Tabletop & Portable Electric Grills

Electric grills offer up-notch convenience, but tabletop electric grills take it one step further. These portable models are great for on-the-go grilling and small spaces, such as apartment patios, campsites, and even boats! Most outdoor portable electric grills also plug into a standard outlet, so you can use them anywhere you have power and don’t have to worry about purchasing and transporting propane tanks or charcoal. Though tabletop electric grills are too small to cook for large groups and rated for outdoor use only, there are many reasons to add one to your cooking arsenal. We evaluate our portable electric grills using three main criteria: construction, convenience, and power.

Varied Construction Options

Outdoor tabletop electric grills can be built with the same materials as gas grills, but some brands use different substances to make their models more lightweight and portable. The common exterior materials are 304 stainless steel, cast aluminum, and painted steel. Keep in mind that while 304 is stronger and more durable, aluminum tends to be more lightweight, less expensive, and better at conducting heat. The cooking grates found in these grills are usually made of chrome, porcelain-coated cast iron, plated steel, or porcelain-coated steel. No matter what your grill is constructed with, it’ll be easy to assemble and ready to cook in no time!

All-around Convenience

Have you ever gotten geared up to grill only to realize you were out of charcoal or propane? With outdoor portable electric grills, that will never be a concern! Many of these units also have a built-in, shut-off timer so you don’t have to babysit your food, and components like cooking grids and grease trays can usually go in the dishwasher for easy cleanup. These grills are great for people hesitant about working with fire or those who just want a simple grilling experience. Throw in the fact that they’re typically allowed in areas where open flames are prohibited, and the convenience of tabletop electric grills is hard to beat.

Power in a Small Package

While most outdoor tabletop electric grills work with a standard, 120-volt outlet commonly found in homes, some require power of up to 220 volts. With heating elements measuring about 1,500 watts, these models can reach temperatures between 150–725 degrees Fahrenheit for low-and-slow cooking or a nice searing session. They also preheat faster than gas grills — some in just seven minutes — so you don’t have to wait around to start grilling.
