Customer Reviews
Good smoker. Very easy to use with the digital screen
Pitt Boss has great products we have own a smoker and 2 pellet grills and loved them all and cooks great.
I love the features of this PBV301 smoker but the oven temperature reads much lower than actual temperature with the error increasing from about 40 deg F error (reading 110 at an actual temperature of 151, reading 155 at an actual temperature of 224, and reading 240 at an actual temperature of 320 deg F). This makes it pretty useless for accurate smoking. Do you have a fix for this sensor or how do I replace this smoker that has only been used for the initial curing step?
As the oven temperature is increased from 100 to 350 the sensor reads lower than actual with the low reading error increasing from about 40 deg F low (105 deg F) at when actually 145 deg F with the error increasing as the temperature increases (reading 155 instead of 224 and 230 when actually 320 F and 255 when actually 340 F). This error makes it pretty useless for accurate smoking.
Packing was good. Burn off was no problem so far. Getting ready for the first seasoning.
Brand new and would not work. Went back immediately and exchanged for another one and it works fine.
Smoked two tri tips so far. Has worked flawlessly, and given amazing flavor! Of course old school straight wood is king, but when it comes to convenience, call me crazy, but I prefer electric over pellets. Maybe I've just had bad units, or bad pellets, but I doubt it because I've tried multiple of both. Had electric first, loved it and got great results, tried a couple different pellet smokers and did not like any of them. Came back to electric when I found a great deal on this, and it's been great so far.
The family and I are loving the smoky flavor that comes from a good smoker like this
Won't heat up to where its set at. Wish I would of bought a different brand.
Per instructions...tried to operate at 350 for 30-40 minutes to cure paint and burn off residue. Per digital indicator it can't reach over 255. Used a temp gun and temp was over 400. How can I accurately cook without being able to trust the thermostat?
Questions & Answers
Hi Burt. According to the manufacturer, pellets can create too much fire inside the smoker and less smoke, whereas wood chips will smolder with less heat and more smoke.
Asked by Burt | Answered by Joey, BBQGuys ExpertHi Hilary, thanks for asking! These smokers are pretty simple to use, they're great for both the experienced and inexperienced. Loss of heat and smoke should be expected to occur when opening these up while in use, however, if y'all are noticing that it is a lot of heat, you'll want to consult the manual for Maintenance or call us at 877-743-2269 if the issue could not be resolved. Hope this helps!
Asked by Hilary | Answered by HunterHey! It can fit a turkey that is somewhere between 10-12 pounds. Hope this information helps!
Asked by Am | Answered by LukeHi Scott. As the main material used for construction is not stainless steel, we would recommend getting a cover for it or storing it under shelter whenever possible to maximize longevity.
Asked by Scott | Answered by JoeyHi, Roger. Pit Boss does not recommend the use of wood chunks or wood pellets with their electric smokers. The wood chip box should only be filled with wood chips.
Asked by Roger | Answered by SethGreat question! Unfortunately, using a cooking bag will prevent the smoke flavor from reaching the meat and should not be used in a smoker. There are several reasons why meat may dry out in a smoker and just like riding a bike, it takes practice and a bit of scraping your knees to get it right. Depending on the type of meat you are trying to smoke will depend on the best method, but some techniques that have helped our BBQGuys team are brining, injecting, using a dry rub or marinating the meat, using an internal thermometer, and adding a water/liquid pan to the smoker. Low and slow is the key to smoking and a great rule of thumb is to keep temperatures around 225 degrees throughout the process. When will my item arrive?
Once shipped, items usually arrive within 3-5 business days. While UPS and FedEx are our carriers for smaller items, be aware that larger items and orders are shipped via freight. The freight process is a bit more complicated than what we've all come to expect for small parcels, so it's important that you're prepared and understand what's required of you well before delivery day.
- Most freight products ship on a pallet
- Some carriers will call to schedule a delivery window, while others will deliver the shipment to a reasonably accessible location closest to your residence (their goal is to deliver as near a garage door as they can).
- We'll specify which process you can expect in your shipping confirmation email.
For carriers that schedule delivery appointments:
Carriers that schedule delivery appointments require you to be home for delivery and provide your signature. The delivery is made with a semi-truck with lift gate services, and the shipment is dropped off at the curb. If you authorize the shipping company to leave the delivery without a signature, BBQGuys can't be held responsible for damages that occur during delivery. As complicated as this process may seem, we've only scratched the surface here — please review our detailed guide to freight delivery so there are no surprises when a freight shipment heads your way.
For carriers that deliver without an appointment:
Carriers that deliver without an appointment don't require you to be home or set up a delivery window, and you aren't required to sign for the pallet(s). Instead of scheduling an appointment, arranging your schedule to be home for the delivery, and signing to confirm receipt, you can sit back and let your items come to you. If you're home at the time of the drop-off, you can request the driver place your delivery in the garage; if you're out of the house, the driver will leave it near the garage or doorstep.
