Known Issues Not Addressed

Assembly was easy, although it took longer than expected. I can only give the smoker 2 stars because it has yet to perform. Apparently there is a known issue with the controller boards that Pit Boss has not fixed. By the time I receive the replacement part, it will have been over a month since I purchased the smoke.

GREAT UNIT & CUSTOMER SERVICE

I agree with the gentleman that had issues with the control panel needs to be relocated. I'm on my second controller & it is starting to separate the clear cover is all ready starting to peel at the top & I've only cooked 5 times scent I installed the new one (under warranty). I called the customer service department and they sent out the new one with out any hassle (THANKS) OTHER THAN that problem it is a great unit. Kept pillets dry clean out the burner & you should be able to smoke at hi temps with out fire occurring Again we need to move the controls to better spot or a better cover for the controls

Great Customer Service - Awesome Product

I purchased a 3 series vertical pellet smoker. As with most grills/products like this, they have it packaged tightly and requires assembly. After assembly I was disappointed to discover the auger motor was not functioning properly and therefore the smoker would not feed pellets into the burn pot. I did not think I could get it back into the box to take it back so I called pitboss customer service. They were knowledgeable and diagnosed the issue very quickly. They sent me a new motor along with easy to follow instructions for installing which arrived in less than a week. Now the smoker works perfectly. I'm so happy with how this pellet smoker works. I'm used to traditional smokers with the wood chips, etc. and I must say this pellet smoker is a step above. This beast heats up to temperature in less than 10 minutes. When turning on, it starts smoking in only a couple of minutes. I love the temperature range from 150-450... anything you can cook in an oven you can cook in the "Boss". I've cooks ribs, chicken, pork, salmon, shrimp and even meatloaf all with great tasting results. I'm gonna get a pizza into it today. What is also great is how easy it is to vacuum out the burn pot. You don't have to dismantle all the grates to get at it like some others. Just remove the heat shield and water pan and you have access. If you like sitting in your yard with a cold one smoking some nice meat, check this out. Thanks Pitboss!

Bang for your buck!

I bought this smoker yesterday and have already put it to use! Very easy to assemble with the directions and the burn in process is a breeze. The only things I would change is a thicker gasket on the door for a better seal and move the electronic controls to the side or on top somewhere. Other than that, this smoker can't be beat for the money!

Don't even consider this fire hazard

The first use was so so and took some getting use too. Was using it to accompany another pellet grill and in exactly three months (2/28-5/28) this grill/oven burned up completely. The entire control panel melted and ruined all of my meat due to the melting plastic fumes going through the smoker. I sent Pit Boss an email along with pictures the day it happened and have yet to hear back from them. I would not recommend their products to anyone and their customer service sucks.

Best for the money!

Still happy 8 months in and used every other weekend at least! The only minor complaint is that the temp does vary about 20 degrees up and down between the time it calls for fuel and the time it stops. I've had other electric units, gas units and charcoal units in past. This little guy for the money is well worth it. Seeing other reviews on here that are saying bad things make me wonder about the user. Take the time to clean the smoker, store it in a dry area and or make sure your pellets are dry always and you should have no issues. That goes for any pellet unit!

Hasn't worked properly from day 1

Purchased this smoker as an upgrade from my original Smoke Hollow that I have. Straight out of the box there have been nothing but issues with it. The site glass on the side was cracked from the screws being overtightened during production, the door hinges were bent making it unable to seal properly, and the control board was very loose due to the screws being tightened down too much and stripping the plastic. Despite that it fired up perfectly for the initial burn off, but that was it... Tried to smoke a brisket and it was all downhill.. I could not set the temp to anything higher than 225 because the auger kept feeding too many pellets causing flames to shoot out of the sides of the heat shield and the Internal temp kept going over 500 and then giving error codes. Had to unplug and wait for it to cool down and clean it all out several times(needless to say I unhappily had to finish my brisket in the oven) customer service was great when I called them about the issues with it out of the box and got my replacement parts ordered quickly. The control board and hinges were on back order but not a big deal as long as I could still use it. Now I can't even plug the smoker in and turn it on because it runs for roughly 3 min and trips breakers. I have moved it around to several plugs all with the same result. Very frustrating because I see several reviews of people that have great experiences with theirs which leads me to believe that maybe I just got a dud. Hopefully I can figure out how to get everything resolved Soni can actually roll some smoke instead of just looking at it with disappointment.

Had for 8 months

Have had a smoket for about 8 months had smokes some ribs and butts on it and turned out great. Turned the smoker on hot and it melted the the control panel but the smoker kept working and now when I went to use it the other day the igniter that lights the pellets does not work. The control is flashing something but can't read it.

