This is my third Cookshack, owning the last one for over 5 years, and still have the same questions; How do you get ashes out of heating element tray, I have to use a shop vac? And why doesn't the drip tray attach to the unit? I don't know who the engineer was who changed these items was, but they must have also designed the Ford Pinto, AMC Pacer, and Pontiac Aztec..........

This is my 2nd Cookshack in 16 years. I love the ease of use. The small size (40lb capacity) is perfect for a small family. It uses very little wood per smoke. Always cooks perfectly. Happy Me!

This is my second cookshack...I owned a sm008 for 24 years. Always worked great until there were some temp variations. I purchased a sm045 recently - 12/28/2024. Delivery/shipping was as expected. My only complaint is that there were no instructions, registration or cookbook inside. I am sure this must be an oversight given the overall quality of the product.

I bought my first Cook shack smoker in 1994 and it is still working fine, I've since replaced it with a new Super Smoker a few years ago which is a fantastic unit also Can't day enough good things about it.

I have had this smokers for a couple years now. When it's working correctly it does great. After the first winter I started it up and it popped the GFI for the outlet. Reset everything and moved on with no problem. I started to notice that if the unit was unused for a while then the first use would pop the GFI again. Called the number and talked to support and they said it was just humidity and after it warmed up it would be fine. I finally dug into it and the first thing I noticed is that there is no UL or CE certification tag on it. I think the current path that is poping the GFI breaker is inside the box where the heating element mounts to the chassis.

Purchased this on black friday. Quick delivery. It takes longer to heat up than I thought it would. Have smoked a couple of chickens on it. They were perfect. Thermometer is accurate. Easy to clean up.

Questions & Answers
HI Bob. Cookshack smokers require a 120-volt, 15-amp circuits. You may want to have an electrician check the ground fault receptacle. Unfortunately, they don't last forever, and become more sensitive to variances in line voltage.
Asked by Bob with 1 oh | Answered by WesleyHi Othy. The Cookshack SuperSmoker can be set at holding positions after smoking foods.
Asked by Othy | Answered by WesleyI have house in the hill country, where the humidity not as bad as coast. I have my smoker for little over a year, and I keep it on covered porch. I have had no problems with it. I have had cook shack smoker at my house in Midland for 20 hrs and no problems, although no humidity. Good luck.
Asked by Randy | Answered by mtisdaleWe've had our smoker for several years with high humidity in Illinois. It's working just fine, no problems. Happy smoking!
Asked by Randy | Answered by eudoraclareI personally keep mine outside on a patio on a covered carport. So far, it is held up to the elements quite nicely. Jeremy Coco Certified Executive Chef www.chefjeremycoco.com Facebook.com/chefjeremycoco Twitter.com/chefjeremycoco
Asked by Randy | Answered by jeremyI live just north of Atlanta and have my smoker on a screened-in porch. The humidity gets quite high here in the summer and the smoker has held up just fine for several years now. I do keep it covered when not in use.

Asked by Randy | Answered by johnlknudsenAbsolutely!! Very satisfied with this product overall too.
Asked by Randy | Answered by bridgewater.timHi Ted - I would say it is OK, providing you shield the unit from wind. Typically, I use my Traeger when it's cold in NE. Asked by Ted | Answered by provencalWorks excellent and maintains constant temperature when cold or hot outside
Asked by Ted | Answered by bridgewater.timI have an older model and the outside temp has very little affect on the cooking temp. I bought a newer version, but have only had it during the summer. It seems to be as well insulated as the older model. Hope this helps. T. Asked by Ted | Answered by mtisdaleIt holds it temperature very well, within 5 or 10 degrees. Best cooker for your money. Easy to get the smoke flavor, it only takes one small square about 2inches .
Asked by Ted | Answered by ivansbarnsWe live in Cleveland and use all year without issues.
Asked by Ted | Answered by kellyloiczlyVery well. Well insulated and a great unit all around
Asked by Ted | Answered by fredI have used this smoker to smoke turkey at Thanksgiving but I live in Atlanta where the temperature is usually above freezing around that time. The cooker did maintain the temperature quite well even with the temperature in the 40s. I hope this helps.
Asked by Ted | Answered by l.m.perryI live in Az.....so cold is 36 degrees. It's a great product simple to use and does a nice job with minimum hassle. As long as it's dry And out of the wind you should be ok
Asked by Ted | Answered by skj1156That is exactly what I use mine for. I was having trouble keeping my old propane smoker at the right heat on Thanksgiving in the Northeast. The Cookshack has kept its heat perfectly in the cold.
Asked by Ted | Answered by sterabIt's well insulated. We haven't used in the middle of winter but I think it should work well.
Asked by Ted | Answered by eudoraclareHi Joe! The outside height of the box itself is about 24 inches so you will not have 18 inches of hanging room from the top shelf. The maximum cooking capacity of the SM045 is 40 pounds of heavy cuts of meat or 24 pounds of ribs. The cooking shelves are 14 by 18 inches. Hope this helps.
Asked by Joe | Answered by TiffanyHi Corey. This should not be used indoors.
Asked by Corey | Answered by JoeyHi Rick - 1) This does include an aluminum drip pan. 2) A water pan is not included. 3) You add the wood from the front, by sliding the wood box into the slot at the bottom of the open unit.
Asked by Rick | Answered by NickHi, Garth. You absolutely can smoke briskets and get a nice bark on the outside with a Cookshack smoker.
Asked by Garth | Answered by SethHi Rob. The amount of wood can vary depending on your personal taste. The manufacturer recommended 2 ounces of wood when cooking up to 60 lbs of meat. Adding too much wood, or adding more during the cook can cause food to taste bitter.

When will my item arrive?
Once shipped, items usually arrive within 3-5 business days. While UPS and FedEx are our carriers for smaller items, be aware that larger items and orders are shipped via freight. The freight process is a bit more complicated than what we've all come to expect for small parcels, so it's important that you're prepared and understand what's required of you well before delivery day.
- Most freight products ship on a pallet
- Some carriers will call to schedule a delivery window, while others will deliver the shipment to a reasonably accessible location closest to your residence (their goal is to deliver as near a garage door as they can).
- We'll specify which process you can expect in your shipping confirmation email.
For carriers that schedule delivery appointments:
Carriers that schedule delivery appointments require you to be home for delivery and provide your signature. The delivery is made with a semi-truck with lift gate services, and the shipment is dropped off at the curb. If you authorize the shipping company to leave the delivery without a signature, BBQGuys can't be held responsible for damages that occur during delivery. As complicated as this process may seem, we've only scratched the surface here — please review our detailed guide to freight delivery so there are no surprises when a freight shipment heads your way.
For carriers that deliver without an appointment:
Carriers that deliver without an appointment don't require you to be home or set up a delivery window, and you aren't required to sign for the pallet(s). Instead of scheduling an appointment, arranging your schedule to be home for the delivery, and signing to confirm receipt, you can sit back and let your items come to you. If you're home at the time of the drop-off, you can request the driver place your delivery in the garage; if you're out of the house, the driver will leave it near the garage or doorstep.
