I think it works great as a grill. Biggest thing info not like us the minimum temp is 250 so you really can't smoke with it very well. Did not ship quickly. I had parts damaged and still waiting for replacements. Bad design on the way the door is in the box. Some of the screws to assemble are in awkward positions. You pretty much burn all the charcoal you put in it because it does not suffocate and put it out like the gravity feed doe. The ash bin should have been bigger too. I don't see why they can't push an update sona guy can use a lower temp, almost the same design as the gravity. I do like it, but maybe my parts will show up someday. It does cook very well.
I bought this 2 weeks ago and haven't had a dinner without it since then. It is sop easy to use and the deal is ridiculously good. it auto ignites easily and sustained the heat for a long time. it disassembles easily to clean and the YouTube video makes out of the box assembly easy.
This was a tough review. On one hand, my 800 produced some of the best meals I've ever made in the nearly 3 years I've had it. However, I've had many issues with it in that time. I've replaced every electrical component inside the unit at least one time. Masterbuilt did send a replacement fan/temperature control unit but it only lasted a couple months before breaking again. I now have an aftermarket device that controls the fan. The safety switches around the various doors on the unit constantly break and the until will not work at all when they do. I have to keep an inventory of switches on hand at all times to swap them out at moment's notice. The biggest issue of all in my opinion is safety related. Grease from the cooking meat collects inside the unit's manifold and can catch fire. Despite trying to mitigate this issue by routinely cleaning the unit, using drip pans to collect falling grease, and purchasing aftermarket upgrades, I've had three material grease fires. The latest occurred during a low heat cook. I'm too scared at this point to use it for higher heat cooking. When it works and works safely, the 800 is a great smoker.
So after 8 years of smoking with pellets it was time for a change. Loved the ease of the set and forget nature of my pellet smoker but the smoke flavor was just always too mild (even with additional smoke tubes) for me. I got a great deal on the Autoignite and decided to go for it. Wow!!!! what a difference. It's set and forget like my previous grill but with the great flavor I was missing that can only come from charcoal and real wood. I have only done 2 cooks so far but the difference was noticeable to everyone over the July 4 weekend. Can't wait to use it again. Now I may have to get a gravity 1050 to handle the larger crowds looking for a great BBQ meal.
App doesn't work. Grill has constant problems requires new sensors. Never starts correctly. Truly a big beautiful piece of crap.

I've used a lot of smokers/grills over the years, and I have to say, The Masterbuilt Gravity Series 1050 feels like the best of both worlds: the flavor of real charcoal and wood, plus the convenience you'd expect from a pellet grill. I'm super impressed. What I love most is how simple it is to control the temperature. You load the hopper, if you want to add even more flavor, you toss in some wood chunks, and set your target temp (either on the digital controller or on the app). That's it. The fan does all the work to regulate the temp. You can can dial in low and slow at 225°F for hours without babysitting it (which as most of us know is the pain of smoking anything) or crank it up past 700°F if I want to get that steakhouse sear on steaks. The cooking space is huge, with plenty of room to smoke multiple racks of ribs, a pack of chicken thighs, or even a couple of pork butts all at the same time . I also like that you can set up direct or indirect heat zones with the included grates. The cast iron grates hold heat really well and leave great sear marks. If you're into classic barbecue flavor but don't want to constantly fiddle with vents, dampers, and the constant management of your cook, then this grill is a game changer. The only downside I've noticed is it goes through charcoal a bit faster than a traditional offset smoker, especially on longer cooks, and it takes a little bit longer to heat up than what is advertised. But honestly, the tradeoff is worth it for the consistency and ease of use. Bottom line: if you're serious about barbecue but still want the freedom to actually enjoy your day instead of babysitting the fire all day (and night), the Gravity Series 1050 is for you.

Design flaws: the fan now ash all over and it's designed to burn all the charcoal.

I've had this smoker for a year now. I regret buying it for the following reasons. First, the rust. I followed all the seasoning instructions, keep in under the coner under a covered patio, and still deal with rust. Second, the electrical components frequently malfunction shutting down the smoker. Third, it has hot spots. The full cooking surface cannot be utilized as the cooking surface temps are uneven and flare ups are common, greatly increasing the temperature reaching the smoked meat and causing burning and dry spots.
Bought this grill/smoker 3.5 years ago. I did wear out a baffle /defuser (I used it so much!). I will always own this grill! I use a mix of lump coal and wood chunks. My neighbors are always asking what I am cooking……lol some times when I am preheating it…

When will my item arrive?
Once shipped, items usually arrive within 3-5 business days. While UPS and FedEx are our carriers for smaller items, be aware that larger items and orders are shipped via freight. The freight process is a bit more complicated than what we've all come to expect for small parcels, so it's important that you're prepared and understand what's required of you well before delivery day.
- Most freight products ship on a pallet
- Some carriers will call to schedule a delivery window, while others will deliver the shipment to a reasonably accessible location closest to your residence (their goal is to deliver as near a garage door as they can).
- We'll specify which process you can expect in your shipping confirmation email.
For carriers that schedule delivery appointments:
Carriers that schedule delivery appointments require you to be home for delivery and provide your signature. The delivery is made with a semi-truck with lift gate services, and the shipment is dropped off at the curb. If you authorize the shipping company to leave the delivery without a signature, BBQGuys can't be held responsible for damages that occur during delivery. As complicated as this process may seem, we've only scratched the surface here — please review our detailed guide to freight delivery so there are no surprises when a freight shipment heads your way.
For carriers that deliver without an appointment:
Carriers that deliver without an appointment don't require you to be home or set up a delivery window, and you aren't required to sign for the pallet(s). Instead of scheduling an appointment, arranging your schedule to be home for the delivery, and signing to confirm receipt, you can sit back and let your items come to you. If you're home at the time of the drop-off, you can request the driver place your delivery in the garage; if you're out of the house, the driver will leave it near the garage or doorstep.
