Can a Kamado Grill Be Indestructible? Spoiler Alert: Yes
Simply put, the Blaze Kamado offers superior durability to ceramic kamados the traditional material for this grill type for a lifetime of grilling. How? Its all in the cast aluminum alloys that contain very little iron, which results in a rust-proof design strongly resistant to the elements. And unlike ceramic, cast aluminum allows you to use any type of charcoal, wood, or lighting materials without the worry of it causing damage or being absorbed into the grill body. Oh, theres more: you wont need to shell out extra money to replace the top exhaust cap, a commonly faulty component on ceramic kamados. Everything comes together to create the most durable kamado on the market.
Maximum Heat Retention for Maximum Flavor
Being virtually indestructible is one thing, but we know you care about cooking power most of all. The Blaze Kamado delivers with heavy-duty, 304-grade stainless steel cooking grates that measure 12mm in thickness to retain huge amounts of heat for an excellent sear. By shaping the grates hexagonally, Blaze gives food more surface contact with the cooking surface, in turn producing bolder sear marks for wonderfully caramelized flavor. And instead of using a felt gasket like the competition, this cast aluminum kamado utilizes a tongue-and-groove seal. The design eliminates the need to fix a damaged gasket another commonly replaced kamado component and also provides an exceptional seal that prevents precious heat and smoke from escaping mid-cook. More heat and more smoke in the grill mean tastier food on your plate.
Easier Grilling & Cleaning
That 20 diameter cooking grate we were going on about earlier? Well, its hinged on both sides so you can easily add wood or charcoal without removing food and lifting the entire grate. Blaze also included a mid-level, 18 cooking grate that allows you to cook closer to the fire for more intense heat (its also a good spot to place a drip pan or a heat deflector for indirect cooking).
The Blaze Kamados lid hinge is made from 304-grade stainless steel and features a convenient lift-assist function for easy opening and closing. At the bottom of the firebox, youll find a removable stainless steel ash pan with handles for hassle-free cleanup. A large temperature gauge with markings for smoking, roasting, and searing is mounted in the lid, letting you easily monitor cooking temperatures as you entertain. The grill also includes cast aluminum feet so you can safely stabilize it in your outdoor kitchen island, should you choose to use it off the cart. And as one final show of care, this kamado grill comes with high-heat cooking gloves are for safe handling.
EXTRA! Turn your kamado into a rotisserie with Blazes optional rotisserie kit.

Franmom Middleton, WI | ★★★★★ ★★★★★ 5.0 After a year as a newbie smokerI looked around and decided to get the Blaze Kamado because of the aluminum construction and stainless steel components. I would definitely buy it again just for that. I can say that most of the challenges have been from not having much experience smoking, and the Blaze has been very forgiving. It holds temps well and cleans up like a dream. I just throw everything in the dishwasher, scrape down the sides into the ash pan to easily lift out and, ready to go again. I got the half moon stainless deflector plates and the rotisserie kit. I can use the rotisserie drip pan for a water bath for long smokes. After having given up all hope to become a master, I bought a temp controller and blower fan with a universal adapter and was able to find a company that makes a universal receiver that fits the Blaze. My husband rigged a basket that fits perfectly so I can just lift out the unused charcoal, which would be really messy otherwise. So that would be one area for improvement, as it took a long time to research optimizing and I am not sure everyone would have the time to find the gadgets here and there to make it work. But it was worth it. The only other thing I wish I had was better access to the bottom with a bigger vent. I would love to slip in a tray so I can add wood chips during a smoke. If this ever came out with a larger size and more accessories, I bet one of my kids would be ecstatic to get this as a hand-me-down because I wouldn't be able to resist. | Was This Helpful? |
