Primo Oval XL 400 Ceramic Kamado Grill With Stainless Steel Grates - PGCXLH

I've been BBQing, smoking meats, etc. for ~30 years. Received this a week ago and so far we've enjoyed chicken, rib eyes, pork chops, and various squash ... each has turned out incredible. Very easy to transition to cooking on this. Bought all the accessories and very flexible to cook just for the two of us; or for a whole party. Definitely look forward to making bread in this as well as spatchcocking a turkey and cooking it in there. For those that enjoy smoking ... shifting to lump charcoal in this is an amazing change. Recommend not using any wood chunks you are accustomed to until you first taste the difference with how this flavors the food so well given the circulation you can create depending on how you install your divider plate, heat shield, etc. I plan on only adding a single chunk in future experimentation to take it slow and see how the flavor changes. Zero complaints. Took about 15 minutes to be setup and I used a brick platform/table that is working great.

We love our primo, so we purchased this one as a wedding gift for our daughter. They love their new grill and we are enjoying getting to share recipes!

I purchased the XL400 in 2013 with the large cypress table. Over the years I purchased a cover, searing grill, 2 raised grills 2 ceramic deflectors with racks, and firebox divider. Over the years I replaced the temperature gage, grate and seal twice. The grill has always cooked great from steak, chicken, hamburgers, pork roast, chops and loin. I've cooked fish, kabobs and the last few years l have gotten into low temperature smoking. In 2021 I filed a warranty claim for my firebox which had developed a single crack. Premo declined the claim saying the firebox was still functional. I continued to use the grill for 2 more years with no problems. In late 2023 I noticed a second crack in the firebox and the 2 pieces of the firebox were laying against the inside of the lower half of the grill. I also noticed spiderwebing in the glazed surface of the grill. I again filed a warranty claim with Primo and they honored the claim and sent me all ceramic replacement because the current replacement parts are not interchangeable with grills manufactured prior to 2014. I paid for a new handle/hinge assembly and grate plus shipping. I received my new grill last week and I am currently refinishing and repairing the cypress table before placing the new grill in it. My only complaint about the Primo is the exterior metal parts rusted but not to the extent they were not functional.

I mostly use it to slow cook brisket ribs chicken 300f very happy with it it is different from the green eqq which I also have. But I like it more and would purchase it again.

Its really important to me to support American business and manufacturing and Primo grills are made in America. I purchased my Primo Oval XL in December 2020 along wth the cypress table and have really loved it since. I thought about going a touch smaller but the really glad I went with the larger grate. I made the switch from gas to harwood lump charcoal and thought it would be a steep learing curve but was pretty easy. The Primo Oval XL is a super versitile grill - I use it for roasting, grilling, and smoking. The XL size easily accompdates a full brisket with room to spare. The hardwood lump charcoal makes a huge differnce in taste of the food. The Primo warranty is excellant and covered a replacement ceramic fire box when the old one cracked through use. BBQ Guys Service Department are stars and have easily and quickly taken care of my warranty questions and replacements.
