Grill Center

We have only used a the grill few times, but seems great. It came in two boxes with dozens of pieces, but the directions were illustrated well and two of us put it together in a couple hours. The lights on the handle, and the propane monitoring sensors are bonuses. We have not tried out the side burner yet. This is a very pricey item, Weber does have a great reputation so I'm hoping this grill lasts as long as the Vermont Castings that this is replacing, (18 years).

Meh

A bit flimsy for as expensive a grill as it is. Stainless expands and contracrs making noises as tempersture changes. Doors and hardware of grill center is all flimsy. I kind of expected a solid feel and its not that.

good looking, great burners and features

We have just had the grill for a month, so these comments are at an very early stage. This grill is great looking and has great functionality. I've not tried the rotisserie yet, but I love the sear station. The burners start very easily and there are separate controls for each of the 6 main burners plus controls for the 3rd burner of the "sear station", the ceramic rotisserie browning burner, and the smoker chip burner. There are two controls for the side burner (outer and inner ring). The side burner is very large and should provide plenty of heating capacity. Each burner has its own starter and makes it very easy to control all 9 of the burners individually. Of course, the side burner also has its own controls and starter. I like how they designed the controls for the ceramic rotisserie burner, the 3rd sear station burner, and the smoker chip burner with smaller knobs so that it's easy to differentiate them from the regular grill burners. The starter for each of the 6 main burners and 3 auxiliary burners is automatic -- the starter is actuated as you turn the knob to turn the burner on. I highly recommend getting the two-sided griddle which fits exactly over two of the burners at either end. This griddle is good for fish, veggies, and other foods that you want to keep from breaking off and dropping through the normal grates. We've tried the griddle and really like it. We plan to keep it mostly in place because there is PLENTY of regular grilling space with the other four burners. Just be aware, because the griddle is porcelain coated IRON, it's very heavy. We really like the covered storage which is very well ventilated in the rear. The storage space is great for storing utensils, cleaning tools, etc. I would not recommend the storage for storing anything made of paper since it can get rather hot. The large temperature gauge on the lid of the grill is easy to read and situated right in the top center unlike our previous Weber grill where it was on the bottom right (Genesis). So far, the only negative that we have is that there is no full cover available. We like the top cover that is available which is extremely easy to take on an off and has velcro straps to secure it in case of windy conditions. It would be nice to have a full-size cover to use during the winter to protect the bottom part of the grill, but there is none available (at least from Weber). We look forward to many years of grilling with our new Weber Summit Grill Center.

If only it had been complete!

The grill works as expected, but it came with the wrong door, and it has been over a month waiting for it to be swapped and I stalled. It is a shame for such an expensive piece of equipment.

A truly great grill.

Great Grill! The Sear burner and the IR burner work exceptionally well. My only complaint is that the rotisserie motor is a little underpowered. It had a hard time rotating two 4 lb chickens. It arrived very well packaged (lots of cardboard) and it took a very long time to unpack and assemble.

Great grill…. Love the additional storage and workspace. If you can afford it, well worth the price. The double ring burner really makes a difference. Owned the standard 670 Summit for 15 years. Time for a new one.

Very well made and engineered grill

Have used this grill several times now for multiple purposes. First off very well made and temperature control is a snap. Rotisserie works like a charm with infrared burner a key asset. Skin gets perfect with that. Sear station does get hot enough to properly sear your proteins. However the smoker box does take at a minimum 10 minutes to start getting smoke so timing is a bit tricky if you're searing then indirect cooking with a slight smoke. I haven't tried actually smoking proteins yet but I do have to say it is very easy to maintain a 225 degree cook. I'm still partial to my kettle for certain applications but overall this grill is very well made and burner controls are very easy to maintain. Indirect cooking is easy as you have quite a large space to cook in.

Second Weber in 23 years

My main reason for purchasing the Summit grill center was that my last Weber lasted 23 years...in thar time I replaced the flavoriser bars twice, and the dome thermometer once. It was hands down the best grill I had ever owned. So far, on my new Summit, I have done St. Louis style and baby back ribs, steaks, burgers, and teriyaki chicken. It is scheduled for a major workout tomorrow (4th of July) and I'm sure it will perform flawlessly again. Haven't tried the griddle or the smoker yet, but the pop-up rotisserie and the rotating rib-racks have gotten some use. This Weber went together easily and was perfect right out of the boxes/pallet...it weighs over 400 pounds, so I built a base on wheels to be able to move it easily for cleaning ehind/under it. Really looking forward to a few decades worth of use out of my second Weber!

Expert Review

The Skinny:

  • Weber's top-of-the-line gas grill
  • Control knob lighting
  • Snap-Jet ignition for reliable startup
  • 9mm stainless steel rod cooking grids
  • Heavy duty stainless steel

Things We Love:

Weber Summit Gas Grills are Weber's top-of-the-line gas grill. The Summit's cooking system (burners, flavorizer bars, and beefy cooking grids) are all stainless steel. Along with the durable cooking system, there are several convenient features not found on other Weber gas grills that separate the Summit as the best.

