It really is a money saver too

I have a ton of experience grilling and smoking for 30 years and was a bbq judge for 3 years. I know good barbecue. I have had many gas grills, electric smokers and charcoal grills. They all have their pros and cons, but there was always at least one thing missing from each. I started appreciating charcoal and stick burning more and more.I live in Canada where summers are warm but winters are too cold to have an electric or thin metal charcoal smoker. I had tasted many foods at competitions from Kamado style cookers and knew they were good. I did my research and decided that the Broil King Keg was the best value. Now, I have used it 30 times since and I am totally impressed with it as both a smoker and and grill. The convection style cooking retains moisture better than anything I've used before. But the absolute best thing is, I hardly use any charcoal or wood . It is an efficient beast...I used to go thorough so much fuel and as weather got colder it became impractical to use. Not with the Steel Keg, it is so well insulated that it retains it's heat. All that equals money saving on fuel. I recommend the Broil King Keg highly.

Fantastic BBQ

Had not used charcoal for over 30 years, and it is great to be back and using the Keg. The insulated construction seems to be very efficient, based on charcoal left over after cooking. Could be a bit larger in diameter.

Love this grill!

I bought this during a sale at the Home Depot early in the summer. I am so glad that I took the chance on this product. It is a fantastic product that has me always thinking what I can try to cook on it next! Great for smoking at low temps or opening the dampers and BBQ steak. I loaded it for a five hour rib smoke and the next day used the same coals to cook a steak at high heat. I highly recommend the diffuser kit as well. Worth every penny I spent on it.

Amazing Grilling

I purchased this product a few months ago. It is well constructed and assembly was simple. I have been very impressed with the efficiency and flexibility. For low and slow smoking or extremely hot grilling it handles both equally well. I am continuoulsy amazed at how fuel efficient it is. I can do a six hour smoke on one load of charcoal and have plenty left over for high temp (600+) gilling of steaks the next day. This is one purchase that I am definitely getting my monies worth out of.

Need more time

Still getting used to my Keg after using a natural gas Broil King which lasted over 20 years. Finding it more of a challenge than I expected getting the temperature right especially when using the Diffuser kit. I managed to burn the first rack of pork ribs (where the recipe called for an unbelievable 4 hours) and did a lamb joint for almost 3 hours on the V rack with the drip tray AND diffuser in place which came out undercooked. Have had more success with simple grilling of fish and steaks An ongoing project I think. Ask me again in a years time.

Best ever!!!

Tough And durable for kamando cooking.....very capable of temps 200 degrees and up and holds temp spot on. Living in a winter climate was looking for something that was insulated enough to cook in cold weather, does the job very nicely. Will purchase again in 10 - 15 years when this one wears out

Awesome ribs

I will start by telling you i haven't done a lot of outdoor grilling, but I loved the ribs at the restaurant, but always hated paying the priced for my favorite meat. In summary, I will never eat ribs away from home again. If low and slow is what you are looking for, this is it. I have only had the Keg for a few months, but this is now the weekend activity of choice. I like to weight and the fact that it can be easily moved on the large wheels. The detachable side tables make cleanup extremely easy. The outside smooth metal finish also aids in the cleanup process. I bought too much charcoal, because the Keg hardly uses any for a 6 hour cook. We have done pizza, steaks, turkey, chicken, ribs. If prices come down, I plan on a large brisket next. If you are a new comer, this will be the first and last pit you buy.

Best I've ever had

3 weeks into this "KEG" and couldn't be happier with the quality of my cooking lol.. I don't know how you could make a bad dinner using this great product. I must admit, it is actually enjoyable cooking on a grill again. Never will I go back to a gas BBQ. Thank You Broil King, you made one happy griller here!! Cheers:)

Charcoal is nothing to be afraid of.