me FL | ★★★★★ ★★★★★ 5.0 Don't touch the truck, dog or grill the wife you will bringThere is a learning curve. I could set it to run 180 for as long as my heart desires. I smoke, broil rotisserie you name it you can do it. Close the air vents and reuse the charcoal. Very efficient, it has serial number on the bottom, I carved my name and phone number with a hammer and a screwdriver when I was smoking. I have been a full time camper for 2 yrs very durable can't see how anyone could not love this. Only con is if it is 400 on the inside it is 400 on the outside. I have used this in Pa too Florida It is heavy. | Was This Helpful? |
AK Coachie South Central AK | ★★★★★ ★★★★★ 5.0 Modern tech meets Kamado for the winThis grill is a work of art, indestructible and works like a charm. The fit and finish is 5 star, machining is aircraft quality. It was a treat for me and it's well worth every penny. It holds heat like a Boss and I mean it. I bought in November of 2021 and have only used it in Alaskan winter. it is the real deal. 100% would recommend. It's between sizes of a "Green Egg Large and XL. Plenty bog enough for Turkey, Prime Rib, Brisket of smaller items for 6-8. Can't wait to get the rotisserie kit and the indirect charcoal basket. I have the stainless handles and the stainless rolling cart. They are equally as well made. Forget the price and buy this grill. put it on your homeowners insurance and in your will because it will outlast you. | Was This Helpful? |
Shekkis Grafton, Ohio | ★★★★★ ★★★★★ 5.0 Zero regrets......only wish I bought it sooner!I will not besmirch my prior ceramic kamado grill as it served me well for many years BUT I am glad I no longer have to worry about cracking fireboxes, flaking glaze and rusty steel bands. This Blaze Kamado is bombproof. Period. Maintaining and adjusting temperature is a breeze like any other kamado after a brief learning curve. I have zero issues maintaining 225 all day on a single load, 550 for pizza cooks and even 700 for a short time as a "self cleaning" mode. I have seen some concerns about maintaining temps in the cold or during rain but I have had zero issues. I find no downsides to this aluminum kamado vs. it's ceramic counterparts. It may cost a bit more but for me it was worth it for the heavy duty build........the hinge, grates, vents are all a step above in quality and stoutness. Not much else to say, simply a fantastic kamado......great job Blaze! ******I did have a warranty issue with my main cooking grate shortly after purchase (a failed weld) and a replacement was sent to me with zero hassle. I am less concerned about the issue (things happen) than I am with how the company dealt with it and I gotta say they were outstanding. | Was This Helpful? |
Martin Undisclosed Verified Purchaser | ★★★★★ ★★★★★ 5.0 Very happy with purchaseThis is my first Kamado and first charcoal grill. I have been able to both grill and smoke and have a solid base to learn on. The grill is ridiculously sturdy, easy to clean and just a great piece of equipment | Was This Helpful? |

Maestro45 Tulsa | ★★★★★ ★★★★★ 5.0 Best grill ever! This is by far the best grill I have ever used! It makes grilling so easy for the perfect family cookout! Can't wait to do a slow and low cook on it as it definitely holds temps more steady than any other grill I have used. I would absolutely buy this grill again, but definitely will not have to because of its indestructible construction! | Was This Helpful? |

Andy Mattawan, MI Verified Reviewer | ★★★★★ ★★★★★ 5.0 Love my Kamado, been using for 4 yearsthis Kamado is an absolute stud! I have been using it for over 4 years and have had no problems with it and it still looks brand new. Can't recommend enough. | Was This Helpful? |
tmoneyinheaven Morgantown WV | ★★★★★ ★★★★★ 5.0 Last grill you'll ever need to buyI spent months researching kamado grills, even bought a small ceramic that was on sale for $200 before investing a ton of money in "The Real McCoy" to see that I would like a kamado at all over a gas or other charcoal grills I've used in the past. I finally bit the bullet and took the plunge. A few factors that made this my clear choice before buying it and falling deeper in love with it... #1 I was looking at the kamado joe 24" and the weight was just shy of 500lbs, I plan on moving in a couple years that's not something I want to lug around. The blaze is only about 170lbs. #2 in under a year my small ceramic was due to need new gaskets. The old ones had already worn out. The blaze doesn't use gaskets, it has a tongue and groove seals completely. #3 The blaze comes with a lifetime warranty, also in just under a year the fire bowl cracked on my ceramic grill. When I contacted the company they said that it didn't cover cracked Ceramic, they just informed me that it was probably from