Had it for about 4 months and it's perfect for all types of grilling
Bought this kamado grill about a year ago. Good grill, fraction of the cost of a BGE or KJ. Made a minor and cheap mod; added felt around the bottom vent to improve temperature control. Works great now!
As good or better than the green egg plus a much more handsome design
Overall I'm pretty happy with this, since it's my first kamado. It does hold the heat pretty steady as it should and my cooks have been satisfactory. A couple downsides: The main cooking grate fell apart before a year was up. The grate has hinges on it that swivel part of the grate up so you can insert wood chunks and that's where it broke. Not the hinges themselves, but where the rest of the grate connected to it. Also the top vent started sticking pretty badly after only a month or two, meaning I have to hit it with the palm of my hand to get it loose enough to move from either full close or full open. I also purchased the 22" heat deflector and it seems too small, almost like they gave me one suited for a 20". It just barely sits on the knockouts for it in the egg. It's ok, but they need to make it about 3/4" wide on all three legs to make sure it sits in the KO's properly. If you're just getting started with kamado cooking and don't want to pay the outrageous price for a green egg, this one is a decent start.
I bought this grill because it can be used for so many things. Has been a great addition and controlling the temperature is easy.
I had been debating getting an Egg for a few years but always put it off because of the price--$1200 for a charcoal grill seems expensive to me, no matter what kind of grill it is. A few months ago I found this Pit Boss grill at Costco for half the price of the other brand of ceramic grill. I've never used a Green Egg so I can't make a direct comparison of the two, but I can say this grill works great and I can't imagine what the other brand would do better. The bottom vent on this one seemed pretty loose and I had read reviews that suggested this brand of grill could leak air, making temperature control difficult until the leaks were corrected. As a result, I immediately ordered and installed one of the thermostats and fans available from various internet sites, then sealed around the grill's lower vent with the silver tape HVAC guys use to stop any air leaks. That's the only alteration I made to my grill and the temperature now remains constant to within a couple of degrees (one time I caught the temperature seven degrees above the target temp; every other time I've checked the temperature over the course of five uses, it has been within the margin of error for the thermostat, which I believe is three degrees). The one warning I would give to a purchaser: the instructions say to heat the new grill to a low temp for a couple of hours before cooking with it. I did that, then cooked a pork roast as the first meal prepared on the grill. I detected an off flavor in that meat. I worked as a butcher for several years, so I know we had a good cut of meat--I believe there was something still on the ceramic of the grill. If I could do it over again, I'd heat the grill up to a low temperature as the manufacturer recommends, then burn a second fire at high temperature for three or four hours to burn off any residues on or in the ceramic. Everything has been great since that first meal: we always get good flavor and a nice smoke ring on the meat, and the grill is very easy to use with the fan and thermostat watching the temperature for me. Oh, if you've never used a ceramic grill before, remember that you can't quickly lower the temperature with these things--if you heated it up to a high temperature to cook a pizza for lunch I don't think you could immediately lower it to 225 to slow-cook ribs for dinner. The ceramic absorbs and retains the heat remarkably well--I cooked a brisket on Friday, then sealed up the grill to extinguish the coals; went to clean out the ashes on the following Wednesday and the inside of the ceramic was still warmer than the ambient temperature. I used my bare hands to scoop out some of the remaining charcoal to reuse next time and to make sure the fire was completely out, so I know there were no smoldering coals in there.
I bought this product 8 months ago and it has completely replaced my gas grill!!
I've had my Pit Boss for a year or so and use it often for long low and slow cooks. It also works great to cook restaurant quality steaks, chicken and pork on.
I have had this unit for about a year. Overall it seems to work great. I have had some minor issues with the factory hardware coming loose. It holds the heat in really well, and easy to maintain. The black finish still looks awesome, however the wood on the unit is not holding up to the Arizona sun even with the cover.

When will my item arrive?
Once shipped, items usually arrive within 3-5 business days. While UPS and FedEx are our carriers for smaller items, be aware that larger items and orders are shipped via freight. The freight process is a bit more complicated than what we've all come to expect for small parcels, so it's important that you're prepared and understand what's required of you well before delivery day.
- Most freight products ship on a pallet
- Some carriers will call to schedule a delivery window, while others will deliver the shipment to a reasonably accessible location closest to your residence (their goal is to deliver as near a garage door as they can).
- We'll specify which process you can expect in your shipping confirmation email.
For carriers that schedule delivery appointments:
Carriers that schedule delivery appointments require you to be home for delivery and provide your signature. The delivery is made with a semi-truck with lift gate services, and the shipment is dropped off at the curb. If you authorize the shipping company to leave the delivery without a signature, BBQGuys can't be held responsible for damages that occur during delivery. As complicated as this process may seem, we've only scratched the surface here — please review our detailed guide to freight delivery so there are no surprises when a freight shipment heads your way.
For carriers that deliver without an appointment:
Carriers that deliver without an appointment don't require you to be home or set up a delivery window, and you aren't required to sign for the pallet(s). Instead of scheduling an appointment, arranging your schedule to be home for the delivery, and signing to confirm receipt, you can sit back and let your items come to you. If you're home at the time of the drop-off, you can request the driver place your delivery in the garage; if you're out of the house, the driver will leave it near the garage or doorstep.