I bought the keg to replace an old Broil King Porta-chef that I had been using as my main grill for about ten years. I was a bit uneasy about switching to charcoal as I had been using propane exclusively since I've owned a barbecue. My first test was to season the grill as instructed - just to see how it heated up and if the temperature was east to control. The charcoal took a while to get hot enough, but the damper control doesn't really take a lot of fiddling to get accustomed to. On a friend's recommendation, I bought a charcoal chimney. That made a big difference in the heat up time. It's almost as fast a standard gas grill to get to grilling (like steaks and burgers) heat now. It grills just fine and there's decent room on the grilling surface itself. I mention the grilling because my understanding is these types of barbecues are designed for low, slow rib and brisket duty. It grills like a champ and gets to temperature no problem. All that said, it's the charcoal flavour that most impresses me. With the dampers keeping the heat where you want it and the lid closed tightly, you tend to get a nice smoker effect as a result. Even something that cooks quickly, like hamburgers, gets a nice flavour from the charcoal. Like wow nice! Gas doesn't compare for taste. What a difference! As for the keg's design, The thick insulated walls hold the heat in and the damper control can be turned down quite a ways and you still have enough heat to grill easily. This results in this barbecue being very efficient with the charcoal. I't's surprising how much is left after cooking a meal. I'm still not familiar enough to figure out how much is needed, so I just load it up. The next time I use it, I pull the grill up and reload the chimney with the leftovers and top it up with some fresh charcoal. Yes it's pricey, but so far it looks like I'm spending less on charcoal than I was on propane, and the taste with charcoal is just amazing. As for value for the dollar, similarly styled grills are usually more expensive and mostly smaller. If you're looking for a "Komado" style grill, this is the best deal for price vs. size. Yes you'll pay less for an uninsulated charcoal grill of similar size, but I believe this to be a lot more versatile and efficient. Not to mention is looks pretty cool too. I will be making more than steaks, brats and burgers soon. I have the diffuser now, so I will be experimenting with the low and slow heat this thing was made for. A roast chicken is next and ribs will be soon too. I really like it. :)

Perfect for charcoal cooking period

Just bought was using a weber performer grill and was happy but always dirty and use of fuel was enormous. First cook on the Keg was roast chickens and pork tenderloin with clean hands easy to spark up and temperature was much more consistent than the weber smoking was good and with the dyfuser the meat was totally off direct heat..... Let me tell you the meat was the absolute juiciest and best I have eaten flavourful land downed to perfection This is the grill I should have started with but was afraid due to the cost but I wish I would have purchased sooner simply clean, simple and delicious

When will my item arrive?

Once shipped, items usually arrive within 3-5 business days. While UPS and FedEx are our carriers for smaller items, be aware that larger items and orders are shipped via freight. The freight process is a bit more complicated than what we've all come to expect for small parcels, so it's important that you're prepared and understand what's required of you well before delivery day.

  • Most freight products ship on a pallet
  • Some carriers will call to schedule a delivery window, while others will deliver the shipment to a reasonably accessible location closest to your residence (their goal is to deliver as near a garage door as they can).
  • We'll specify which process you can expect in your shipping confirmation email.

For carriers that schedule delivery appointments:

Carriers that schedule delivery appointments require you to be home for delivery and provide your signature. The delivery is made with a semi-truck with lift gate services, and the shipment is dropped off at the curb. If you authorize the shipping company to leave the delivery without a signature, BBQGuys can't be held responsible for damages that occur during delivery. As complicated as this process may seem, we've only scratched the surface here — please review our detailed guide to freight delivery so there are no surprises when a freight shipment heads your way.

For carriers that deliver without an appointment:

Carriers that deliver without an appointment don't require you to be home or set up a delivery window, and you aren't required to sign for the pallet(s). Instead of scheduling an appointment, arranging your schedule to be home for the delivery, and signing to confirm receipt, you can sit back and let your items come to you. If you're home at the time of the drop-off, you can request the driver place your delivery in the garage; if you're out of the house, the driver will leave it near the garage or doorstep.
