Great smoker when modified.

This smoker holds temps very well and for a long time but I needed to modify it to suit my needs. With the water pan full and all the vents open this smoker only got to maybe 250 and would not go higher. I removed the water pan and replaced with a home made baffle to prevent too much direct heat to the underside my meat. Then I added another vent to the lid increase air flow. This gives me way more range in temps. Now I can easily run 275-300 for ribs. The middle rack is too close to the coals so it's not super useful. Also it's very susceptible to big temp spikes when the lid is off for more than 30sec or so. Once modded and I learned how it runs, I can make some seriously delicious food. I do love it

A satisfying piece of art to own

I wanted to do some meat smoking but did not want a dedicated smoker, as my family is not in love with "heavily" smoked food. My intentions were to lightly smoke homemade summer sausage, briskets, and whole chickens. So far, I'm learning the temp control process by trial & error. A few things I wish Weber would have used that are better quality. The gauge could have been larger and better sealed. The door is a little flimsy. Also wish they made the top hinged. Aftermarket parts are fairly expensive.

Works as advertised

Best Christmas turkey I ever smoked. Maintains a consistent temperature. Cooked turkey on the top and smoked baked beans below. Much easier to control than my old offset smoker Fairly easy cleanup.

Weber Smokey Mountain 18"

I currently a Weber kettle and a Weber Genesis but I needed something for a lower temp extended cook. The Smokey Mountain is perfect for that as it holds temps in that 200-275 range that I use for smoking meats. Have cooked pork shoulder, ribs and standing rib roast so far with great results.

Almost perfect

After much researching i chose this as my first smoker. Its 4 out of 5 stars, it has a lot of value but some shortcomings. Out of the box it's pretty much ready to smoke but there's a few details that would be nice. A seal kit helps a lot with smoke loss and temp regulation. And there is no place to set the lid so make sure you have some cardboard or a towel when cooking. Other then that get some levers for the vent wheels and a temp probe.

Great smoker

I purchased this to smoke a turkey for thanksgiving and it came out awesome. Since then I used it 3 other times to smoke salmon, chicken and pork. I'm still playing with the cooking time, but I love the size, large access door, and the vents that allows me to keep a very steady heat flow

Good product, but company needs work.

Smoker is heavy (good thing) and seems to have quality materials. Since it is heavy, side handles would have been nice. Also would have liked the bottom grate to be higher off the water pan. Biggest issue is with the company itself. My smoker had been sitting on a shelf for two years before I bought it new. When I went to register it the system would not let me do it since it was beyond the warranty period. It took a lot of hoop jumping to prove I bought it new, two years after it was manufactured.

Response from BBQGuys

Your feedback is very important to us. We greatly appreciate your suggestion regarding the side handles and the bottom grate be farther from the water pan. We will be sure to share this with our team for consideration. Regarding the registration we do require a proof of purchase for warranty purposes. Our team is always happy to help if you need any further assistance. Thanks for being a Weber fan!

Expert Review

The Skinny:

  • Available in three sizes
  • Separate cooking areas for versatility
  • Can smoke a full-sized turkey
  • Includes a protective cover

Things We Love:

Weber revolutionized the grill game in 1952 with the invention of the charcoal kettle, and it hasn’t stopped innovating since. The company eventually tried its hand at slow-cooking a thing or two, resulting in a line of smokers as sleek as they are effective. After years of refining, Weber now offers its Smokey Mountain Cookers in three distinct sizes that fit the BBQ habits of just about anyone. Whether you like to make your backyard smoking central or grill on the go, there’s a Weber Smokey Mountain model for you.

Different Size Options to Fit Your Needs:

Heavy-duty smokers should take a hard look at the 22-inch Weber Smokey Mountain Cooker, which offers 726 square inches of cooking area for when you host the family BBQ. You can trust the 18-inch model to handle standard workloads, while the 14-inch Smokey Mountain Cooker is small enough to come along for the ride on your next outdoor adventure. But that’s where the differences between these charcoal smokers end.

Exceptional Features from Weber:

No matter the size, each Weber Smokey Mountain unit can cook a full-sized turkey and comes with great features designed to enhance your smoking experience. They have two separate, steel-plated cooking grates that allow you to satisfy your guests by smoking multiple foods at once, along with a Weber water smoker to add moisture. Premium-grade, steel-coated porcelain enamel is used to build both the inside and outside of these vertical smokers, which receive added durability thanks to their rust-resistant aluminum fuel doors. Even with this sturdy construction, you should still take advantage of the included cover to shield your smoker from the elements.

Oh, and did we mention that Weber Smokey Mountain Cookers are easy to use? The fuel door lets you add charcoal without interrupting the cooking process, and temperature adjustment is simple with Weber’s airflow vents. Straightforward smoking, just the way we like it!

Things to Consider:

Though these Weber smokers get the job done when it comes to cooking meats, they don’t include all the bells and whistles typically found in the pricier smokers on the market today. You can, however, use Smokey Mountain Cookers like a traditional grill. Feel free to call our BBQ experts at 1-877-743-2269 if you have any more questions about Weber smokers!

When will my item arrive?

Once shipped, items usually arrive within 3-5 business days. While UPS and FedEx are our carriers for smaller items, be aware that larger items and orders are shipped via freight. The freight process is a bit more complicated than what we've all come to expect for small parcels, so it's important that you're prepared and understand what's required of you well before delivery day.

  • Most freight products ship on a pallet
  • Some carriers will call to schedule a delivery window, while others will deliver the shipment to a reasonably accessible location closest to your residence (their goal is to deliver as near a garage door as they can).
  • We'll specify which process you can expect in your shipping confirmation email.

For carriers that schedule delivery appointments:

Carriers that schedule delivery appointments require you to be home for delivery and provide your signature. The delivery is made with a semi-truck with lift gate services, and the shipment is dropped off at the curb. If you authorize the shipping company to leave the delivery without a signature, BBQGuys can't be held responsible for damages that occur during delivery. As complicated as this process may seem, we've only scratched the surface here — please review our detailed guide to freight delivery so there are no surprises when a freight shipment heads your way.

For carriers that deliver without an appointment:

Carriers that deliver without an appointment don't require you to be home or set up a delivery window, and you aren't required to sign for the pallet(s). Instead of scheduling an appointment, arranging your schedule to be home for the delivery, and signing to confirm receipt, you can sit back and let your items come to you. If you're home at the time of the drop-off, you can request the driver place your delivery in the garage; if you're out of the house, the driver will leave it near the garage or doorstep.
