strongly encourage reading the entire freight delivery guide, but here’s a quick snapshot of what you need to be ready for when you order a large package:

  • Your freight carrier will call you to schedule a delivery window of about 4–8 hours
  • You’re required to be physically present at the specified delivery location during the scheduled window
  • Freight shipments are carried in semi trucks, which have lift gates to assist with unloading
  • Freight deliveries are dropped off at the curb and no further — not up the driveway, not the porch, not the garage, and most definitely not the backyard — so it’s on you to transport packages to their intended location
  • For an easier time hauling items to your home or backyard, arrange for at least 2 helpers to be on standby during your delivery window
  • You must sign for the shipment to indicate that you’ve accepted the delivery

Again, we recommend reading our entire breakdown of freight delivery so you can become familiar with the process. Trust us when we say that getting caught off guard with the strict requirements of freight delivery can lead to a whole lot of headaches.

Most companies charge a restocking fee. We just don't do business that way.

Message to our customers: Like all retailers and manufacturers, we’re currently experiencing well-publicized supply-chain issues and steel shortages that have caused some orders to be delayed. We sincerely apologize for any inconveniences arising from this situation, and we assure you we’re making every effort to solve these problems with our vendors and logistical partners.

So, why are some orders being affected? Major ports around the world are still operating at reduced capacity because of COVID-19 restrictions — on average, container boats sit at port for about 3 weeks before being unloaded. Combine these shipping inefficiencies with a scarcity of natural resources, and virtually every industry has been crippled to some degree.