I am currently on hold and have been for 30 minutes. (So that tells me every one smokers or grills are having problems.)

The Skinny:

  • Temperature range between 150–450 degrees Fahrenheit
  • Large-capacity hopper for extended cooks
  • Large window to monitor food
  • Designed with sturdy materials

Things We Love

Temperature-control Features

You can’t have low-and-slow cooking without consistently low temperatures. That’s why the guys at Pit Boss designed their Copperhead Series pellet smokers with easy-to-use controls that let you pinpoint exact heat levels within the 150–450-degree temperature range. When you’ve got guests to entertain or food to prepare, there’s nothing better than the 10 temperature presets and startup and cooldown cycles found on the Copperhead smokers.

It’s when you’re cooking, though, that these features really shine. Several components of these Pit Boss smokers — the external heat indicator, included meat probe with digital LED readouts, and large viewing window — allow you to stay informed without opening the door and letting precious heat or smoke escape (the sturdy door latch deserves some praise, too). If you need to open the door to show off the goods or just want an extra boost of flavorful smoke, there’s also a prime function that burns a new batch of pellets with a 300-watt ignitor and fan-forced draft.

Durable & Efficient Design

At this point, you might be wondering why Pit Boss calls these smokers Copperheads. It has nothing to do with snakes (no judgement if smoked snake is on the menu at your next cookout) — instead, the name comes from the beautiful hammertone copper finish of these pellet cookers. Underneath that attractive finish is a cold-rolled, double-walled steel body with high-heat coating, giving Copperhead Series smokers the durability for years of cooking.

But Pit Boss also values an efficient smoking experience, so Copperhead models come with a slide-out grease tray and ash pan for simple cleanup. Moving the smoker around is even easier thanks to two front swivel caster wheels and two more in the rear that can lock into place. For those who’d like to give water-smoking a try, the included water pan can be filled with marinades or other liquids to provide extra flavor and moisture. Trust us, you’ll want to give it a try.

Large-capacity Hopper

Did we mention these pellet smokers can cook a whole bunch of food? The two Copperhead Series models have different pellet capacities and cooking areas, but the smaller 3 Series edition shouldn’t be overlooked. With the Pit Boss Copperhead 3 Series, you get 800 square inches of cooking space across four adjustable racks and a hopper that can hold up to 35 pounds and smoke for 18 hours. The Pit Boss Copperhead 7 Series, meanwhile, boasts 2,059 square inches of cooking area, six porcelain-coated racks, a 60-pound hopper, and a smoke time of up to 24 hours!

No matter which model you choose, the hopper has a side window to check fuel levels, a hinge door for quick refills, and a clean-out door to empty the pellets or change flavors. Just keep in mind that the Copperhead Series works best with Pit Boss pellets.

Things to Consider

If your goal is to smoke at low temperatures for an extended period of time without refilling your fuel, the Pit Boss Copperhead Series is a great option for you. But we know you may have more questions about these smokers, which is why our BBQ experts are standing by at 1-877-743-2269 to help you make the right decision.

When will my item arrive?

Once shipped, items usually arrive within 3-5 business days. While UPS and FedEx are our carriers for smaller items, be aware that larger items and orders are shipped via freight. The freight process is a bit more complicated than what we've all come to expect for small parcels, so it's important that you're prepared and understand what's required of you well before delivery day.

  • Most freight products ship on a pallet
  • Some carriers will call to schedule a delivery window, while others will deliver the shipment to a reasonably accessible location closest to your residence (their goal is to deliver as near a garage door as they can).
  • We'll specify which process you can expect in your shipping confirmation email.

For carriers that schedule delivery appointments:

Carriers that schedule delivery appointments require you to be home for delivery and provide your signature. The delivery is made with a semi-truck with lift gate services, and the shipment is dropped off at the curb. If you authorize the shipping company to leave the delivery without a signature, BBQGuys can't be held responsible for damages that occur during delivery. As complicated as this process may seem, we've only scratched the surface here — please review our detailed guide to freight delivery so there are no surprises when a freight shipment heads your way.

For carriers that deliver without an appointment:

Carriers that deliver without an appointment don't require you to be home or set up a delivery window, and you aren't required to sign for the pallet(s). Instead of scheduling an appointment, arranging your schedule to be home for the delivery, and signing to confirm receipt, you can sit back and let your items come to you. If you're home at the time of the drop-off, you can request the driver place your delivery in the garage; if you're out of the house, the driver will leave it near the garage or doorstep.
