Customer Reviews
Okay, first off, the Traeger customer service reps are great, and overall Traeger has been accommodating. Also, I love my larger pro series, use it all the time. If you've read some of the "unhappy" reviews, you'll realize the Scout has it's issues. It is a great idea, and great size, but the temps do swing quite a bit more than the big Traeger's. After working with CS and trouble shooting everything, they sent me a replacement. The Scout, with a little patience, will begin to stabilize the temp in the mid range, but it takes a good 15 - 20 minutes after firing and a little trial and error. Also, best to use this as a tailgating "grill"; think burgers and steaks, chicken, kabobs, hot dogs and brats, etc. anything you'll cook in the 350* range (steaks likely a little higher) that isn't as temp sensitive. It doesn't seem to be able to maintain temp very well at the smoke range (will swing to high) and at the high range (if you set it at 425* temp will error itself out at about 550*, and turn off, at least mine does). You are not going to do anything slow and low (225*) on this grill. As it tries to keep temp at ~225*, it'll swing to over 300* and be there for 5-10 minutes plus. Keep in mind, managing temp on a charcoal grill isn't easy either. Hope this helps.

I own the Lil' Texas a love it. The Scout is not the same caliber. It will run up to 450 degrees when set to 180. Treager sent me another control module and it did the same thing. A supervisor from the support section talked me through a start up sequence that appeared to work at first but it again ran up to 450 degrees. I gave up on Treager

Worst purchase I've made. Completely disgusted with this product on the smoke setting it runs about 400 degrees. Thermostat is completely useless.

Hubby says this thing flares up like crazy - very difficult to regulate! Nothing like the one we have at home (bigger model). He is disgusted w this birthday gift!

We bought it for our camper. Can't live without my Traeger.
It's a perfect size to take camping but it tends to have huge temperature swings! I've learned that it if I want cook at 225 that I better set it 180 to keep it from going up in the 300s!
I love this grill!! I literally will not cook meat on anything else anymore. It's so easy to operate and everything comes out mouth watering.

It runs VERY high... be mindful of the temperature

It is interesting to see such diverse customer reviews on the Traeger Scout. Some reporting a happy outcomes, while others are expressing severe issues -- mostly relating to extreme variations in temperatures. While we retain confidence that Traeger is committed to delivering a quality product, which it apparently achieves with the larger units, the Scout for us has been unusable since our June 28, 2020 purchase. The temperature variations have been +/- 100 degrees, which at least in our case suggest an extreme product defect. Moreover the experience of trying to contain the overheating by turning it to "smoke" resulted in the temperature climbing above 400 degrees and going up fast. We had to turn the unit completely off to avoid a serious problem. This seems to be a serious safety issue. We're now three phone calls into support -- nice people, but unable to provide any constructive guidance. We're told to replace the fan -- but they have no idea how that's done. Nor do we. We hope we can update this with a needed positive outcome. And will do so if we can get a constructive response from someone actually AT Traeger. At the moment, we are extremely disappointed with this product at the actual support we've been able to receive.

When will my item arrive?
Once shipped, items usually arrive within 3-5 business days. While UPS and FedEx are our carriers for smaller items, be aware that larger items and orders are shipped via freight. The freight process is a bit more complicated than what we've all come to expect for small parcels, so it's important that you're prepared and understand what's required of you well before delivery day.
- Most freight products ship on a pallet
- Some carriers will call to schedule a delivery window, while others will deliver the shipment to a reasonably accessible location closest to your residence (their goal is to deliver as near a garage door as they can).
- We'll specify which process you can expect in your shipping confirmation email.
For carriers that schedule delivery appointments:
Carriers that schedule delivery appointments require you to be home for delivery and provide your signature. The delivery is made with a semi-truck with lift gate services, and the shipment is dropped off at the curb. If you authorize the shipping company to leave the delivery without a signature, BBQGuys can't be held responsible for damages that occur during delivery. As complicated as this process may seem, we've only scratched the surface here — please review our detailed guide to freight delivery so there are no surprises when a freight shipment heads your way.
For carriers that deliver without an appointment:
Carriers that deliver without an appointment don't require you to be home or set up a delivery window, and you aren't required to sign for the pallet(s). Instead of scheduling an appointment, arranging your schedule to be home for the delivery, and signing to confirm receipt, you can sit back and let your items come to you. If you're home at the time of the drop-off, you can request the driver place your delivery in the garage; if you're out of the house, the driver will leave it near the garage or doorstep.
