Take Your Wood-Fired Cooking to the Next Level with Traeger Pro 780

Take your wood-fired cooking skills to the next level with the Pro 780 from Traeger. With more precise temperature control, D2 Direct Drive, and rugged all-terrain wheels and a stronger body, the Pro Series pellet grill can tackle any grilling challenge. The Pro series 780 pellet grill is constructed with a stamped black lid, powder coated steel, and boasts 36,000 BTUs of cooking power for the 780 square inches of cooking area.

Big Grill, Big Grilling Surface

The main grilling rack is 30 X 19 inches of porcelain coated steel grilling surface accompanied by a 30 X 10.5-inch extra grill rack for a total grilling area of 780 square inches, letting you cook a full meal all at one time.

The Pro 780 Does it All: Low & Slow or Searing Hot

The versatility of this pellet grill allows you to smoke at temperatures as low as 180 degrees and then crank it up to 500 degrees to sear to perfection. The natural airflow inside of the grill allows for convection cooking, so you can bake a pizza right on your grill. Convection cooking also means you do not have to turn your meat, unless cooking with high temperatures or if you want even grill marks.

Traeger WiFIRE

Tired of babysitting your grill? Try out the WiFIRE controller to change the temperature, set timers and access thousands of Traeger recipes using the Traeger app and your smart phone (available for iOS & Android devices). The WiFIRE controller is also compatible with Google Home and Amazon Alexa enabled devices, allowing you to control grilling temperatures, monitor internal temperature of food, set timers, and create alerts using voice commands. With the purchase of this grill, you will have access to the Traeger Grill Guide app with the perfect recipe for every occasion.

Traeger D2 Direct Drive

The D2 Direct Drive drivetrain technology makes the Ironwoods more durable, with the DC brushless motor, and increases the efficiency of the grill with Turbo Temp fast start-up, and the variable speed fan.

Efficient Pellet Consumption

When you turn on the grill, the auger begins to feed pellets into the firepot while the draft induction fan feeds air into it. The igniter rod is activated and glows red hot for the first four minutes to ignite the pellets in the firepot. These cost-effective pellets burn at a rate of only 2 lbs. per hour on high heat, 1 lb. per hour on medium heat, and only 1/2 lb. per hour when smoking. The Pro series also adds a clean out to the hopper, allowing you to quickly change the smoke flavor of the pellets while grilling.

Additional Features

  • This energy efficient grill runs off a standard 110-volt outlet
  • Large capacity pellet hopper, holding up to 18 pounds of Traeger hardwood pellets
  • The Pro 780 has a keep warm mode so you can eat when you are ready to, not when the food is ready
  • The Pro 780 features storage hooks for extra grill racks, and is built to outlast the competition from the ground up with a rock-solid sawhorse-style chassis with heavy-duty locking casters to help the grill roll easily

This review is for unboxing and setup review only

Delivered 30 November 2023. Today is 06 January 2024. The unboxing and assembly instructions were very easy to follow and were spot-on. Unfortunately, the chimney cap bolt was improperly machined (i.e., the bolt threads were not properly machined to match the threads of the pipe) which caused the chimney cap bolt to become cross-threaded as I was installing the bolt into the pipe. The threads on the chimney pipe were undamaged. I purchased an after-market chimney cap and chimney pipe, they were not sold separately, and I only used the nuts and bolts from the new cap to secure the original chimney cap to the original chimney pipe. The after-market nuts and bolts were a perfect match for the original chimney cap and chimney pipe. As of this review, 06 January 2024, I have not used the Traeger for grilling because I wanted to resolve the cross-threaded bolt issue.

Long term review: Inconsistent and Unreliable

I have had this grill for almost two years so I have a lot of experience using this unit..meaning this is not a first impression review. WHEN it works properly, it's great. That's the problem. It is incredibly inconsistent with respects to the temperature. For example, when setting the thermostat on high, the temperature will fluctuate between 350-490. This happens randomly. So I have had multiple meals RUINED due to this inconsistent performance. Using the same pellets and following directions (quarterly cleanings - which is a PITA in itself). Sometimes it heats up and sometimes it doesn't - it's not a reliable product (especially for the price) and in fact the most unreliable grill I've ever used. I plan on switching to another product.

