Great Grill with mediocre rotisserie

I have had my S-470 for about a year and love the even heating and especially the smoker and sear station, which I feared would be a "gimmick" but have turned out to be two features I use all the time. The smoker in particular provides just enough heat and smoke to make the best pulled pork ever! The one thing about this grill that is substandard is the rotisserie element, the motor is held to the grill using cheap, thin stainless steel, so if you grill a bird larger than about 12 pounds, the rod can come off as the motor flexes during the rotation. I have had to develop a fix using clamps to hold the rod onto the grill motor. When you pay almost $2K for a grill, you don't expect to have to "McGiver" some sort of fix to overcome poor design. But the rest of the grill system works great.

I love this grill!

I've had my Summit 4-series for 13 years. It is a member of my family. I grill on it year round in Colorado. One of my favorite things about this grill vs others is that it has really even heating across the grates. I also really like the infrared burner which I use for melting, toasting, crisping, rotisserie. Lastly, I like that it's made in the USA.

Control knob lights

I purchased by Weber Summit S-470 a few months at and have used it three times now. Every time I've used it it's been daylight and I have not used the control knob lights. However, after I turn the gas off and come inside the control knob lights come on automatically after an hour or so. I go out and push the black button on the left and turn the lights out and then an hour or two later the lights come back on. I turned them off again before going to bed and when I get up the next morning the lights are on again. So, what am I doing wrong in turning the lights off that I never turned on in the first place.

Great support

I have owned this grill for some time. The support for warranty items is the best I have ever come across. My grill is near a pool in the back yard and had some wear. The online method for selecting the parts and customer service I received from John was immediate.

Best Grill I Have Ever Owned!

I just bought another Weber 470 grill but this time for propane instead of natural gas because I had moved to an area without natural gas. There was no doubt in m mind with regard to buying another Weber grill. The quality is there and parts should you need to replace anything such as grill grids flavor bars are readily available. Absolutely love the searing burners for perfect grill marks on my steaks and pork chops. The smoker box is awesome especially with its own burner and the rotisserie works great for grilling chickens and pork loins. Great grill - will never own any other.

I love this grill.

This grill has great performance for roasts and steaks. I also use the rotisserie frequently. In Northern California, we have a wet and relatively cold winter. I have had to leave it out in the elements without the cover because rats were finding the covered grill a comfortable place to build a nest. I have had no issues with corrosion. I did have a friend crank on the burner control knob without pressing it in resulting in the plastic breaking. I think that might be the only piece of plastic on the entire fabulous grill. I am now on this website looking for a replacement burner control knob.

High End Item, regardless of the mainstream name

Was somewhat skeptical of the high end status of this grill, since Weber is known as a mainstream line. Shopped / researched everything from Viking, Blaze, Saber, Traeger, Lynx, etc. Found that the Weber seemed to have some of the best features for the price. . For a little back story, I grill frequently. 2-4 times a week, in the summer, and 1-2 times a week (minimum) in the winter. Probably ~120 uses, annually. Have gone through multiple Char Broil "professional" (big box store) grills over the last 2 decades. You get lots of grilling space, but little quality (components rust quickly, grill surfaces degrade quickly, etc.). Really wanted to find the "last grill I will ever need". I don't have time to research this sort of purchase, every 3 to 5 years. . So, after much research, I found the S-470, with built in rotisserie, to be a good fit. One measurement that is rarely included in the "stats sheet" is the rotisserie height. I had to call/e-mail several manufacturers for this measurement, as part of my research. Having good rotisserie clearance is an absolute must, if you work with pork shoulders or larger cuts of meat. The S-470 was the best I could find (at about 9 inches above the burners). All of the others were a little lower, or I couldn't get any measurements. . After about 8 months of very active use, the Weber has turned out to be a very good purchase. Not as much cook surface as I would like, but the grill is very well built, with very few "hot spots", and all of the features I could want. Materials are solid. The sear burner works perfectly. The thermometer is accurate. Relatively easy to clean. Right now, my only complaint is the size of the cook surface, but that comes with price. The rotisserie has worked out very well, for larger pieces of meat. The smoker function (with it's dedicated burner) takes a little practice to get used to, but it functions as needed (once you learn the times & burner settings). Solid unit, all around

Poor quality

Called for parts today for my grill that is under a covered outdoor patio with a grill cover and after 3 years items are showing signs of rust and plastic knobs have also already been replaced.

