I used this product forever. Replaced the controller and used it forever again. Then it started tripping the GFI and it became very unreliable. I tried everything the service line recommended. No luck.

I've had this smoker for 14 years and use it regularly. Actually smoking another turkey a week after Thanksgiving for our 2nd Thanksgiving since one daughter was out of town for the first 😆. Never had to do a thing to it over all these years other than a little inside cleaning every couple of years. Awsome product!

I have had the smoker since July, 2022. I use the unit about 4 times a month. I have cooked Prime Rib roast, beef back ribs, beef plate ribs, BB pork ribs, pork spare ribs, briskette, chicken,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, lot's of stuff. All turned out great. The unit performs flawlessly - comes to temperature and stays there. The unit uses very little wood and does give a nice smoke flavor. This unit is more than big enough for my household of 2 with occasional visitors. I can easily cook enough for a group of friends. One downside is the cost. On the other hand, my prior unit was a different brand that was a quarter of the cost yet it lasted only 4 years. This unit? I think it's realistic to say it will out last me. Very well constructed. I have gotten over the price by now as it is so reliable, I never concern myself with how the food will be at the end of the smoke - I know it will be perfection!

I was so excited about this because I have a friend that loves his and has had it for 10 years. I took his advise and bought it, but have had several issues with it that for me give me serious regrets about purchase. I don't like writing negative reviews because I'm sure this is a great company trying to keep things going, but for me I don't even want to use it and I've only had three months and used 3 times. I live in Texas so it gets warm, but it I didn't use this for the first time until mid September and halfway through a 12 hour brisket smoke it shut off. None of the buttons would turn it back on. I finally had to unplug it to reset it. I called Customer Support for Cookshack and they told me the controller will over heat if its in direct sunlight too long. Well, I have no where to put it that it won't be getting direct sunlight for part of the day and for sure during use on long smokes. The second thing that really bothers me about this exact model is its a little too narrow for a big brisket and a rack of ribs rubs on both sides of the oven so you really can't put them in parallel to the door. If you want to season them or sauce them during a cook you have to slide the whole shelf out (which btw drips a huge mess all over the ground in front of the smoker) requiring two hands and lots of hassle. The third (and major for me) issue is somehow liquid/moisture is escaping and doesn't make it to the drip pan, but instead makes its way to the wheels so it leaves big black stains where the wheels are. I have a stained concrete patio that new has black circles on it that have taken lots of work to try and remove. So in order for me to use this thing it has to be in the right amount of shade and I have to cover the surface its on to keep from staining of just not worry about the mess. Again, I know its a great company with highly rated products, but for someone like me trying to get into smoking on occasion this one is not for me! I regret this purchase!!!

I bought an American made smoker hoping to avoid this: a defective latch that will not lock into place with the slide bar. Very disappointed that such an expensive (and made in the USA) product doesn't work properly and was shipped defective.

Very well insulated. Simple controls. Very efficient wood utilization. Added my own water pans. It's not beautiful but who care?

The unit I bought was a 120v, but had a 240v heating element in it, installed at the factory by accident. I realized something was wrong when it took forever to heat up. I called Cookshack and they said that they may have inadvertently installed a 240v element. They sent me a new 110v element to install. While installing the element, I noticed that several welds were really sloppy, and they had welded the area closed that was needed to access the heating element. I managed to bend the sheet metal back and install the element, and it works okay now. I'm not real happy about having ruined a cook, with lots of expensive meat, or the fact that I had to do the repair work myself. After I was done, I realized that setting my tools on top of the unit had caused some minor scratching on a smoker that I hadn't used successfully yet. It's irritating, but no fault of the BBQGuys. Cookshack never offered any sort of apology or compensation for my work or frustration. In fact, they ignored my last email offering to return the 240v element, and making them aware of the sloppy workmanship. I'm afraid I could not recommend this smoker, mainly because of the quality issues.
Questions & Answers
Hi Tom. Yes, the round opening is the vent. It will also allow for temperature probes to access the oven.
Asked by TomPayne | Answered by WesleyHi Tony! The maximum temperature that the meat probe reads is 199 degrees Fahrenheit.
Asked by Tony | Answered by JamesHi Les! The height overall with the control panel and casters is 32.5-inches. The width is 20.5-inches and depth is 19.5-inches.
Asked by Les | Answered by Tiffany, BBQGuys ExpertHello. You can easily fit and smoke a ham in all Cookshack smokers.
Asked by MT | Answered by SethHi, Nick. The casters won't affect how the smoker performs, but you won't be able to move it easily without them. If you want to keep the smoker in one place, the casters can be locked.
Asked by nick | Answered by SethGreat question! This is definitely an outdoor unit. As with any grill, maintaining the heat may require a little more upkeep in cold weather than normal, but it's well insulated so it should hold up to the test!

When will my item arrive?
Once shipped, items usually arrive within 3-5 business days. While UPS and FedEx are our carriers for smaller items, be aware that larger items and orders are shipped via freight. The freight process is a bit more complicated than what we've all come to expect for small parcels, so it's important that you're prepared and understand what's required of you well before delivery day.
- Most freight products ship on a pallet
- Some carriers will call to schedule a delivery window, while others will deliver the shipment to a reasonably accessible location closest to your residence (their goal is to deliver as near a garage door as they can).
- We'll specify which process you can expect in your shipping confirmation email.
For carriers that schedule delivery appointments:
Carriers that schedule delivery appointments require you to be home for delivery and provide your signature. The delivery is made with a semi-truck with lift gate services, and the shipment is dropped off at the curb. If you authorize the shipping company to leave the delivery without a signature, BBQGuys can't be held responsible for damages that occur during delivery. As complicated as this process may seem, we've only scratched the surface here — please review our detailed guide to freight delivery so there are no surprises when a freight shipment heads your way.
For carriers that deliver without an appointment:
Carriers that deliver without an appointment don't require you to be home or set up a delivery window, and you aren't required to sign for the pallet(s). Instead of scheduling an appointment, arranging your schedule to be home for the delivery, and signing to confirm receipt, you can sit back and let your items come to you. If you're home at the time of the drop-off, you can request the driver place your delivery in the garage; if you're out of the house, the driver will leave it near the garage or doorstep.
