I am on my 3rd set of grates. It's getting expensive to replace grates every 12-15 months. I take care of them and season like I would a cast iron skillet. I even stored grates inside this past winter. Still rust! Is a common problem with Broil King?
the grills are falling apart and rusting, after only 2 years. Its unfortunate since Broil King is usually a good name in the BBQ world. Will this happen in the KEG? has anybody experienced this before I sink some serious $$$$ on the KEG. Anybody know of decent replacements? I am not looking to repeat with these grills.
Like almost all of the other reviews, my Broil King Baron cast iron grates are flaking rusted and pretty much unusable after a couple of years. I like the rest of the grill, but the grates are junk. Don't buy them.
I paid extra than what I wanted in hopes that this grill would last. I bought it 2 years ago this summer from Lowes. I just went out to cook on it for the first time after winter. The grates are all rusted and the coating is pealing off. I'd like to replace them, but at $42/grate (you need 4), I might as well just buy a cheaper grill every couple years.
I have used these cast iron grates for about 3 and a half years now. All I can say is that they are terrible. I did a full oil soak and cooked them in oil (in a turkey fryer) at 250f for a full day, then oiled weekly for 4 years and still have grates falling apart due to rust. I live in Ontario Canada, and we do get winter, but this BBQ is used year round, and the heat from cooking keeps it nice and dry inside. It's not just surface rust, the grills are complete garbage, cracked right through, flaking and falling apart. I spent over $1000 on my Natural gas Broil King Regal line BBQ and I would never buy one again thanks to these grates. I'm looking into replacing with another manufacturers stainless steel grates that should fit close enough, until I can replace this with an N or W brand. It's a shame because the cooking is even and the heat retention is great. I just wish the quality was better.
My experience has been like all the others who took the trouble to write. I bought the Baron 590 girl a year ago and the cooking grids rapidly deteriorated and rusted out so that they now have to be replaced. This in spite of my having exercised care and followed Broil King's recommendations. It's most unfortunate, because, otherwise the grill has been excellent. It's sad that Broil King would incorporate such an inferior, but critical, part in an otherwise high quality product.

The grill itself is ok. Left side is much hotter than the right, but I've gotten used to that. Cast iron grates are disintegrating after less than a year. Very disappointing. I like cast iron, but I think I will have to buy aftermarket stainless replacements. Hopefully they will last longer.

Solid body and heating elements however grills rust far too quickly. Rating very largely based on the quality of the grills and the fact they need to be replaced so quickly.
I bought my Broil King Baron two yrs ago and am very disappointed that the centre of the 4 grills have rusted. The BBQ was on my back deck, and somewhat sheltered from bad weather. It was always covered with a Broil King cover when not in use. These grills should NOT have rusted this quickly. What a disappointment.

When will my item arrive?
Once shipped, items usually arrive within 3-5 business days. While UPS and FedEx are our carriers for smaller items, be aware that larger items and orders are shipped via freight. The freight process is a bit more complicated than what we've all come to expect for small parcels, so it's important that you're prepared and understand what's required of you well before delivery day.
- Most freight products ship on a pallet
- Some carriers will call to schedule a delivery window, while others will deliver the shipment to a reasonably accessible location closest to your residence (their goal is to deliver as near a garage door as they can).
- We'll specify which process you can expect in your shipping confirmation email.
For carriers that schedule delivery appointments:
Carriers that schedule delivery appointments require you to be home for delivery and provide your signature. The delivery is made with a semi-truck with lift gate services, and the shipment is dropped off at the curb. If you authorize the shipping company to leave the delivery without a signature, BBQGuys can't be held responsible for damages that occur during delivery. As complicated as this process may seem, we've only scratched the surface here — please review our detailed guide to freight delivery so there are no surprises when a freight shipment heads your way.
For carriers that deliver without an appointment:
Carriers that deliver without an appointment don't require you to be home or set up a delivery window, and you aren't required to sign for the pallet(s). Instead of scheduling an appointment, arranging your schedule to be home for the delivery, and signing to confirm receipt, you can sit back and let your items come to you. If you're home at the time of the drop-off, you can request the driver place your delivery in the garage; if you're out of the house, the driver will leave it near the garage or doorstep.
