Holds temp in even bad weather. Buy this smoker.

I purchased this Backwoods G3 from BBQ Guys and it was to my door in less than 10 days. I was anxious to try it out but with cold windy weather in the forecast I was worried about performance so I decided to run a test. On a cold Saturday, 30 degrees and 20 to 30mph wind gusts I set up the smoker outside and put a small batch of coal in. It held it's temp at 150F without any problem so I set up a full tray of charcoal and wood and dumped in about half chimney of lit coals. All told it was probably 6 or 7 pounds total of charcoal. Then I filled the water tray with the hottest water my sink could put out. Within half an hour the G3 was sitting at 225 degrees despite the wind and cold. I made two racks of baby backs and about 12 chicken thighs for my first cook, in weather that my previous offset smoker could never have performed in. It held 225 to 250 for 8 hours. If you're considering this smoker I would not hesitate to buy.

Backwoods chubby g3

I purchased the g3 chubby about a month ago I was a little skeptical because it is made overseas but I figured I would try it. So I received it in a timely manner it was packaged well no damage set it up with my fireboard to control the heat and did a burn off ran it at .I must say I was impressed this thing came up to temp in 35 min and ran perfect when set at 225 it got no hotter than 230 and no lower than 218 .I did talk to backwoods before and they gave me some tricks as far as water pan goes they are wonderful to deal with. So I have done 2 pork butt a short rib plate and a 12lb brisket everything was spectacular the only thing I wish it had was a port for cables other than that it's great

Question:
My question pertains to the usage of this particular smoker I have used a much smaller smoker for many years (Brinkman, very inexpensive) with a very limited cooking area, I now am interested in upgrading to a smoker with more cooking space for holiday parties. With my smoker backstory considered, is a larger smoker good in all applications, for example if I only was smoking just one brisket instead of a several different cuts of meat or should I consider something smaller?

Answer:
Hi Keith. We would always suggest using the largest model that will fit your space. It is better to have more space than you need than not enough.

When will my item arrive?

Once shipped, items usually arrive within 3-5 business days. While UPS and FedEx are our carriers for smaller items, be aware that larger items and orders are shipped via freight. The freight process is a bit more complicated than what we’ve all come to expect for small parcels, so it’s important that you’re prepared and understand what’s required of you well before delivery day.

  • Most freight products ship on a pallet
  • Some carriers will call to schedule a delivery window, while others will deliver the shipment to a reasonably accessible location closest to your residence (their goal is to deliver as near a garage door as they can).
  • We’ll specify which process you can expect in your shipping confirmation email.

For carriers that schedule delivery appointments:

Carriers that schedule delivery appointments require you to be home for delivery and provide your signature. The delivery is made with a semi-truck with lift gate services, and the shipment is dropped off at the curb. If you authorize the shipping company to leave the delivery without a signature, BBQGuys can’t be held responsible for damages that occur during delivery. As complicated as this process may seem, we’ve only scratched the surface here — please review our detailed guide to freight delivery so there are no surprises when a freight shipment heads your way.

For carriers that deliver without an appointment:

Carriers that deliver without an appointment don’t require you to be home or set up a delivery window, and you aren’t required to sign for the pallet(s). Instead of scheduling an appointment, arranging your schedule to be home for the delivery, and signing to confirm receipt, you can sit back and let your items come to you. If you’re home at the time of the drop-off, you can request the driver place your delivery in the garage; if you’re out of the house, the driver will leave it near the garage or doorstep.
