BBQGuys USA Premium Cuts FAQ

No, you aren’t reading our website wrong — we now have our own meat-delivery service! But if you’ve come to know us as the go-to resource for all things grilling and outdoor living, then you probably have some questions about how all this works. We’ve set aside this page to address topics like shipping logistics, the quality of our meat offerings, steak aging and thickness, and more. There’s even a section about what sets our products apart from what you can find at the grocery store!

If you have a question about BBQGuys USA Premium Cuts that isn’t listed here, don’t hesitate to reach out to our experts at 1-877-743-2269. After they extend a “Nice to meat you,” you’ll get down to talking turkey. (Or beef, or chicken, or pork…)

How should you thaw frozen meat?

The best and safest method for thawing frozen meat is to leave it in the fridge for roughly 24–48 hours prior to cooking. Larger items like brisket or turkey may take an additional 24 hours or slightly longer to fully thaw. We recommend thawing meat in its original vacuum packaging (which should be removed only immediately prior to cooking), and setting it on a plate to retain any moisture that runs during thawing.

Is frozen meat better than fresh meat?

Freezing is a state of suspension, so there’s no decline in quality — especially not when meat is frozen at the peak of tenderness like ours is. Our cuts are individually vacuum-packaged and flash-frozen in a -20°F freezer until the day of shipment, at which point they’re packaged with dry ice to keep your meats in the proper temperature zone during transit.

How does the meat stay frozen while in transit to me?

We package all our meat with dry ice inside the highest-quality Styrofoam, which acts as an insulator to keep the product at the appropriate temperature. While your meat may not be completely frozen when it arrives, it should still be refrigerator-cold — that is, below 40°F as measured by a food thermometer. Refrigerator-cold meat is safe to eat or refreeze for later consumption; when left in the vacuum-sealed packaging, it can stay thawed in the fridge for 3 days prior to cooking or refreezing.

Does the dry ice stay frozen until the shipment arrives?

It’s likely that the dry ice will dissipate during transit, though you might see a bit remaining when you open the packaging. Either way, the bag containing the dry ice will still be present inside the Styrofoam cooler, so you’ll know dry ice was used during shipping.

What do I do with the dry ice after I receive my order?

If there’s still some dry ice left in the packaging, it’s important to wear gloves when handling and never allow it to touch your bare skin. We recommend leaving the dry ice outside in the Styrofoam container so it can fully dissipate. Once the dry ice is gone, simply discard the packaging in the trash.

Is BBQGuys USA Premium Cuts meat (ground beef/burgers) irradiated?

No, our meats aren’t irradiated.

Is meat returnable?

No, we don’t accept returns or refunds for our meat products. That being said, we take every precaution to ensure your shipment arrives frozen or at least refrigerator-cold. If you have any concerns about the integrity or safety of the meat product delivered to you, please call us at 1-877-743-2269 and we’ll do everything we can to address the situation.

Is your beef grass-fed?

All our beef is grass-fed and grain-finished, which heavily contributes to flavor.

Are your chickens and turkeys free-range?

Our chickens are all free-range, pasture-raised, heirloom birds. Our turkeys aren’t free-range, but they’re thoughtfully raised with plenty of room to roam, a 100% vegetarian diet that encourages slow and natural growth, and no hormones or antibiotics. The Global Animal Partnership has certified our chicken with a highly sought-after Step 4 rating in its 5-Step® Animal Welfare Program, while our turkey holds a minimum Step 1 rating.

Is your seafood wild-caught?

Yes, all our seafood is wild-caught using strict, sustainable methods.

Do you have heritage pork?

Boy, do we! We offer Berkshire Kurobuta pork — known as “the Wagyu of pork.” (Yes, it’s that good.)

Where does your meat ship from?

Our meat products are aged, cut, packaged, and shipped from our facility in Houston, Texas. Doing everything under one roof ensures top-notch quality control and a better cut of meat on your table.

How long will my steaks last in the freezer?

Steaks can be stored in the freezer for up to 1 year. (But do you really have the self-restraint for that?)

I thawed my meat already; can I refreeze it?

