Kicks Weber to the curb...but it ain't cheap...

After a lifetime of very happy Weber patronage, I decided to up my game when I bought my new house and did some research. Saber was a brand I'd never heard of but I liked the reviews and am aware that its parent brand has been around for quite some time. So I bought the 670 and saved a ton by going with the porcelain hood. Assembly was challenging because I did it solo...I do not recommend solo unless like me you're a long-time weightlifter which allowed me to maneuver the hood on my own - GET HELP assembling this beast. Once assembled, I fired it up and have enjoyed a year of happy grilling. My Webers never got as hot as this grill. This works great when sous vide cooking because the meat barely touches the grill and it's got its crust as desired. I am fastidious about not spending full price on anything. But knowing how wonky grills can be, I decided to blow past my budget and have zero buyer's remorse. If you've got the coin, drop it on this grill. You can thank me later.

The black cast 670...love it!

I was initially introduced to the all stainless 670 back in the fall. I found out Saber was coming out with the black cast 670 with the improved cart design within a few months and waited for that model. It was worth the wait! I like the look of the grill and the quality is the same throughout all the models. I'm happy with my purchase but also happy with the support of Saber. I have had several conversations with the folks in customer service and they are first rate! It feels good to make a confident purchase in a great product.

Fantastic Grill with even heat

We purchased this grille as an upgrade to what we were using. For the price and comparisons of other grills in this class we felt this had everything we needed. The grill is a beast, as in it's HEAVY! When they say it takes two people to build, trust them. It's cooks steaks phenomenally, and we also have the rotisserie for it that has make some amazing chicken. It cooks veggies perfectly and even even grilled some peaches that were awesome and had some fine grill marks. My only con is cooking at low temps isn't optimal. And the gauges are always off although they look nice.

No

NOt sure why this unit is classified as "infrared" It doesnt not reach the temps or performance of a true infrared grill. Also, be prepared to clean this grill more that you will be cooking on it. I had to replace the hose/regulator due to dangerous leaks, that if I didn't listen closely at tank hookup, could have been catastrophic. If you really want a true infrared, go elsewhere.

Would buy if using propane. Wouldn't buy if using NG

First I want to say that the build quality is top notch, exactly what I expected. I love cooking on the grill, it cooks evenly and gets really hot. Well it gets really hot when running on propane. I bought this because I could easily convert from propane to NG. I put the NG conversion kit on, which again is very simple. You simply remove the LP orifices out of all of the burners and install an NG regulator. At initial turn on it just wasn't getting as hot as I expected it too. Based on reviews I expected on high to be around 700 degrees. I called Saber and they sent me a new NG conversion kit, which was very easy. As I was waiting for the new kit to arrive I reinstalled the LP parts. The grill was amazing on LP. Pre-heat I easily hit 700-750 degrees. When the new NG kit arrived I installed it. Same results as the first one, so disappointing. I called Saber again and this time they said, "well it shouldn't get as hot on NG". I fully disagree, my cheap Charbroil grill was almost exactly the same on LP or NG. I've since switched back to LP, I just wish I didn't have to worry about keeping LP bottles around. In conclusion buy it if you are only using LP. Find something else if you are using NG.

The Skinny:

  • Great value infrared grill
  • Evenly heated cooking surface
  • Virtually no flare-ups
  • Heat zone separators for multiple cooking zones
  • Easy to keep clean
  • Excellent customer service after the sale

Things We Love:

Saber offers great value infrared gas grills, along with excellent customer service after the sale. However, it's Saber's patented infrared cooking system that is the heart of the grill and what I love the most about them. The 304-grade stainless steel cooking grids feature air-channels on the bottom side, which trap hot air and create an excellent surface for nice sear marks, and offer quick heat recovery when flipping your food over. The cooking grids sit on top of 304-grade stainless steel emitter plates, which cover the entire surface of the grill, allowing heat to radiate evenly across the grilling surface. This also means that any food drippings that fall between the cooking grids, will be caught and vaporized back into your food in the form of delicious smoke. The emitter plates feature tiny air holes that line up directly under the cooking grids, which focuses the heat exactly where you want it, at the cooking surface. Because this design also restricts air flow, you'll find that grease drippings, which normally cause flare-ups, are transformed into rich smoke and makes this cooking system virtually free from any flare-ups.

