Great lid - easy and secure.

I am glad I bought a couple before I read other reviews. The lid does fit a standard Home Depot 5 gallon bucket. It is tight - as it should be. As another review said - as you push the lid on, you will get to a point where you have 2-3 inches left and the bucket bulges out some - I simply used a butter knife to wedge the bucket in and the lid pops right on - nice and tight.

PELLET STORAGE LID

I bought two and they are extremely nice to have. It would have been very helpful to know that they do not fit all five gallon buckets. Not till doing a search on the Internet did I figure that out. But work great if you have the correct size bucket.

A Useful Product

Having read a number of negative reviews about being able to get the storage lids on top of five gallon buckets I was a little hesitant to purchase these lids and filters. However I did end up purchasing three and I am glad I did. They are a great product. A couple of things to note though. The lids are extremely tight fitting. And as others have recommended I do recommend the white food grade five gallon buckets from Lowes. The lids will not go on without a lot of pressure and proper technique. I used a technique that allowed me to get the lids on in about 10-15 seconds without using ovens or microwaves. Just put the lid on the bucket with the spout cover open and start pressing on the lid with two hands. I was on my knees and I started pressing on the part of the bucket that was closest to me. As you do this around the bucket you will end up with about 1-2 inches where the bucket is still outside the lid. At this point lean over with your chest applying pressure on the lid and your two palms on the top of the lid where the bucket is still sticking out. Simultaneously use your index and middle fingers on both hands to push the bucket under the lid use your palms to push down on the lid and apply pressure with your chest. The lid will pop right on. Also since the five gallon buckets are tapered the filter will not go all the way down into the bucket. Just force the filter as far into the bucket as you can making sure it goes down evenly by apply pressure with your hands at different points along the circumference of the filter. My filters went into the bucket far enough (about two thirds of the way to the bottom of the bucket) to allow a full 20 pound bag of Traeger wood pellets to fit. I find this to be a very useful product.

Great Idea

We have two grills one that we travel with in our RV. This was just what I was looking for to 'contain' the pellets (when a bag tears during travel it's not a pretty picture)! Measure your buckets all 5 gallon pails are not equal! Even with the correct sized pail it was a bit of a challenge to snap the lid on.

Poor fit and design Good idea though Tried 4 different buckets and wouldn't fit any of them. Returned it to Scheels and they tries as well and couldn't get it to fit. The packaging doesn't give any of the tips mentioned on the other reviews. Personally I don't want to have to heat the product in the oven and then pound it on to get it to fit.

Good idea

Great idea... very helpful once we were able to get it on a bucket. However even with both of us squeezing and pushing the lid would not go on a standard 5 gal bucket. We had to put the lid in the oven at low heat for 5-10 minutes to be able to fit it over the bucket so far we haven't had to remove it but when it comes time to refill the bucket we will see how difficult it is to get off And back on again. For the price it should come with a traeger bucket too..

Pellet Storage Lid

Ran into the same problems as most here finding a bucket that it fit. Finally took a heat gun and heated around the outside edge of the lid till it was about 175 degrees then forced it onto the bucket then let it cool after that it is a good snug fit but can get the lid off and on without any problems. Works great at keeping the fines out of the grill.

How to get these to work

Yes as the reviews state bad design. Went 5 places to find a bucket to work all was to big. Experimented and found a solution that I wanted to share with everyone. Called support and they said to make sure dispensing lid was up still no help. Here is the way to make them work and go on with litlle effort. I microwaved the lids for 6 minutes and presto the product went on with little effort. I still had to force them on but with the added flexibity of the lid due to the microwaving they went on. Hope this helps because I was frustrated when I purchased them.

Pellet Storage Lids

Bought 2 of them and thought it was a great idea. Wish I had read the reviews first especially about the one where the Lids were put in the sun for 15 minutes to soften would have made my day a little easier. It took 2 of us to get each lid on.

Should have loozed at reviews

Shold have looked at the reviews to see that a white bucket from HD would have saved me alot of time with the bottom piece. But aside that it works great.

When will my item arrive?

Once shipped, items usually arrive within 3-5 business days. While UPS and FedEx are our carriers for smaller items, be aware that larger items and orders are shipped via freight. The freight process is a bit more complicated than what we've all come to expect for small parcels, so it's important that you're prepared and understand what's required of you well before delivery day.

  • Most freight products ship on a pallet
  • Some carriers will call to schedule a delivery window, while others will deliver the shipment to a reasonably accessible location closest to your residence (their goal is to deliver as near a garage door as they can).
  • We'll specify which process you can expect in your shipping confirmation email.

For carriers that schedule delivery appointments:

Carriers that schedule delivery appointments require you to be home for delivery and provide your signature. The delivery is made with a semi-truck with lift gate services, and the shipment is dropped off at the curb. If you authorize the shipping company to leave the delivery without a signature, BBQGuys can't be held responsible for damages that occur during delivery. As complicated as this process may seem, we've only scratched the surface here — please review our detailed guide to freight delivery so there are no surprises when a freight shipment heads your way.

For carriers that deliver without an appointment:

Carriers that deliver without an appointment don't require you to be home or set up a delivery window, and you aren't required to sign for the pallet(s). Instead of scheduling an appointment, arranging your schedule to be home for the delivery, and signing to confirm receipt, you can sit back and let your items come to you. If you're home at the time of the drop-off, you can request the driver place your delivery in the garage; if you're out of the house, the driver will leave it near the garage or doorstep.
