They were not lying! This barely took five minutes to install if you read the directions first. Not sure why others complained but I suspect it comes down to MAKING SURE you know your model to ensure compatibility. Color coding and easy plug and play. Now my Texas has two temp probes. Win AND a Bonus! Love Traeger! Only thing missing is wifi!
I purchased new controllers for my (2) Traeger smokers. I have used both smokers with the new controllers and the temp swing in the smokers is definitely more than 15 degrees. I used my Lil Tex 22 yesterday on the smoke setting to smoke some salmon and had a temp swing from 158 to 195 very difficult to smoke fish with that kind of temp swing. My larger smoker (34) has the same issue. Not real satisfied with the quality and accuracy of these 'hot dog' controllers.
No where does the information tell you that on older (read ancient) Traegers you have to use a file to enlarge the opening. Traeger steel is tough so it took me awhile to enlarge it enough to mount the new controller. That being said I don't know how I survived with my original digital Controller. Last night I put on a three pound eye-of-the-round beef roast inserted on of the thermometer probes and sat back enjoyed our company with an occasional check on the controller.
I say One Step Up because smokin' with Traeger is already at its best. I love the probes on the Pro Controller which gives you better control for keeping the temperature in the ball park. The only con I had (And it's not really a con as it is an observation) is the replacement instructions.Getting the original panel out was not an easy task. There really has to be a better way Connecting the new panel electrically wasn't so bad but the remounting of the panel was a problem child from the word GO. Not having any tie wraps forced me to make a temporary fix so that I could try the new Pro Controller. After getting tie wraps and re-securing the wiring harness remounting the controller for the last time and giving my Traeger its fire up I am definitely back with my grill.
The digital pro is an improvement over the controller that came with the Traeger that I bought last fall. The old controller frequently held the temperature 50 degrees or more below the set point. The digital pro still undershoots the set point but now it is more like 20 degrees low. It seems the tuning for these controls is not as aggressive as it could be. I see new grills in the stores with the digital pro. I wish it had been on the grill when I bought it. It would have been worth the extra $50.
We had to go without our pellet grill for 3 months. Finally got around to ordering new controller and showed up quick. Installed in 10 minutes and works great. Loving the new controller and 2 meat probe thermometers. Won't go without it again.
It works great but the white probe did not work so we are waiting for the replacement to see if we can do two meats at a time black probe worked great on the briskets we have cooked
Installed the Pro Digital controller on my older Lil Tex and performs like I have a new grill now. Simple 10 minute install. My wife even applauded my mechanical effort knowing my limited skills in this area. Thanks Traeger.
I was impressed from the very first time I used the new controller. My last two controllers would run the temperature to well over 300 degrees when it first started. Then it would take several cycles for the temperature to drop to smoking range. The new controller starts gently and hits smoking range without the initial high temperature. And then it stays there for the rest of the smoke. When it is turned up to cooking temperature it gradually approaches the set temperature instead of blasting past it and then gradually cooling down. It is indeed impressive. The two temperature probes are a good idea when one is cooking something like a turkey which has two separate temperature requirements. The only downside to the new controller that I've found is the implementation of the temperature probes. The display will only show the probe temperature for a few seconds and then goes back to the cooking temperature. It would be very helpful being able to monitor the internal food temperature over a period of time without having to constantly push the button. Overall the new controller is worth the money just for its ability to handle the cooking temperature. That alone is awesome. Having the temperature probes is a major plus if one doesn't have a stand alone remote probe. It gets a five rating just for the ability to control the cooking. Make the probe temperatures static and it gets a five plus rating.

When will my item arrive?
Once shipped, items usually arrive within 3-5 business days. While UPS and FedEx are our carriers for smaller items, be aware that larger items and orders are shipped via freight. The freight process is a bit more complicated than what we've all come to expect for small parcels, so it's important that you're prepared and understand what's required of you well before delivery day.
- Most freight products ship on a pallet
- Some carriers will call to schedule a delivery window, while others will deliver the shipment to a reasonably accessible location closest to your residence (their goal is to deliver as near a garage door as they can).
- We'll specify which process you can expect in your shipping confirmation email.
For carriers that schedule delivery appointments:
Carriers that schedule delivery appointments require you to be home for delivery and provide your signature. The delivery is made with a semi-truck with lift gate services, and the shipment is dropped off at the curb. If you authorize the shipping company to leave the delivery without a signature, BBQGuys can't be held responsible for damages that occur during delivery. As complicated as this process may seem, we've only scratched the surface here — please review our detailed guide to freight delivery so there are no surprises when a freight shipment heads your way.
For carriers that deliver without an appointment:
Carriers that deliver without an appointment don't require you to be home or set up a delivery window, and you aren't required to sign for the pallet(s). Instead of scheduling an appointment, arranging your schedule to be home for the delivery, and signing to confirm receipt, you can sit back and let your items come to you. If you're home at the time of the drop-off, you can request the driver place your delivery in the garage; if you're out of the house, the driver will leave it near the garage or doorstep.