Forgiving to the multitasking

It's revolutionized our cooking and moved us outside. Year round! So easy to use and very forgiving to those of us that multitask and do other things while cooking. A Christmas tradition is start the salmon and go to church. I'll monitor it from my watch app. Turn it off when it is done. Then it's perfect by the time we get home. Going on 4yrs.

Best grill owned

Bought 3 months ago, I am very impressed with this grill especially the WIFI. Just sett it and walk away. Had a Pit Boss for a couple of years. My advice spend the extra money and buy this grill, you will not go wearing. Mine is used every Sunday and never disappoints.

Huge letdown

I have been nothing but disappointed with this product. Especially since I have friends who love Tragger products however for the past year EVERY TIME I have used this grill is ALWAYS has a flair up and NEVER holds temp well it's always getting way to hot by around 70-100f…. It's basically unusable honestly. I don't even enjoy using it it's more of a headache than anything else. I have called the support line several times and done everything they has suggested and it has made zero difference! This is nothing against the employees what so ever they have been professional and extremely nice whenever I have had any concerns however the quality of this product just isn't there and makes me want to sell it and get a different brand that will actually hold a temperature and not be a nightmare to use every time! When I first got the grill I was extremely excited and recommended it to friends however after using it I have had to take that back and honestly tell my friends this has made me almost never want to buy a Tragger again, it feels like you are paying for the name because I certainly have not paid for quality.

AWESOME Grill

The Pro 780 being my first pellet grill purchase was the right move. People really talk a big hype about this grill and its definitely for a reason. This Traeger has really changed the way my family and I eat. The recipes are simple and the ability to control the temperature remotely is awesome. The flavors stand out from anything I have ever cooked on before. I have already sold my old charcoal and gas grill. Super stoked about this product. Proud to be part of the TRAEGERHOOD.

Flimsy overpriced Pro 780

This was purchased as a family gift by my wife because she is tired of my 30+ yo wood fired grill. Which has no problem cooking for a few hundred people. Otherwise, I don't plan on teaching myself how to cook on something new when the old works fine. First impressions of the traeger 780, nice but too thin and flimsy, thicker materials do cook better and more evenly. Second it is way overpriced for what it is. Third I have been told to Lower my expectations on the outcome of how food tastes. Fourth the fact that it only has a 3 year warranty on burnout so it will not last that long with the amount of cooking I do. If it is not sold before then. The pellets themselves are probably glued together so no telling what kind of toxins are emitted from that with a electric burner. So needless to say I will stick to a open fire wood grill.

When will my item arrive?

Once shipped, items usually arrive within 3-5 business days. While UPS and FedEx are our carriers for smaller items, be aware that larger items and orders are shipped via freight. The freight process is a bit more complicated than what we've all come to expect for small parcels, so it's important that you're prepared and understand what's required of you well before delivery day.

  • Most freight products ship on a pallet
  • Some carriers will call to schedule a delivery window, while others will deliver the shipment to a reasonably accessible location closest to your residence (their goal is to deliver as near a garage door as they can).
  • We'll specify which process you can expect in your shipping confirmation email.

For carriers that schedule delivery appointments:

Carriers that schedule delivery appointments require you to be home for delivery and provide your signature. The delivery is made with a semi-truck with lift gate services, and the shipment is dropped off at the curb. If you authorize the shipping company to leave the delivery without a signature, BBQGuys can't be held responsible for damages that occur during delivery. As complicated as this process may seem, we've only scratched the surface here — please review our detailed guide to freight delivery so there are no surprises when a freight shipment heads your way.

For carriers that deliver without an appointment:

Carriers that deliver without an appointment don't require you to be home or set up a delivery window, and you aren't required to sign for the pallet(s). Instead of scheduling an appointment, arranging your schedule to be home for the delivery, and signing to confirm receipt, you can sit back and let your items come to you. If you're home at the time of the drop-off, you can request the driver place your delivery in the garage; if you're out of the house, the driver will leave it near the garage or doorstep.