the grill cooling to quickly and I was responsible for the replacement. This leads to #4 the blaze doesn't use a fire bowl it just has three rows of grates, the lower for charcoal, the middle mainly for a heat deflector and the top one is self explanatory, this means wall to wall useable space. On my 15" ceramic only 13" was able to be used for a cook surface, you don't have to worry about your food hanging over the edge of the fire bowl and not getting even heat distribution or a mess running down the sides of the fire bowl. Lastly, cleaning the ash out is a breeze because the whole bottom is covered by a removable ash pan. I say last but that's just the last thing that was a deciding factor before I bought it. I've found many reasons it is a superior Cooker. Yes "cooker" because it's not just a grill or a smoker, it's extremely versatile, I use it for high heat searing, low and slow smoking, I got a pizza steel and it's a great pizza oven, and even do stuff in my dutch oven. | Was This Helpful? |

Back to TopThe Skinny:
- Industry first, solid cast aluminum kamado grill
- Best in class lifetime warranty inside and out
- Incredible cooking performance
- Virtually indestructible
- Beautifully blends with your stainless outdoor kitchen equipment
Things We Love:
If you've always wanted a ceramic kamado, but have been concerned about their potential for cracking or breaking, you can absolutely put away your fears with this Blaze Kamado! This grill is virtually indestructible and could literally last forever. It's made of an industry first, solid cast aluminum, and their slogan could not be more appropriate - this kamado is "just that tough"! You can even take it camping or tailgating without fear and cringing over every bump in the road. I also just love the way this grill looks! With it's beautiful silver finish and 304 stainless accents, it will seamlessly blend with the rest of your stainless steel equipment in your outdoor kitchen.
If you've read my other reviews or watched any of my videos, you know how much I love kamado cooking. As far as cooking performance, this Blaze Kamado is right up there with the best of them! Heat retention is one of the most important features of a kamado grill, which are known for holding their temperature during long cooks, and the Blaze kamado is no exception. I found the thick cast aluminum walls to hold heat just as well as the ceramic kamados I've cooked on for years. I also like the unique tongue-and-groove design, which seals the grill lid tight to the base, allowing very little to no heat escape. Ceramic kamados utilize a gasket to achieve their seal but those gaskets need replacing from time to time. Along with the solid heat retention, the heat control is top notch. The lower air intake features a multi-function door with a dial for precise control and the built-in, cast aluminum top air vent, allows you to easily set the vent opening, and it stays put even when lifting the lid.
Speaking of lifting the lid, 304 series stainless steel lift-assist hinges allow for very easy opening. You can really feel the difference if you've lifted other kamado lids, which tend be be bulky and kinda heavy.
Under the hood, you'll find a 20-inch stainless steel hex grill grate. The grate is made of 12mm 304-grade stainless steel, providing amazing heat retention and a large surface area for beautiful sear marks. The grates also feature two hinged sections, which makes adding charcoal or wood chunks a breeze. Underneath this main cooking grid is an 18 inch, equally thick, 304 stainless steel, multi-purpose grate. You can actually cook food on this grate and the top grate at the same time, which almost doubles your cooking space, or you can set a pan of liquid or a heat deflector on it when indirect cooking. Under the multi-purpose grate is an equally thick, 304 stainless steel charcoal grate. When it's time to clean out the ashes, I love the full width, lift out ash pan. That pan is certainly more convenient and effective than scraping out the ashes on a regular ceramic kamado.
Another neat benefit of the Blaze Kamado's cast aluminum construction, is that it can handle any fuel source, even regular charcoal briquettes and lighter fluid, unlike ceramic kamados with their porous nature. Personally, I would always recommend cooking with lump charcoal but it is nice to know you can use briquettes and lighter fluid in a pinch.
As for accessories, the rotisserie accessory with separate charcoal basket is an awesome add-on and I like how the 304 stainless steel side shelves are so sturdy.
