Customer Reviews
I have had the grill for about 8 months. It takes two people to assemble because the pieces are heavy. I use the pit boss 1-2 times per week cooking pork chops, burgers, steaks, brisket, pork shoulder, turkey, corn, asparagus, etc. We are very pleased with this grill and would purchase this again over BGE. The food tastes incredible with lump charcoal. My only complaint is temperature control can be difficult especially at lower temps. I recommend using a shop vacuum to clean out ashes because the scraper tool can't reach everywhere.
I can't begin to tell you how much I love the Pit Boss. It is such a blast to use, it's like an event. I've had it the better part of a year and use it year round, here in MI. Dust off the snow, load with charcoal, fire it up, wait 30 minutes, and get ready to taste some real flavor. Something I haven't been able to do for the past hundred years on my gas grill. I love, love, love, this thing!!! I've used my gas grill just one time since I got the "Boss", and that was to supplement the real cooker so I could feed everyone at the same time. The downside to that was, everyone raved about the "Boss" flavor, that was missing on the gas grill food. The Pit Boss gives you more bang for the buck than anything else on the market. My friends, do not hesitate to buy one.
I have the older version of the firebox. So when you perform a cleaning fire. Be sure not to go above 550 deg. And the dampers are tricky for temp control. Otheise, it performs well.
Bought one on sale @ Costco. 1/3 of the $ for a BGE XL!
Live the grill! Best BBQ I have made. Only improvement I would make would be the bottom vent is to loose and could be improved
Wish the hinge spring was a bit stronger. I worry about lid dropping and breaking.
Eight months later I'm still sure I wasted $700 on the Pit Boss. This is just a heavy version of a Webber Grill...
I bought this grill at Costco last spring for a large patio area where I installed it in a large covered table. I also own a large size Big Green Egg and an even larger offset smoker. The construction of the Pit Boss is very high quality and customer service has been responsive and excellent. Pros: large cooking area, great for smoking large quanties. Can hold 4 chickens vertically! Cons: a little harder to regulate than the BGE, no screen over the lower vent door. This is a great grill/smoker for the money.
I bought this grill from Costco when they were closing them out at a great price. Grill is great, holds temps steady for along time. Thermometer isn't too accurate, so I got a remote unit. Love it!
I have this grill about 9 months and love it! Really does anything well, but prime rib is truly outstanding! Temperature control is very easy once you get use to using the grill. Thermometer is ok, but I will likely replace with a better version soon.

When will my item arrive?
Once shipped, items usually arrive within 3-5 business days. While UPS and FedEx are our carriers for smaller items, be aware that larger items and orders are shipped via freight. The freight process is a bit more complicated than what we've all come to expect for small parcels, so it's important that you're prepared and understand what's required of you well before delivery day.
- Most freight products ship on a pallet
- Some carriers will call to schedule a delivery window, while others will deliver the shipment to a reasonably accessible location closest to your residence (their goal is to deliver as near a garage door as they can).
- We'll specify which process you can expect in your shipping confirmation email.
For carriers that schedule delivery appointments:
Carriers that schedule delivery appointments require you to be home for delivery and provide your signature. The delivery is made with a semi-truck with lift gate services, and the shipment is dropped off at the curb. If you authorize the shipping company to leave the delivery without a signature, BBQGuys can't be held responsible for damages that occur during delivery. As complicated as this process may seem, we've only scratched the surface here — please review our detailed guide to freight delivery so there are no surprises when a freight shipment heads your way.
For carriers that deliver without an appointment:
Carriers that deliver without an appointment don't require you to be home or set up a delivery window, and you aren't required to sign for the pallet(s). Instead of scheduling an appointment, arranging your schedule to be home for the delivery, and signing to confirm receipt, you can sit back and let your items come to you. If you're home at the time of the drop-off, you can request the driver place your delivery in the garage; if you're out of the house, the driver will leave it near the garage or doorstep.
