Its a Beast !!!

I purchased the Cookshack from BBQ Guys on Apr 27, 2022 been using it almost a year, and it is perfect for my bbq needs. I like that the fire pot is on the side of the cook chamber and not directly under the what ever Im cooking there is also cold smoking drawer for cheeses and jerky. I`ve nad no problems with the pellet drop or auger feed. My only gripe is that the controller is old skool!! It works but no wifi/ wireless connection I use a Fireboard for that but, depending on the outside temperature you might have to adjust the LHT/HHT to dial in the temp/smoke to your needs. I also got the cover and the addon front shelf.

Everything I'd hoped for

The pg500 is absolutely everything I'd hoped for. Easy to use, easy to clean, rock solid. I questioned going to the 1000 for the insulation but it's totally unnecessary. I've had this about 6mo now, and have used it in all weather temps in the mid west without issue.

Bought it after doing much research.

I particularly like having the ability to do both direct and indirect cooking on one unit. I also like the fact that it is made in the USA.

Versatility King

Sear, Smoke, Grill, Warm, Stainless...Everything you want. I thought it would be a bit small, but I haven't found anything I can't handle. Smoking brisket, game hens, salmon.... Grilling steaks to perfection after smoking them for a bit... Searing Tuna... The Fast Eddy gets to 500 degrees fast enough to render my gas grill pointless. I have been using it for almost a year, even in the dead of winter in Wisconsin and I am very impressed. I don't have a lot of time to babysit meats on the grill and this allows me to put a my own thermometer in the side and program what I want. Sure it could have WIFI, but I am not grilling from the car or office.

Love it!

Moved from a propane grill to the PG500 last weekend. Man, what a difference. The food I cooked just the first few days I owned it was some of the best tasting food I have ever cooked in my life. So far I have reverse seared some two inch ribeyes, smoked chicken breasts and a pork butt, grilled hot dogs, burgers, brats, bacon wrapped asparagus, corn and maybe a few other things. It has all been so delicious! I'm definitely a pellet grill convert for life.

I recommend this grill to everyone, easy to use and clean

I cook steaks or pork chops on grill every Sunday. Needed to smoke 9 pork shoulders, only holds 3. I started the grill on Monday morning and didn't turn it off until Wednesday afternoon. Never had a problem

One issue that makes this grill a nightmare

This smoker I get temp. swings @ 45 degrees over and @ 45 degrees under set temp. Does not matter what pellets used, brand,or weather conditions. To change the HHT setting is a nightmare. There should have been a separate control knob to set the HHT. This would have made the grill MUCH,MUCH easier to use.

Question:
I bought one of these from a different place, and I have two major issues with it, that I am wondering if anyone has an answer to. 1) Temperature swings. this grill swings 25 degrees at 450, and 40 degrees at 200, I have played with LHT and HHT to no avail, I can kinda live with the 25, but I cant live with he 40 at 200. Anyone solve that issue? 2) Second issue - Pellets bridge in the hopper ALL the time, or they rat hole and show you the auger while the slope is full of pellets. This is using Traeger pellets....... I do agree that this thing kicks but if you want to grill but for low and low smoke, it isn't working for me.

Answer:
Looks like we have the same unit. There is a fix - I had the same trouble - and of course I am not home to give you the exact section in the manual. So anyway, in the manual, it's called something which I cannot remember, but you'll know it as they have you press the up and down arrows at the same time. You then press the down arrow which lowers the range (how I think of it - it has a name) from the preset of whatever it is to your preference. I believe mine, I usually leave at 15. it seems to keep everything running well for low temperature, long haul things like brisket. Now you are not done, and this is where the manual would help; both buttons a second time takes you to something like the pellet dispensing interval. I believe I had to shorten that one as well. Be aware, you can call/write to the company, I did. They are pretty busy but when they got back to me I was able to reset my unit and have been very happy with the operation since. Best of luck, Jon

Answer:
1. Mine does the same. Have you put a temp probe on the grate and read the temp swings? Mine in reality aren't as bad as the display shows. I read somewhere that the 40 degree swings at low temps are normal with this unit and having them helps more smoke generate. 2. Also have similar issue but I just make sure to settle the pellets prior to each cook and check it every few hours if a long one.

Answer:
If I recall correctly, I had to assemble the base, but everything else was assembled. It was not difficult. I highly recommend this grill. It is the best investment I have ever made. Alex Gleason

Answer:
The side self will require you to place around six bolts into the grill. Besides that, you put the shelves in and dump in some pellets into the hopper. The grill comes packaged into a wood cocoon so that would be the most difficult part knocking out some nails. Virus-free.

Question:
Does this have a air tight seal with a gasket? I have had other smokers that mold if cover goes on and door closed.

Answer:
Hi Doc! This smoker does not have an air tight seal or a gasket.

Question:
does it sear steaks etc. like a charcoal grill?
Was This Helpful?
Answer:
Great question Glenn! This grill actually features a cooking area with direct access to the fire pot. This intense, direct heat will help you achieve that delicious steakhouse sear you are looking for.

When will my item arrive?

Once shipped, items usually arrive within 3-5 business days. While UPS and FedEx are our carriers for smaller items, be aware that larger items and orders are shipped via freight. The freight process is a bit more complicated than what we’ve all come to expect for small parcels, so it’s important that you’re prepared and understand what’s required of you well before delivery day.

  • Most freight products ship on a pallet
  • Some carriers will call to schedule a delivery window, while others will deliver the shipment to a reasonably accessible location closest to your residence (their goal is to deliver as near a garage door as they can).
  • We’ll specify which process you can expect in your shipping confirmation email.

For carriers that schedule delivery appointments:

Carriers that schedule delivery appointments require you to be home for delivery and provide your signature. The delivery is made with a semi-truck with lift gate services, and the shipment is dropped off at the curb. If you authorize the shipping company to leave the delivery without a signature, BBQGuys can’t be held responsible for damages that occur during delivery. As complicated as this process may seem, we’ve only scratched the surface here — please review our detailed guide to freight delivery so there are no surprises when a freight shipment heads your way.

For carriers that deliver without an appointment:

Carriers that deliver without an appointment don’t require you to be home or set up a delivery window, and you aren’t required to sign for the pallet(s). Instead of scheduling an appointment, arranging your schedule to be home for the delivery, and signing to confirm receipt, you can sit back and let your items come to you. If you’re home at the time of the drop-off, you can request the driver place your delivery in the garage; if you’re out of the house, the driver will leave it near the garage or doorstep.
