Great smoker and really happy with the cooks

As a long time BGE user, I got fed up with my cooks over the last year. I just bought the Kamado Joe Classic II and am back to being anxious to cook/smoke again. The KJoe arrived on time and was well packaged. It was an easy setup and had more accessories and ways to cook/smoke than the Egg. There was a bit of a learning curve as there are more configurations. My first two cooks were OK but the next three were outstanding. Last night I made a rack of pork and my wife volunteered that it was the best I've ever done. I've cooked about 30 racks of pork over the last 10 years. Clean out is bit easier than the BGE. The dome is much easier to lift and top vent is much easier to set accurately.

Love this grill!

I have waited longer than I should have to purchase the Kamado Joe Classic. It cooked a 6lb pork butt to perfection. The meat was juicy and shredded with ease.

Superior Kamado!

Overall, the Kamado Joe Classic ll is a fantastic product. I'm a former BGE owner and I can testify that the KJC ll is a superior product. It has a better top hinge and gasket. The ability to cook at 2 different levels gives you many options. The ash catcher drawer improves clean up. Like the BGE it's great for low and slow, or for getting high temps. If I'm going nit-pick, I'll say the 1/2 grates are annoying to clean when they're inside the unit. However, the bottom line is this is an elite kamado cooker.

The Skinny:

  • Fastest growing name in kamado industry
  • "Divide and Conquer" cooking system
  • Wire mesh fiberglass gasket
  • Amp firebox
  • Air-lift hinge
  • Great warranty

Things We Love:

Kamado Joe is all about the spirit of innovation and passion for cooking outdoors, and it shows in their products. Kamado Joe strives for value and a reasonable price point but doesn't cut corners on quality. Their grills are visually striking, from the red color, the eye catching logo on the top vent, down to the stainless steel bottom vent. Kamado Joe grills feature a black steel band, and the freestanding models include a sturdy steel cradle and plastic side shelves that will stand up to the elements for years to come.

Kamado Joe grills are known for their "Divide and Conquer" cooking system which features split stainless steel cooking grids on a rack that allow for cooking different food at different levels, all at the same time! Another nice extra that Kamado Joe has is a set of included accessories with each grill, consisting of an ash tool, cooking grate gripper, and heat deflectors. Most brands don’t include these accessories and the ash tool and patented pull out ash drawer really make cleanup a lot easier. Ceramic heat deflectors are a must with any kamado grill and I like that they're included with every Kamado Joe grill, whereas they're an extra charge with most other brands. The new amp firebox, which comes in 6 pieces helps reduce breakage. One nice addition to the BigJoe is the firebox vertical divider which allows for increased versatility when piling your charcoal on one side of the grill only.

One of my favorite features is the air-lift hinge, which come on the Classic and BigJoe models. Kamado grills are notorious for having heavy lids, that can take some muscle to open and close. Heavy lids can also cause your ceramics to break by accidentally slamming the lid shut. Kamado Joe's air-lift hinge reduces the weight of the lid by 96%, making opening and closing your lid a breeze. The new cast aluminum kontrol tower top allows for consistent airflow, stays in position, & prevents rain from entering the grill. This takes the worry out of having to constantly adjust the airflow when you open and shut the lid.

Kamado Joe now has a durable wire mesh fiberglass gasket. This gasket offers a superior air-tight seal, and is 10x the life of normal industry gaskets. Kamado Joe has also added a new stainless steel latch that is self activating, giving it an ultra air-tight seal.

There are also many available optional accessories that increase the versatility of Kamado Joe’s grills. The chicken stand, grill expander, and pizza stone, are a few of the most popular. If you really want to get the most out of your Kamado Joe, you can’t go wrong with the Joetisserie. This rotisserie, allows you to roast a wide variety of meats while naturally basting them in their own juices.

Thing To Consider:

Kamado Joe’s bestselling size, the Classic, features a cooking grid that is only 18” in diameter, this may cause you to have to cook in batches vs all at the same time when cooking for larger groups of people. It might also present a challenge when trying to cook over-sized cuts of meat, such as a 14-15 pound brisket. These concerns are not really an issue with the BigJoe!

