Same issue as everyone else. Great grill and horrible cooking grates. Started rusting 6 month in and can't be used now. What is Broil King doing about this. Clearly a product issue.
We purchased the Baron grill from Lowes on March 4, 2016. We are pleased with the size and how the unit hears and cooks. However, the cooking grates have now rusted to badly that they are almost unusable. The grill was used about once a week during the summer and 6 to 7 times during the winter. It always covered and stored when not in use.

I have owned this grill for just under two years, and I love the way it cooks! But, I'm already on my second set of cooking grids. Unfortunately, like my original set, these too have rusted badly. I don't feel comfortable cooking on this surface since I don't believe it is healthy. I carefully seasoned them when new with Crisco vegetable shortening (per instructions) and sprayed them with high temp BBQ grill Pam before each use. Also, as instructed, I allowed the food residue to stay on the surface until right before the next use of the grill, only burning it off and cleaning it immediately prior to next use. I re-seasoned them with Crisco numerous times throughout the year - all to no avail. Regardless of the level of care used, these cooking grids seem destined to rust. If I keep this grill, I'm strongly considering going with stainless steel next time. While i prefer cooking on cast iron, I suspect that the stainless steel grids may have a longer life cycle. At least I hope so. And, by the way, the flavor wave metal slats beneath the surface of the cooking grids has rusted as well. Ugggh. But, I'm not as concerned with that rust, since it does not touch the food.

I've had the Baron 400 for a couple years underneath my back patio, away from the elements. Underside of grill grates are completely rusted. I take good care of the grates, oiling and cleaning annually, but the grates are unusable for basting due to rust.

I've had the grill less than 18 months. Love the grill, but agree with the other posts that the grates are terrible. I always clean them thoroughly after every use, and the grates are already shot.
I love this grill, but the grates are horrible! They have rusted in spite of constant oiling. The underside of the grates are chipping off in slivers. I am having a difficult time finding genuine broil king replacement grates. Any suggestions?
Bought my Grill 2 1/2 years ago, and like the other reviews, the grates have been flaking off in large strips of rust. Other than the deterioration of the grates, I love the grill. Was looking at a Webber, but a friend bought this grill shortly before I bought mine, and they were happy with the quality of the grilling. They moved, so I am not sure what their experience was after.
My grill a Baron is about 2 1/2 years old and my cooking grids are rusting to the point of where they are flaking off strips of ruts from the cast iron grids this in spite of always oiling my grids and fatefully cleaning the grids after each grilling session. Very disappointed .... Other than the grids the grill is great, I will be contacting customer service
Thought I had purchased a grill that would not have this problem. My grill is 1 1/2 yrs old and grids are unusable
I bought this grill (Baron 590) 3 years ago, the rust started on the cooking grates within the first year, used different oils to prevent further rust and deterioration but they are falling apart now. I love the grill other than this problem and want to continue using it. Is there a better quality replacement for these grates??

When will my item arrive?
Once shipped, items usually arrive within 3-5 business days. While UPS and FedEx are our carriers for smaller items, be aware that larger items and orders are shipped via freight. The freight process is a bit more complicated than what we've all come to expect for small parcels, so it's important that you're prepared and understand what's required of you well before delivery day.
- Most freight products ship on a pallet
- Some carriers will call to schedule a delivery window, while others will deliver the shipment to a reasonably accessible location closest to your residence (their goal is to deliver as near a garage door as they can).
- We'll specify which process you can expect in your shipping confirmation email.
For carriers that schedule delivery appointments:
Carriers that schedule delivery appointments require you to be home for delivery and provide your signature. The delivery is made with a semi-truck with lift gate services, and the shipment is dropped off at the curb. If you authorize the shipping company to leave the delivery without a signature, BBQGuys can't be held responsible for damages that occur during delivery. As complicated as this process may seem, we've only scratched the surface here — please review our detailed guide to freight delivery so there are no surprises when a freight shipment heads your way.
For carriers that deliver without an appointment:
Carriers that deliver without an appointment don't require you to be home or set up a delivery window, and you aren't required to sign for the pallet(s). Instead of scheduling an appointment, arranging your schedule to be home for the delivery, and signing to confirm receipt, you can sit back and let your items come to you. If you're home at the time of the drop-off, you can request the driver place your delivery in the garage; if you're out of the house, the driver will leave it near the garage or doorstep.
