Kamado Joe has partnered with Desora, a tech company specializing in smart kitchen software, to create the iKamand II. The iKamand II is a smart BBQ controller that gives you full control of your Kamado Joe all from your smart device. The device attaches to the bottom vent of your kamado and controls the airflow in your grill with the iKamand app. From the app, you can start, stop, monitor and change your cook with ease. Grill or smoke using your own temperature and cook time, or choose from a variety of recipes included with the app. When an iKamand recipe is chosen, the cook time and temperature is automatically loaded to cook your food perfectly. The app also features constantly updated content, such as videos, tutorials and posts that will keep your kamado grillmastery at its peak. The iKamand starts up quickly and operates quietly. The device is also designed to hold up to four (4) temperature probes and to be weather resistant. All metal components are made of stainless steel. This model fits Kamado Joe Classic grills.

Confused about the poor ratings

I've owned/used an iKamand for about 5 months. I do a cook nearly weekly and I can honestly say, the iKamand has made life so easy it's almost like cheating. I have used it for low-n-slow briskets and ribs and it works amazingly well. I can sit back, monitor my smartphone and feel comfortable leaving the cook undisturbed the entire time. I absolutely love this product. Buying a second one for my Joe Jr.

Nice if it works

I got 6 whole cooks out of this rather expensive accessory….cook number 7, it won't power on. Very disappointing after I had to modify the mount bracket since it didn't fit in the Original Big Joe. Now I guess I have to order a new bracket

Disappointing

I bought my iKamand approximately 1 year ago. I used it only a few times because every time I do, I have to log in and go through the on line set up process. It may be because I don't use it with frequency but note sure. Also, the meat prove stopped working on the second use. I may not be the most tech savvy person but for the price I paid I expected a better interface and quality. Another thing is that the power cord is far to short.

Worst buy of my life

I bought this two months ago. Product registered and linked to my phone ok-ish after second attempt, BUT then on the next several occasions when I tried to use it, I had to re register the device on my phone each time, which was tedious. After about the forth re-register it seemed to stay registered for the next few occasions. Temp control during cook is good, PROVIDED the iKamand can continuously link to the Kamodo Joe/Desora server. Unfortunately, despite good WiFi/internet for the iKamand, it frequently loses connection with the server. This means it cannot control anything until it restores that connection - a situation that is not in the user's control. In the last week, I am have had to re register the device with my phone again on several occasions. On the last occasion, it suddenly needed to be re registered mid-way through a cook! How frustrating. I notice somebody else's review that as an engineer they would expect better temperature control. As an electrical engineer myself my views are: - why would you design a product to be dependent on an internet Desora server, when their is no real time input required from that server. Occasion connect for firmware update would be fine, but each cook does not need to be subject to the vagaries of an unreliable server connection. - it needs to be frequently re registered with the phone, including mid way during a cooking session. - temperature control during the cook is good, when its working - but its workings are unreliable! The device is so unreliable I put it in the bin. What a stupid, stupid design. (And by the way, this is the first time in my life that I have bother to have a moan about a product - that's how disappointed I am. Hopefully this saves somebody else from wasting their hard earned cash)

Holding temperature

I always had trouble holding the temp, but with iKamand it holds the temp. So i not running out to check the temp on a long slow cook.

Avoid the iKamand

Confessions of a KJ fanboy. I've had my iKamand for about 8 months. Worked generally well for the first 6 months or so, with some minor connection issues. I typically smoke about once per month (but use my Big Joe for grilling constantly). Then, at about the 6-month mark, the food probe stopped working. Then about a month or so later, the unit stopped connecting. I have tried and tried to troubleshoot, but to no avail. I get the "your iKamand wasn't registered at the factory" error, which is odd because it used to work fine. VERY DISAPPOINTED! Good slim design, and when it worked, it was great. Like many of the other reviewers here, I cannot recommend this product given the unreliability and price point.

Excellent add to the Kamado Joe

I love this little device. It connects via wi-if and a smartphone app. It assists in starting your fire, monitors fire temp plus it has a probe for food temp probe as well. Temps compared very well with the grill lid gauge. I have had very good results using the iKamand 2. Alas, 18 months of use and now I can't get the app and the device to connect. Not sure where to trouble lies but if I have to, I'll buy another one.

Will not connect

Lasted less than a year and, after being stored for a season, now, after many tries following the directions exactly, it will not complete setup. It is now useless and has been an expensive and frustrating experience.

Works Great - When It Works

This device is a great concept and I hope they continue to improve it. I love being able to see and control the temperature from my phone. I love the ease of starting the unit, when it works. What I don't like is that the device only works half the time. It forgets my WIFI settings and may or may not reconnect. It can only be connected to one phone, period. This means if my husband uses it connected to his phone, I have to go through the entire setup process to use it on mine, even if he is not home. Currently I'm trying to do a full rest to get it to connect...again.

Ruined more cooks than improved them

2.4ghz WiFi connection already makes this product a headache to use with modern networks, but the decision to have the fans kick on 100% when a connection is lost, is absolutely asinine. A quick blip in internet connection has completely botched about half the low and slow cooks I've done because I realize that the connection dropped and the fan has run up the temp 100 degrees in a matter of minutes.