Finally, I love this grill's warranty. The Blaze Kamado is backed by a best in class lifetime warranty on all of the grill's components - that's all components inside and out. I'm not sure how it's possible to break anything on this grill, but you can have confidence in knowing that Blaze will stand behind your grill for a lifetime.
Things To Consider:
While the full width ash pan is a nice and effective feature, you have to remove all three grates in order to lift it out for clean up.
You'll Like This Grill If:
If you want the toughest kamado grill on the market, backed by a best in class lifetime warranty, that looks and cooks great too.

Questions & Answers (10)
Back to TopQuestion: What is the size hole I should have for it to fit in my outdoor kitchen. Was This Helpful? Answer: Hi Bmex. While the Blaze Kamado has a 22-inch diameter, it will require a larger diameter opening to allow for air circulation around it. Also, if you plan to add the optional rotisserie kit at a later date, that will change the measurement to 27 inches.
However, the easiest way to make sure you have the correct spacing is to use the Blaze Kamado Sleeve: www.bbqguys.com/blaze/built-in-34-inch-kamado-sleeve-with-drawer-blz-kmdo-slv-lt Asked by BmexAnswered by Wesley |
Question: I am curious as to where your new manufacturing partner is located. Part of my interest in your product is because you are an American company and I assumed all your components were American made. Was This Helpful? Answer: Hi Glenn. The Blaze Kamado is made in China. Asked by GlennAnswered by Joey, BBQGuys Expert Answer: As far as I understand all parts of the smoker are American made.
I have enjoyed it very much since I purchased.

Question: Unlike the ceramic grills that have seals at the junction of lid and bottom, the aluminum is cast with a lipped junction in order to seal in smoke and heat. But I am wondering how that works when using a wired thermometer. Unlike ceramic where a wire is simply sandwiched flat between soft seals of lid and bottom, this appears to have no room for a wire, and if it does, it would appear to require the wire to fold and contour to meet the shape of the lid and bottom when joined. This seems like it would quickly ruin a wired thermometer. Any first hand experience on this? Was This Helpful? Answer: I have great news for you - this grill has an even better method for using a wired/wireless thermometer.
One of the reasons I selected this grill was because it comes with access for the use of a rotisserie. When you look at the grill on the left side as you are looking at it you will notice that there is a small cap screwed into the grill. That is for connecting the rod to the motor.
That access hole will allow you to slip the wire into the grill and into the meat - there is no need for the "wire to fold and contour to meet the shape of the lid and bottom when joined".
We have smoked a lot of meat and the only problem I encountered was that I realized that I knew nothing about smoking meat and had to learn. Afterwards it has been great.
Love this Komoto grill - the best and highly recommend it
By the way, it does weigh about 180 pounds.
Dom Asked by KarlAnswered by dfernan1 Answer: It does exactly what you are describing. I started dropping mine through the top vent. Getting ready to go wirelessSent via the Samsung Galaxy S21 5G, an AT&T 5G smartphone Asked by KarlAnswered by vlbzsmith Answer: You are correct on the lid. However, this model has a whole (Capped) that the rotisserie goes through that provides direct access to the inside. This hole can be used for a wired thermometer as well. I've even used both simultaneously. Plenty of room to pass either end of the wired thermometer without having to pass through the lid. Asked by KarlAnswered by alanjhanke Answer: There is a tiny hole drilled into the Blaze kamado which allows you run a thermometer in if you like. The grill temp thermometer is built in. Asked by KarlAnswered by bobandy Answer: Hi Karl
The Blaze unit has a screw plug on the left side to allow wires to enter the grill just below the top grate. I use the Flame Boss device to control temperature all the time with no issue. Hope this helps, reach out if you need more info.