Yes, you can refreeze thawed meat, but only one time. Repeatedly thawing and refreezing meat will draw out moisture from deeper and deeper within the meat, drastically altering its quality and integrity.

How is BBQGuys USA Premium Cuts meat different from what I can get in my grocery store?

Every step of our process ensures that we provide a premium product that can’t be found in the vast majority of stores. For starters, we source only the top percentage of meat, including heirloom chicken, Kurobuta pork, and Wagyu, Prime, and Top-Choice beef. Expert butchers then hand-select only the best cuts with optimal marbling under strict specifications — center-cut filets and strips, for example — in BBQGuys-sized portions to ensure every product is as delicious as it is filling. And unlike many retail outlets, we allow our steak to age for a full 28 days to promote maximum tenderness and flavor development. Simply put, you never know the quality of what you’re getting from behind the counter at a grocery store!

Where does BBQGuys USA Premium Cuts meat come from?

Every BBQGuys USA Premium Cuts meat product comes from animals born, raised, and harvested in the USA. It’s in the name, after all!

Does USA Premium Cuts meat contain antibiotics?

Our pork and poultry are never treated with antibiotics. Though our beef doesn’t come from antibiotic-free cattle, the USDA requires all such cattle to undergo a strict withdrawal period so any antibiotic residue has time to exit the animal’s system.

Does USA Premium Cuts meat contain growth hormones?

Our pork and poultry products are hormone-free. Our beef is treated with some growth hormones, but there is a mandated withdrawal period in place before harvesting to ensure a safe and extremely minimal concentration of hormones within the meat.

Is USA Premium Cuts meat humanely raised?

All our pork and poultry are humanely raised under Global Animal Partnership certifications for animal welfare. Our chicken has a Step 4 rating, while our turkey and pork have a minimum Step 1 certification. For beef, on the other hand, the term “humanely” is broadly and vaguely defined within the industry. That being said, we guarantee our beef is sourced only from USDA-regulated facilities that are serious about animal welfare and forward-thinking practices.

Is USA Premium Cuts meat certified organic?

No, our meat products aren’t certified organic.

Can I send USA Premium Cuts meat as a gift?

Yes, you sure can! We don’t have a special gift-wrapping option at this time, but all you need to do is enter the recipient’s address in the shipping information and we’ll make sure it gets there.

Does your meat have to be grilled, or can it be cooked indoors?

It can be cooked outdoors or indoors, but… well, we’re called BBQGuys. You can probably guess what our preferred cooking method is!

Does somebody need to be at home to accept the meat delivery?

Technically, no; however, we strongly recommend it. Meat that sits on the doorstep or in the garage for hours on end is at a high risk of spoiling, which is why someone should be available to transfer your package to the fridge or freezer immediately upon delivery. Even if this means having your package shipped somewhere other than your home address, it’s worth ensuring your food will remain in the safe temperature zone. We’re not responsible for shipments delivered to incorrectly provided addresses, nor are we responsible for shipments that spoil because the recipient wasn’t able to retrieve the package at the time of delivery.

Nobody is ever home during the day. Can I get my meat order shipped to my office?

Yes, but we recommend this only for orders that ship at the beginning of a week. FedEx doesn’t deliver to office addresses on weekends, and you definitely don’t want your order sitting in a delivery warehouse for 2 days! See the table below for details on when your order will ship based on the date and time of order placement (all times CT).

Order Placement (by 12 p.m.) Order Shipped By:
Monday 12 p.m. to Wednesday 12 p.m. Friday
Wednesday 12 p.m. to Friday 12 p.m. Monday
Friday 12 p.m. to Monday 12 p.m. Tuesday

Can I get overnight shipping?

No, we don’t currently offer overnight shipping.

What if my order arrives partially thawed? Is it still safe to eat?

Absolutely, but you should immediately transfer it to the refrigerator or freezer to keep it in the “refrigerator-cold” temperature range below 40°F. If you plan to consume the meat within 5 days, it’s acceptable to move it to the fridge. If you plan to cook it at a later date, you can immediately store it in the freezer with no impact on quality.

Is there a discount for a "freezer-filler" order?

We plan to periodically offer discounts and free shipping for certain products and/or larger orders, so keep an eye on our website and email communications for such promotions.