You'll Like This Grill If:

You want a high quality kamado style grill with more cooking versatility and easier clean up than any other round kamado on the market!

Question:
For outdoor kitchen I want to build a place for the the classic 2 joe, what depth do I need so the lid can fully open. The back of the grill area will be against a wall. So what depth will it need to be so the lid can open without hitting the wall?
Was This Helpful?
Answer:
Hi Dakota! The open clearance of the lid is minimum 8 inches. For more helpful specifications, there is a file labeled "Kamado Joe Classic II Specifications" under Manufacturer's Downloads on this product page. Give us a call at 877-743-2269 if you have any further questions!

Question:
I saw the feet are needed due to the temp of the bottom to stop burning but will that be needed if the surface is concrete?
Was This Helpful?
Answer:
Hi Mfutao. While the feet do help prevent damage to surfaces below the kamado, they also help protect the kamado itself by allowing for proper airflow around the base. If the kamado base is in direct contact with the surface it's resting on, that surface might also act as a heat sink and cause your grill to lose temperature.

Asked by ThomasAnswered by Rosa

Question:
If I order this stand alone classic 2 from Kamado Joe, does it include the 4 small feet? Or do I have to pay the $23 and order them separately? And is it necessary to have these feet if I put the Kamado inside a table?
Was This Helpful?
Answer:
Hi, Jon. The Stand-Alone Classic II already includes 3 grill feet, and they must be used if the grill is placed in a table. The bottom of the grill gets especially hot, so the feet are needed to keep the table from burning or getting too hot to touch.

Free Shipping on orders over $49

When will my item arrive?

Once shipped, items usually arrive within 3-5 business days. While UPS and FedEx are our carriers for smaller items, be aware that larger items and orders are shipped via freight. The freight process is a bit more complicated than what we’ve all come to expect for small parcels, so it’s important that you’re prepared and understand what’s required of you well before delivery day.

  • Most freight products ship on a pallet
  • Some carriers will call to schedule a delivery window, while others will deliver the shipment to a reasonably accessible location closest to your residence (their goal is to deliver as near a garage door as they can).
  • We’ll specify which process you can expect in your shipping confirmation email.

For carriers that schedule delivery appointments:

Carriers that schedule delivery appointments require you to be home for delivery and provide your signature. The delivery is made with a semi-truck with lift gate services, and the shipment is dropped off at the curb. If you authorize the shipping company to leave the delivery without a signature, BBQGuys can’t be held responsible for damages that occur during delivery. As complicated as this process may seem, we’ve only scratched the surface here — please review our detailed guide to freight delivery so there are no surprises when a freight shipment heads your way.

For carriers that deliver without an appointment:

Carriers that deliver without an appointment don’t require you to be home or set up a delivery window, and you aren’t required to sign for the pallet(s). Instead of scheduling an appointment, arranging your schedule to be home for the delivery, and signing to confirm receipt, you can sit back and let your items come to you. If you’re home at the time of the drop-off, you can request the driver place your delivery in the garage; if you’re out of the house, the driver will leave it near the garage or doorstep.

No Restocking Fee

Most companies charge a restocking fee. We just don't do business that way.

Message to our customers: Like all retailers and manufacturers, we’re currently experiencing well-publicized supply-chain issues and steel shortages that have caused some orders to be delayed. We sincerely apologize for any inconveniences arising from this situation, and we assure you we’re making every effort to solve these problems with our vendors and logistical partners.

So, why are some orders being affected? Major ports around the world are still operating at reduced capacity because of COVID-19 restrictions — on average, container boats sit at port for about 3 weeks before being unloaded. Combine these shipping inefficiencies with a scarcity of natural resources, and virtually every industry has been crippled to some degree. Yet we acknowledge that it’s our duty to meet these challenges head-on and work toward solutions so you can enjoy more time outdoors with the people you love. We appreciate your patience as we strive to smooth out our supply chain, and we thank you for choosing us for your grilling and outdoor living needs.