The Weber Summit includes an attached Grill Out handle light that automatically illuminates your grill for easy nighttime cooking. I also really love the reliable start up using the Snap-Jet ignition since each different burner has its own flame throwing ignition. Another feature that takes convenience to the next level is the LED propane tank scale, which lets you know exactly where you stand on fuel at all times.

For minimizing flare-ups, the Summit's Stainless Steel Flavorizer bars can be found directly above the burners. They shield the burners by catching drippings and turning them to smoke, adding flavor to your food. Weber pioneered the Flavorizer bar in 1984, and since then they've proven to do their job extremely well, which is why they're still preventing flare-ups on all Weber gas grills today!

All Summit freestanding and grill center models include a 12,000 BTU side burner, which comes in handy if you need to warm up a side dish or a sauce. Additionally, when the side burner's lid is shut, it sits flush against its surface, which adds even more shelving space to the grill cart. The Summit 470 and 670 models include three additional features; a 10,600 BTU rear burner and rotisserie kit, a 10,600 BTU searing station for that extra high heat when you need it, and a 6,800 BTU wood chip smoker box with a dedicated burner.

With over 50 years in business, Weber Grills customer service is as good as it gets. They have a 10 year warranty on the grill body and on the burners. They have reputable service and quickly handle any service or replacement part situations.

Things To Consider:

The burner housing and the rear of the grill, even on the stainless steel models, are constructed of porcelain-enameled steel which is not as durable as other all stainless steel grills in the price range.

You'll Like This Grill If:

You want Weber's top-of-the-line grill that's powered by an all stainless steel cooking system with practical features that make grilling a breeze.

Question:
Is electricity needed for this grill, especially the rotisserie? Was This Helpful?
Answers:

Hi, Deborah. Yes, the Weber Summit Grill Center will require electricity, especially for the rotisserie.

Asked by Deborah | Answered by Wesley

Yes you need electricity for the rotisserie.

Asked by Deborah | Answered by jen.schisler

Yes, you have to plug in the rotisserie motor. There is no batter option for that. The rest of the grill is stand-alone, operating on batteries.

Asked by Deborah | Answered by possumracing47

Just for the rotisserie. The grill needs propane or gas from a gas line

Asked by Deborah | Answered by gagnevada
Question:
Do you need 2 gas line to hook up the grill and side burners or can 1 gas line be used for both at same time? Can the side burner cook 2 pots/pans on there at same time? Was This Helpful?
Answers:

One gas line for both Can only use 1 pot/pan (a very large one!) at a time. But it does have 2 stages for cooking - a large ring and a small ring. So you can use various size pots or pans

Asked by Big D | Answered by gagnevada

Hello. The grill comes with all the necessary hookups to use the side burner. The side burner can be used with one pot or pan, and has plenty of room for large cookware.

Asked by Big D | Answered by Joey, BBQGuys Expert

1 20lb propane tank. There is a line splitter included.

Asked by Big D | Answered by lheft

Mine is propane with single hookup/tank, but I believe natural gas would be only one hookup as well. The side burner is a single unit with an inner ring and an outer ring. So only one pot/pan can go on there at a time.

Question:
What country was this grill manufactured in?Was This Helpful?

Hi John. Weber Summit grills are made in the US with globally sourced parts.

Question:
Can it have casters instead of legs ? Thanks TimWas This Helpful?
Answers:

Hi Timothy. The Grill Center only comes with legs, but the freestanding Summits and the Summits labeled "built-in" do come with casters.

Question:
Can the propane grill be converted to use natural gas?Was This Helpful?

Hi Carl. According to the manual, converting the grill will void the warranty.

When will my item arrive?

Once shipped, items usually arrive within 3-5 business days. While UPS and FedEx are our carriers for smaller items, be aware that larger items and orders are shipped via freight. The freight process is a bit more complicated than what we've all come to expect for small parcels, so it's important that you're prepared and understand what's required of you well before delivery day.

  • Most freight products ship on a pallet
  • Some carriers will call to schedule a delivery window, while others will deliver the shipment to a reasonably accessible location closest to your residence (their goal is to deliver as near a garage door as they can).
  • We'll specify which process you can expect in your shipping confirmation email.

For carriers that schedule delivery appointments:

Carriers that schedule delivery appointments require you to be home for delivery and provide your signature. The delivery is made with a semi-truck with lift gate services, and the shipment is dropped off at the curb. If you authorize the shipping company to leave the delivery without a signature, BBQGuys can't be held responsible for damages that occur during delivery. As complicated as this process may seem, we've only scratched the surface here — please review our detailed guide to freight delivery so there are no surprises when a freight shipment heads your way.

For carriers that deliver without an appointment:

Carriers that deliver without an appointment don't require you to be home or set up a delivery window, and you aren't required to sign for the pallet(s). Instead of scheduling an appointment, arranging your schedule to be home for the delivery, and signing to confirm receipt, you can sit back and let your items come to you. If you're home at the time of the drop-off, you can request the driver place your delivery in the garage; if you're out of the house, the driver will leave it near the garage or doorstep.
