I have always piled charcoal briquettes in the center of my grill and doused them with lighter fluid to get my grill started. Overall I have been satisfied with the results. However I never liked the residue the lighter fluid deposited on the sides of my grill bowl. I couldn't help thinking that those repeated deposits over the years was affecting the flavor of my grilled food especially when I used the dome. Recently I purchased a new Jumbo Joe grill and decided to give the Rapidfire Compact Chimney Starter a try in conjunction with the Rapidfire Fire Starters for my charcoal. I have been very pleased with the results. The combination of the two products have started my charcoal quickly and has prevented that deposit of petroleum film on the sides of my grill bowl. My experience has been that only 1 fire starter under my Rapidfire Compact Chimney Starter is required to have my charcoal ready to go in about 15 minutes. Upon lighting the Chimney Starter directs all the smoke and soot up and away from the sides of my grill. I will not go back to my old method.

This chimney's ability to get coals ready fast is quite a bit better than the generic chimney. The problem with generics is that they took out the wire bottom and put in a perforated plate. This chimney has a wire bottom that is cone shaped and it is surprisingly fast. It is not a 5 star because of the plastic grip. It gets too hot. This is one area where the others have it right, they use a low density wooden grip and that will not transfer heat to your hand anywhere near as fast as plastic. A 2nd stacked, heat shield would help too. The capacity is greater than most other chimneys too.

I got this a month or so ago. My wife and I are empty-nesters, so I have a smaller grill, but I use it a lot. I have cast iron grates, and they require a little more maintenance. With this chimney, I can get the coals going while at the same time cleaning and oiling the grill grates. Then just pour in the coals and I'm set. It's perfect size for my grill, and heats the coals faster than in the grill. Also great for adding coals for long-cooking things like whole chickens or ribs.

When will my item arrive?
Once shipped, items usually arrive within 3-5 business days. While UPS and FedEx are our carriers for smaller items, be aware that larger items and orders are shipped via freight. The delivery is made with a semi-truck with lift gate services, and the shipment is dropped off at the curb. Carriers that deliver without an appointment don't require you to be home or set up a delivery window, and you aren't required to sign for the pallet(s). Instead of scheduling an appointment, arranging your schedule to be home for the delivery, and signing to confirm receipt, you can sit back and let your items come to you. If you're home at the time of the drop-off, you can request the driver place your delivery in the garage; if you're out of the house, the driver will leave it near the garage or doorstep.