Weber Summit S-470 Gas Grill

My wife bought me the Weber S-470 gas grill 2 years ago for my Birthday. I had a Weber gas grill for 18 years prior and it was the best. Really did not have to do any thing and it work like a tank. My S-470 stainless steel grill is failing. The trim around the knobs is pealing and cracking. 4 of the igniters are not working and been cleaned several times but now they are all rusted and fell out, So I need to use a lighter to get the grill light. Last is the gas meter doesn't work. If I press the button to see how much gas is left 3 lights light up, Full, Half way and then . empty. I use the grill a couple times a week and also keep the grill covered when I'm not using it. My other weber that I had for 18 years I never covered and only had to do very little maintenance for the upkeep.

Poor quality

I am 66 years old and have been a Webber fan for years, but this new grill is the worst. The stainless is of low quality and even while covered the rust is evident. The gas knobs are poorly manufactured as well. The markings have worn off after very little use. The stops on the control valves do not give you the feel of when the grill is securely shut off and I have accidentally wasted a few tanks of gas by not securely shutting off the grill. Now I do know that the securest way to close down the grill is to close the propane but sometimes it doesn't get done. I am very disappointed in Webber for the first time in 30 years.

Expert Review

The Skinny:

  • Weber's top-of-the-line gas grill
  • Control knob lighting
  • Snap-Jet ignition for reliable startup
  • 9mm stainless steel rod cooking grids
  • Heavy duty stainless steel

Things We Love:

Weber Summit Gas Grills are Weber's top-of-the-line gas grill. The Summit's cooking system (burners, flavorizer bars, and beefy cooking grids) are all stainless steel. Along with the durable cooking system, there are several convenient features not found on other Weber gas grills that separate the Summit as the best.

The Weber Summit includes an attached Grill Out handle light that automatically illuminates your grill for easy nighttime cooking. I also really love the reliable start up using the Snap-Jet ignition since each different burner has its own flame throwing ignition. Another feature that takes convenience to the next level is the LED propane tank scale, which lets you know exactly where you stand on fuel at all times.

For minimizing flare-ups, the Summit's Stainless Steel Flavorizer bars can be found directly above the burners. They shield the burners by catching drippings and turning them to smoke, adding flavor to your food. Weber pioneered the Flavorizer bar in 1984, and since then they've proven to do their job extremely well, which is why they're still preventing flare-ups on all Weber gas grills today!

All Summit freestanding and grill center models include a 12,000 BTU side burner, which comes in handy if you need to warm up a side dish or a sauce. Additionally, when the side burner's lid is shut, it sits flush against its surface, which adds even more shelving space to the grill cart. The Summit 470 and 670 models include three additional features; a 10,600 BTU rear burner and rotisserie kit, a 10,600 BTU searing station for that extra high heat when you need it, and a 6,800 BTU wood chip smoker box with a dedicated burner.

With over 50 years in business, Weber Grills customer service is as good as it gets. They have a 10 year warranty on the grill body and on the burners. They have reputable service and quickly handle any service or replacement part situations.

Things To Consider:

The burner housing and the rear of the grill, even on the stainless steel models, are constructed of porcelain-enameled steel which is not as durable as other all stainless steel grills in the price range.

You'll Like This Grill If:

You want Weber's top-of-the-line grill that's powered by an all stainless steel cooking system with practical features that make grilling a breeze.

When will my item arrive?

Once shipped, items usually arrive within 3-5 business days. While UPS and FedEx are our carriers for smaller items, be aware that larger items and orders are shipped via freight. The freight process is a bit more complicated than what we've all come to expect for small parcels, so it's important that you're prepared and understand what's required of you well before delivery day.

  • Most freight products ship on a pallet
  • Some carriers will call to schedule a delivery window, while others will deliver the shipment to a reasonably accessible location closest to your residence (their goal is to deliver as near a garage door as they can).
  • We'll specify which process you can expect in your shipping confirmation email.

For carriers that schedule delivery appointments:

Carriers that schedule delivery appointments require you to be home for delivery and provide your signature. The delivery is made with a semi-truck with lift gate services, and the shipment is dropped off at the curb. If you authorize the shipping company to leave the delivery without a signature, BBQGuys can't be held responsible for damages that occur during delivery. As complicated as this process may seem, we've only scratched the surface here — please review our detailed guide to freight delivery so there are no surprises when a freight shipment heads your way.

For carriers that deliver without an appointment:

Carriers that deliver without an appointment don't require you to be home or set up a delivery window, and you aren't required to sign for the pallet(s). Instead of scheduling an appointment, arranging your schedule to be home for the delivery, and signing to confirm receipt, you can sit back and let your items come to you. If you're home at the time of the drop-off, you can request the driver place your delivery in the garage; if you're out of the house, the driver will leave it near the garage or doorstep.