Saber's infrared cooking system also reaches searing high temperatures, which is great for steakhouse quality sear marks on your food. While cooking on this grill, I was able to reach a maximum temperature of 850 degrees.

Under the emitter plates, you'll find 304-grade stainless steel tube burners, each producing 8,000 BTUs of cooking power. The burners are ignited by a battery powered spark ignition. Sitting between each burner are heat zone separators, which allow you to cook with different temperature zones at once. This is great for searing steaks in one zone, while slow roasting veggies in another zone.

Another innovative feature of Saber that I love is the warming rack. While many gas grills include a warming rack, Saber's warming rack allows you to adjust it to sit inches above the cooking surface as a roasting rack, giving you extra cooking versatility. However, if you're cooking ribs or another dish that stretches across the heat zones, be sure to remove the heat zone separators so your food cooks evenly.

Saber grills also include a grate scraper tool and full width slide-out drip pan, making clean up of any grease that may fall into the firebox a breeze. It is worth noting that after multiple cooks on this grill, I could not find a single drop of grease that fell below the cooking system and into the drip pan. This is definitely a bonus if you're looking for a low maintenance grill.

We carry 3 collections of Saber grills; the Elite Series, the Premium series and the Deluxe series. The Premium series is available in 3 and 4 burners, as well as built-in and freestanding configurations. The Deluxe series freestanding models include a side burner on the left shelf. This dual-tube side burner gives you cooking flexibility, and both burner tubes combine to produce 18,000 BTUs, which is one of the most powerful in the gas grill industry.

The Deluxe series offers the same cooking system as the Stainless Steel series, but features a stainless steel or porcelain coated hood with cast aluminum sides and powder coated cart, which gives the grill a different look and makes it more affordable. The Deluxe 500 and Deluxe Black 670 models include a 10,000 BTU standard side burner, while the other models do not.

You may also be interested in some of the popular accessories that Saber offers for these grills, which includes a griddle, easy-read meat thermometer, and dual-use grill brush.

Things To Consider:

Saber's firebox, heat zone separators, and drip pan are not stainless steel, but are made of porcelain coated steel, which can chip and rust over time and are only warranted for 5 years.

Also, like most infrared grills, don't expect to cook at low or warming temperatures. The lowest temperature we were able to achieve was 450 degrees.

Saber grills offer individual cooking zone thermometers that sit at grate level above each burner. However, like many gas grill thermometers, we found them to be inaccurate.

You'll Like This Grill If:

You want a great cooking infrared grill for the money, from a brand with excellent customer service after the sale.

Question:
Will this grill perform similarly on natural gas as it does in liquid propane? One review seems to indicate not

Answer:
I bought the natural gas conversion kit, installed it, and love it. I haven't used it with propane but it performs very well on natural gas. It gets plenty hot for all your needs. -jim

When will my item arrive?

Once shipped, items usually arrive within 3-5 business days. While UPS and FedEx are our carriers for smaller items, be aware that larger items and orders are shipped via freight. The freight process is a bit more complicated than what we’ve all come to expect for small parcels, so it’s important that you’re prepared and understand what’s required of you well before delivery day.

  • Most freight products ship on a pallet
  • Some carriers will call to schedule a delivery window, while others will deliver the shipment to a reasonably accessible location closest to your residence (their goal is to deliver as near a garage door as they can).
  • We’ll specify which process you can expect in your shipping confirmation email.

For carriers that schedule delivery appointments:

Carriers that schedule delivery appointments require you to be home for delivery and provide your signature. The delivery is made with a semi-truck with lift gate services, and the shipment is dropped off at the curb. If you authorize the shipping company to leave the delivery without a signature, BBQGuys can’t be held responsible for damages that occur during delivery. As complicated as this process may seem, we’ve only scratched the surface here — please review our detailed guide to freight delivery so there are no surprises when a freight shipment heads your way.

For carriers that deliver without an appointment:

Carriers that deliver without an appointment don’t require you to be home or set up a delivery window, and you aren’t required to sign for the pallet(s). Instead of scheduling an appointment, arranging your schedule to be home for the delivery, and signing to confirm receipt, you can sit back and let your items come to you. If you’re home at the time of the drop-off, you can request the driver place your delivery in the garage; if you’re out of the house, the driver will leave it near the garage or doorstep.
