Kansas City Brisket Burnt Ends Sandwich by Brad Prose
Celebrate game day with a classic regional staple from Brad Prose by piling brisket onto these KC Burnt End Sandwiches. Slow smoked brisket forms a dark, crusty bark before being slowly braised and glazed with delicious red barbecue sauce. Each gem is tasty on it’s own, but piled high on a toasted bun is the best way to transport them to your mouth!

- Trim the brisket point of any loose fat or silverskin. Season all sides generously with the BBQGuys x Spiceology Kansas Rub. Allow the brisket to rest at room temperature and heat up your smoker to 250°F.
- Place the brisket in the smoker and allow it to cook undisturbed for about 3 hours. Check on it to make sure it has a great color, the bark should be darker and firm.
- Once the temperature is around 165°F, remove it and place it on a sheet of heavy duty foil. Pour on the beef broth and wrap it up tight. Return to the smoker and turn up the heat to 300°F. Use your temperature probe to monitor the brisket.
- After about 90 minutes, the brisket will reach about 195-200°F. Check the thickest parts to make sure it’s very tender.
- Remove the brisket and slice into cubes. Add the cubes to a sheet pan or foil pan, and pour in the beef juices that were left over. Add in the barbecue sauce and mix everything gently until the brisket is coated. Set the pan back in the smoker for about 25-35 minutes until the sauce is tacky on the outside.
- Toast the buns and pile on the brisket burnt ends. They are traditionally served with pickles or onions on the side.
Is an Outdoor Kitchen a Good Investment?
Yes. What, you want more? Then imagine yourself in an impeccable outdoor BBQ kitchen, designed exactly to your needs. You rotate the juiciest, choicest cuts from your local butcher — ever since you invited him over for that rousing day of sports, stouts, and smoked skewers, he’s been quietly stashing the good stuff aside for you — on those piping-hot grill grates. Just listen to that sizzle. As you lower the lid, perhaps the spouse is curled up with a paperback on the luxury patio furniture, or the kids are topping their own pizzas by your side. Or maybe you’ve invited the butcher back over, and he’s relaxing in the hot tub. Is an outdoor kitchen a good investment? Probably not, unless you enjoy enjoying things. But if you need further convincing, there are a whole pack of reasons to build one. And… Oh wow, here they are! Wasn’t that fast?
5 Reasons to Own an Outdoor Kitchen
Outdoor Kitchens Expand Household Living Space
Empty backyards are great. You know what’s even greater? That — but with a complete entertainment station, ready to help you host guests at the most abrupt pivots imaginable. Plus, who doesn’t need a break from the folks sometimes? Build an outdoor kitchen, and you’re building your own private getaway.
Outdoor Kitchens Widen Private Hosting Opportunities
Think of all the special occasions you’ll host with an outdoor kitchen. Evening socials and soirees are an excellent excuse to have over coworkers or old friends. Get the squad together for a spectacular game day blowout. Forget awkwardly standing around, drink in hand — that’s the old you. Build an outdoor kitchen. Discover the new you.
Outdoor Kitchens Can Lower Everyday Utility Bills
Guess what makes the indoors hotter? Running stoves and ovens. Large kitchen appliances heat the ambient temperature, taxing your poor air conditioning… and then there’s all that lighting! Bring the cooking outside: you’ll keep the thermostat happy, your clean surfaces happy, and — bonus! — it may be cheaper than driving to a restaurant and opening the wallet.
Outdoor Kitchens Encourage More Time Outside
Too much couch time? Kids glued to the tablet? Not anymore! Cook those meals outdoors for plenty of health benefits: we’re talking fresh air, fresh sunshine, and an infrared booster shot of Vitamin D. Doctors agree: sunlight is awesome sometimes. Plus, it’s more opportunity to enjoy the landscaping — while keeping those foul smells and splatters outside!
Outdoor Kitchens Increase House Resale Value
Year after year, outdoor kitchens edge closer toward the “dealbreaker” column of the new homeowner’s checklist. And why not? They offer plenty of perks. Depending on local laws, your kitchen can even add to your home’s square footage. Build it now, enjoy it now, sell it later! Or, buy portable grill islands and take them with you, like a stone-cold bandit.
What To Ask When Building an Outdoor Kitchen
What Should My Outdoor Kitchen Budget Be?
