Customer Reviews
Have been using alot over the 5 months I have owned and everything turns out with amazing flavor. I smoked and cooked a 10lb prime rib and it was the best I had ever tasted. Plenty of smoke with just one full smoke box of chips. The key to getting the most smoke flavor is to wait for the smoker to be rolling out smoke before placing meat in it.
I purchased this smoker and have used it once. I was not able to maintain a steady smoking temperature as it would spike to 350+ degrees. The controller display does not show anything now and my smoker is essentially dead. I don't see the replacement controller for my smoker since they only offer pellet controllers on the website.
I bought this at Walmart a bit over a year after my dad's Masterbuilt died. I love it! A few months ago, we were getting ready to smoke a brisket and had an issue with the control panel. After sending my info to Pit Boss customer service via Twitter, I had a new control panel and the even sent 5 different Pit Boss rubs and seasonings with it (love those too). They really back up their product with service, which has served to make me a loyal Pit Boss customer for life. Now I'm shopping for a pellet grill and I'm only looking at Pit Boss.

Have had issues with this thing holding temp. It struggles to cook a single pork shoulder. It was set at 275 for 9 hours and the internal meat temp stalled at 165 4 hours in and when I checked it 5 hours later the probe still said 165. Opened it up and it felt like a warm sauna inside. Had to wrap it and finish indirectly on my grill. I've tried vents open vents closed and everything in between. The last straw is the screen has stopped working. I plug it in and it's black and does nothing.
I love the smoker but I ordered a couple extra grate racks on April 28, 2020 and they were back ordered for 4-6 weeks. and as of this date ( July 15, 2020) they are still "processing" and when I try to call customer service I never get through. And when I leave my number for a call back I never get a call. I am very disappointed in this low level of aftermarket service !
My display (apparently like most others) started to go bad only a few months after purchasing the smoker. Now it's completely out. Spent 55:51 on hold with customer support yesterday before deciding to "Press #1" to stay in the queue and get a call back that never came. Called back in today and just sat on hold for 1 hour and 29 minutes before giving up. Smoker doesn't hold heat well and won't produce much smoke from wood chips when the temp is under 225 degrees... which is higher than I'd like when smoking many things.
Just bought this smoker. Set temp and it kept reading above set temp. I'm kinda confused as how to set cooking temp even though we followed directions. Would like some help.
I bought this item several months ago, was just putting it together today got completely thru it and when we went and shut the door the glass blew out everywhere. How can I purchase just the glass door? Can't find it on your website as a replacement part.
I just purchased this smoker today. Did the initial"burn off " per the manual. Immediately threw the erh code. I shut it off, let it cool down. Figured it was a fluke thing. Went ahead and put my brisket on. The readout said 150 degrees but i knew it was hotter then that because my food was cooking. I think it was at maximum temp even though the readout said it was much cooler. Finally it quit working about half way through and just said err. Won't turn back on. Troubleshooting said the temp sensor is bad. This thing is literally only half a day old. Called customer service and couldn't get through. I really need to talk to someone about it and get a replacement part.
On 2 occasions now my pit boss has caught fire inside. It will no longer work due to the temp probe being bad from the heat. My problem is a safety issue. If you press the smoke button after you open the door to up the heat and smoke, it does not stop. The heat continues and runs away until it basically goes into error mode. I was told this morning by "john" that its doing this due to ke using pellets and not wood chips and would not replace my temp probe. So I ordered my probe and will not recommend this smoker or pit boss to anyone that may ask. I do not believe the pellets are the cause. I would actually think the pellet is more likely not to catch fire compared to a wood chip. But thats just my opinion.
Questions & Answers
Hi Joe, thanks for asking. You can certainly use wood pellets with this smoker. You may have to purchase a smoker box in some cases, which we don't have available on our site currently, but if you call us at 877-743-2269 then we'll help you to get one ordered.
Asked by Joe joe | Answered by HunterHi Bill. This smoker is for outdoor use only, but it is not waterproof. It should be stored indoors or in a covered area when not in use.
Asked by Bill | Answered by JoeyHey Jim! Unfortunately, the racks and the rails are not available as an accessory. Hope this information helps!
Asked by Jim | Answered by LukeHi Dwayne. Yes, this smoker is double walled for insulation. Other Pit Boss electric smokers are double walled, and our Smokin Tex and Cookshack electric smokers are also insulated.
Asked by Dwayne | Answered by JoeyHi Marlo, Pit Boss recommends this smoker be used with wood chips only.

When will my item arrive?
Once shipped, items usually arrive within 3-5 business days. While UPS and FedEx are our carriers for smaller items, be aware that larger items and orders are shipped via freight. The freight process is a bit more complicated than what we've all come to expect for small parcels, so it's important that you're prepared and understand what's required of you well before delivery day.
- Most freight products ship on a pallet
- Some carriers will call to schedule a delivery window, while others will deliver the shipment to a reasonably accessible location closest to your residence (their goal is to deliver as near a garage door as they can).
- We'll specify which process you can expect in your shipping confirmation email.
For carriers that schedule delivery appointments:
Carriers that schedule delivery appointments require you to be home for delivery and provide your signature. The delivery is made with a semi-truck with lift gate services, and the shipment is dropped off at the curb. If you authorize the shipping company to leave the delivery without a signature, BBQGuys can't be held responsible for damages that occur during delivery. As complicated as this process may seem, we've only scratched the surface here — please review our detailed guide to freight delivery so there are no surprises when a freight shipment heads your way.
For carriers that deliver without an appointment:
Carriers that deliver without an appointment don't require you to be home or set up a delivery window, and you aren't required to sign for the pallet(s). Instead of scheduling an appointment, arranging your schedule to be home for the delivery, and signing to confirm receipt, you can sit back and let your items come to you. If you're home at the time of the drop-off, you can request the driver place your delivery in the garage; if you're out of the house, the driver will leave it near the garage or doorstep.