Question: Hi there! I spoke with a Blaze rep about a week ago and she indicated a new shipment of the Blaze Kamado was en route to the US from a new manufacturing partner overseas. I was just wondering if BBQGuys expects to restock this item, and if so, if there is any expected date when that might happen? Thanks! Was This Helpful? Answer: Hi Bryce, we are expecting to receive stock of the Blaze kamados this year, unfortunately, we don't have an ETA for shipments as of yet. Asked by BryceAnswered by Ryan |
Question: Putting this in an outdoor kitchen. What is the dimension from bottom of stand to bottom of hinge so that I can get the correct height on the countertop Was This Helpful? Answer: Hi Jeff. From feet to hinge is roughly 20 inches. You can get an idea of the dimensions here: cdn.shocho.co/sc-specsheets/Kamado-Grill-User-Manual-04-2019.pdf Asked by JeffAnswered by BBQGuys Expert |
Question: Is the outside hot to the touch when in use or like a ceramic Kamado that you could touch without being burned? Also is there any reason the grill cannot be installed into an island with a granite cut out like in the third picture in your website? Was This Helpful? Answer: Hi Bill! The outside of the grill will be hot when in use, please use high heat gloves. The grill can be installed using non-combustible materials only, so a granite cut out would be fine. Asked by BillAnswered by Tiffany |
Question: Can I fit a 15 - 18 lb turkey in this? How about a full bone in prime rib? Was This Helpful? Answer: Hey! It is large enough to cover that size turkey, people have claimed to have fit two turkeys. I would just say for the prime rib, you would not want it to be too long, so it may need to be split in half. Hope this information helps! Asked by DuxsmithAnswered by Luke |
Question: Does the mid-level 18-inch cooking grate have an hinged option like the 20-inch top grate? Reason is it's a little tough sometimes to get the grate seated correctly as well as getting it back out.
If it doesn't, I encourage Blaze to consider this a great option to offer. Was This Helpful? Answer: Hi Robert. No, only the 20-inch top grate is hinged. Asked by RobertAnswered by Joey |
Question: Hello, I recently purchased this item and will be installing it in an outdoor kitchen. My question / concern is the amount of heat that will be generated below the counter top as I plan to have the bottom of the unit completely inside of the island to avoid a kiddo from touching while hot (with a door to adjust lower damper). I see this installed using this method but want to ensure a long slow cook will not damage the kitchen or cause any other unsafe conditions. Thanks! Was This Helpful? Answer: Hi Brett, the Kamado cannot be installed into combustible materials or it will start a fire. It can be safely installed into non combustible materials as long as there is a gap between the kamado and the counter/counter top. Asked by BrettAnswered by Kyle |
Question: In the Q&A comments, it is recommended that a minimum of 31" of depth is needed against a wall in order to open lid. Does this mean that the grill will stick out 6" in front from a standard 25" countertop depth? Was This Helpful? Answer: Hi, Amy. If the grill is centered in its cabinet, the lid will open about 6" past the edge of 25" deep countertops. Asked by AmyAnswered by Seth |

When will my item arrive?
Once shipped, items usually arrive within 3-5 business days. While UPS and FedEx are our carriers for smaller items, be aware that larger items and orders are shipped via freight. The freight process is a bit more complicated than what we’ve all come to expect for small parcels, so it’s important that you’re prepared and understand what’s required of you well before delivery day.
- Most freight products ship on a pallet
- Some carriers will call to schedule a delivery window, while others will deliver the shipment to a reasonably accessible location closest to your residence (their goal is to deliver as near a garage door as they can).
- We’ll specify which process you can expect in your shipping confirmation email.
For carriers that schedule delivery appointments:
Carriers that schedule delivery appointments require you to be home for delivery and provide your signature. The delivery is made with a semi-truck with lift gate services, and the shipment is dropped off at the curb. If you authorize the shipping company to leave the delivery without a signature, BBQGuys can’t be held responsible for damages that occur during delivery. As complicated as this process may seem, we’ve only scratched the surface here — please review our detailed guide to freight delivery so there are no surprises when a freight shipment heads your way.
For carriers that deliver without an appointment:
Carriers that deliver without an appointment don’t require you to be home or set up a delivery window, and you aren’t required to sign for the pallet(s). Instead of scheduling an appointment, arranging your schedule to be home for the delivery, and signing to confirm receipt, you can sit back and let your items come to you. If you’re home at the time of the drop-off, you can request the driver place your delivery in the garage; if you’re out of the house, the driver will leave it near the garage or doorstep.