Unfortunately, outdoor kitchens cost money. Figuring out the budget depends a lot on how it’ll be built. Going DIY? Hiring a crew of loose-cannon contractors who don’t play by the rules? (Please don’t — hire regular, licensed contractors.) Read further by checking out How Much Should an Outdoor Kitchen Cost?
How Will I Be Using My Outdoor Kitchen?
Give some thought to what you plan to do with that outdoor kitchen. Hosting larger parties, like family reunions? Entertaining that attractive new friend that you met at the bar? Building your doomsday bunker and think you’ll want steak sometimes? These answers will help determine your project’s scope.
How Do I Choose an Outdoor Kitchen Aesthetic?
Whether you want the pastoral atmosphere of the Mediterranean cottage or the exotic passion of a Cuban cabana, an outdoor kitchen is a great opportunity to let your style shine. Need some inspiration? Feel free to steal some from our Outdoor Kitchen Ideas page. Shhh. We won’t tell anybody.
How Often Will I Use My Outdoor Kitchen?
Plan to entertain often? How many guests do you expect to host on average? Are you aiming for the immediate family — or are you plotting to get on that HOA board by whatever means necessary? These basic questions should be answered as you begin planning your Outdoor Kitchen.
Furthermore, keeping resale in mind is great when it comes to the design phase — after all, it’s an investment in more than just your personal satisfaction! In many cases, an outdoor kitchen is likely to boost your property’s value; however, the sheer breadth of factors involved (such as climate, curb appeal, location, and much more) stop us from speaking with authority on your exact ROI. With that said, the final fit, form, and function of your outdoor kitchen should remain high considerations. Keep that in mind when deciding who you want to build your new outdoor living space.
How to Make Your Outdoor Kitchen Last Year-Round
Fall Back on a Fire Pit
Remember how awesome bonfires are? They’re a great answer to crisp, cool Autumn weather — perfect for toasting the toes, gooey molten s’mores, and curling up with a loved one. As another cold front settles in and the leaves flash their seasonal best, consider squeezing in the fiery warmth of a fire pit. They really offer fantastic customization for just about any aesthetic and, for those of you who really love building neat stuff with your bare hands, plenty of opportunity for DIY to be proud of.
Patio Heaters Kill the Chill
Long nights and frosty air don’t mean it’s time to rustle indoors. Invest in a patio heater — they get glowing reviews! When you can bathe your entire outdoor kitchen in calm infrared heat, there’s no need to abandon your hard-earned investment. Anxious that it’ll stick out like a sore thumb? Don’t be! Our selection includes an assortment of freestanding designs, mounting styles, and fuel types for any lifestyle, meant to blend seamlessly into the background!
Raise the Bar With Spirited Refreshment
Why stop at an outdoor kitchen when you can go double-or-nothing for a home bar? What, too much? Here’s our “counter” argument: bars are always in season. Enjoy more hosting opportunities, trading out bar tabs for top-shelf bottles, and showing off some sweet bartending moves. We bet you can even do that wicked cool stainless cup catch behind your back (you know the one). Luckily, we carry bar centers, kitchen sinks and more — everything but liquor! Afraid you’re on your own for that one, pal.
Your Outdoor Kitchen Isn’t Just for Summer
As Winter descends, think outside the box. Picture this: flirtatious bubbles waft against your legs as you clink a soothing drink with your mi amor. Far above, the twinkling stars offer ambience (even better, it’s free). Now we’re kicking this entertainment into maximum overdrive — because you decided to get a hot tub installed. They offer year-round hosting value and, hey: the colder it gets, the better the payoff. You know who didn’t have a hot tub? The dinosaurs. And look what happened to them.
Outdoor Kitchen Extras
Outdoor Kitchen Furniture
Whether you’re whipping up an outdoor kitchen bistro or one-upping your watering hole with the bar of your wildest dreams, nothing whispers “please enjoy my kitchen longer” like premium relaxation options. We offer luxury patio furniture for all needs — and we mean it! Turn open patio into excellent seating with outdoor bar height tables (or counter-height bar stools at the counter). Deep seating conversational sets break out the R&R for quiet reading, in-depth chatting, or merciless fantasy football gloating.
Put a premium outdoor television in any seating area, and you’ll make it a cheering area. These bad boys are built rugged and weatherproofed to fend off the rain, the sleet, and those baking sunrays. Better yet, our selection of outdoor TVs includes stellar 4K picture options for maximum video quality. We suggest scooping up some premium seating to spin off a fantastic alcove for watching the game, or — hey, why not mount it high over that fresh new outdoor kitchen bar?
