The stainless steel grate that comes with the Kamado Joe is pretty good, but the one area where it lacks is in the ability to get hot enough (with enough heat retention) to give those sexy grill marks on your steaks or other meats. The solution is the cast iron grill grate. I have used this a few times with the D&C set up, and do a reverse sear that is the perfect finishing touch to your grilled meats.

works well but difficult to season and is much hotter than temp gauge on komato. I calibrate temp guage .

Hi Rick, glad you are enjoying your grill. I would recommend against re-calibrating your temperature gauge. Temperature gauges on grills will never be accurate for the grill surface. This is because of the distance between the grilling surface and the gauge. Gauges should be used for a general idea of what is going on inside the grill before you open it. If you want more accurate readings of the grills surface, the iKamand for Kamado Joe is a great Smart product that will remove a lot of guess work when cooking with a Kamado Joe. Also, you can use kamados for convention cooking. And unlike grilling, when you are using a kamado this way with hot air circulating around, the gauge will actually give an accurate reading. When will my item arrive?
Once shipped, items usually arrive within 3-5 business days. While UPS and FedEx are our carriers for smaller items, be aware that larger items and orders are shipped via freight. The freight process is a bit more complicated than what we've all come to expect for small parcels, so it's important that you're prepared and understand what's required of you well before delivery day.

The delivery is made with a semi-truck with lift gate services, and the shipment is dropped off at the curb. Carriers that deliver without an appointment don't require you to be home or set up a delivery window, and you aren't required to sign for the pallet(s). Instead of scheduling an appointment, arranging your schedule to be home for the delivery, and signing to confirm receipt, you can sit back and let your items come to you. If you're home at the time of the drop-off, you can request the driver place your delivery in the garage; if you're out of the house, the driver will leave it near the garage or doorstep.
