It is much easier to control the temperature than my Frya. It is hard to get the right balance between the top and bottom heating elements for a crispy bottom crust that is not burned and a perfect top crusty and toppings. That being said, the pizza is great and always gets eaten quickly.
The oven takes some getting used to, but overall it does a very good job.
I own a ooni Karu 12 which I was never fully happy with. The gas burner would always go out multiple times. I sent Ooni a video of the burner going out and they sent me a new burner and the same thing happened. It didn't work either. I am left with the fact that I live at an elevation of 7200 feet (~2200 meters) and the burner just doesn't work at this elevation. So I was stuck with the wood burner which I could never get up to 900 degrees. But I got good at making at least 3 pizzas anyway. I do like the portability of this oven. And I learned a lot about making pizzas. Along comes the Volt 12 which I love. The temperature stays where I put it so I can count on it. I love the top and bottom temperature adjustment. I have already experimented with New York and New Haven style pizzas with great success. I am having fun.
My project is still a work in progress but love having an indoor pizza oven as my outdoor wood burning oven that I built is so much work and we get comparable results in our Ooni Volt. The frozen dough ball that Ooni sells cook really well, light and airy strong enough to hold up but delicate and delectable like a pastry. I wasn't sure about a metal peel but it works great with fine ground semolina flour. After the holidays my help should be back to finish up and can send picture updates, the hood range will be nice for that occasional little burn. The grate that the Ooni sits on can slide to the back of this area that was originally intended to be a bar pantry/closet. The grate was salvaged from an old farmhouse salvaged at a fire department control burn over 25 years ago, sitting around for a quarter of a century waiting for the Ooni Volt.
Amazing hearing ability, I do wish the interior was a little bigger to make bigger pizzas but besides that it is amazing! Beats waking outside into the snow to my outdoor Ooni oven!!!
So as a kick off event for my new Ooni Volt (I had owned a Koda 12 before) I offered to cook for my co-workers retirement feed (its a tradition, as a cop, to feed your your coworkers upon your retirement). He and I knocked out about 21 pizzas to-order for a bunch of coworkers in about a 3 hour window....everybody loved it and now I'm committed to doing other retirement feeds!!! ANYTIME!!! I love it, and everyone involved loved the pizza!
We had the Koda and loved it but since we live in WI we could really only use it about 2/3 of the year (if we really wanted to, we'd set it up in the garage but still wasn't ideal. We upgraded to the Volt and and can now make pizza year round! Super simple setup, plug it in, set the temp, and wait about 15-20 minutes. It's very quiet too (microwave is louder) which is nice for being indoor. I think we calculated it uses 16 cents of electricity per hour so it doesn't matter if you need to leave it for a while between pizzas. It's not AS portable as the Koda but you can still pack it up to take to family/friends for a party. If you care about the true "wood fired" portion of pizza making then this isn't for you but if you'd like to take some pride in making a pizza from scratch that tastes great, go for it!

When will my item arrive?
Once shipped, items usually arrive within 3-5 business days. While UPS and FedEx are our carriers for smaller items, be aware that larger items and orders are shipped via freight. The freight process is a bit more complicated than what we've all come to expect for small parcels, so it's important that you're prepared and understand what's required of you well before delivery day.
- Most freight products ship on a pallet
- Some carriers will call to schedule a delivery window, while others will deliver the shipment to a reasonably accessible location closest to your residence (their goal is to deliver as near a garage door as they can).
- We'll specify which process you can expect in your shipping confirmation email.
For carriers that schedule delivery appointments:
Carriers that schedule delivery appointments require you to be home for delivery and provide your signature. The delivery is made with a semi-truck with lift gate services, and the shipment is dropped off at the curb. If you authorize the shipping company to leave the delivery without a signature, BBQGuys can't be held responsible for damages that occur during delivery. As complicated as this process may seem, we've only scratched the surface here — please review our detailed guide to freight delivery so there are no surprises when a freight shipment heads your way.
For carriers that deliver without an appointment:
Carriers that deliver without an appointment don't require you to be home or set up a delivery window, and you aren't required to sign for the pallet(s). Instead of scheduling an appointment, arranging your schedule to be home for the delivery, and signing to confirm receipt, you can sit back and let your items come to you. If you're home at the time of the drop-off, you can request the driver place your delivery in the garage; if you're out of the house, the driver will leave it near the garage or doorstep.
