A sturdy latch securely seals the door shut and features a large viewing window with an external heat indicator to keep an eye on things, without sacrificing heat and smoke from breaking the seal. Firing up the Copperhead is hassle-free thanks to the automatic prime function, automatically igniting pellets using a 300-watt igniter and fan-forced draft. Program temperatures with ease using the front-panel control knob and monitor cabin temperature, programmed temperature and readouts for up to two wired meat probes (one meat probe is included) using the digital LED readout. The 60-pound capacity pellet hopper features a side-window for at-a-glance fuel level checking, a hinged access door for quick fill-up and a clean-out door to empty pellets for cleaning or changing flavors. A removable water pan mounted near the base of the cabinet can be filled with your favorite marinades to add more flavor and keep foods fall-off-the-bone tender. A grease tray catches drippings at the bottom of the smoker and slides out for easy cleanup. 2 front swivel casters, 2 rear locking swivel casters and a handle allow for easy placement and portability.

smoker So. Ill | ★★★★★ ★★★★★ 5.0 love itThe only thing I think they should change, is putting the control system in another place, get too many drippings on it after some time, you can't see the temp unless its dark outside, other than that I love this smoker | Was This Helpful? |
Geno F Gorham KS | ★★★★★ ★★★★★ 5.0 The best smoker I've ownedEach year I make between 400-800 pounds of sausage before Christmas and I've had 10 other smokers over the years. Some lasted 1-2 at the most, others were expensive to operate adding to the cost of the sausage. Some just didn't work well. With my new Pitt Boss and the large pellet hopper I fill and walk away till morning, no more getting up 2-3 times at night. Holds temperature very well. I can hang 60 pounds of sausage at once. | Was This Helpful? |
Grill Bear Delhi, Ontario, Canada Verified Purchaser | ★★★★★ ★★★★★ 5.0 Awesome Smoker!I was apprehensive about Pit Boss due to my perception of it being a budget grill. Yes, things could have a better fit, more robust wheels and legs. Though, the fact of the matter is this grill is clearly not meant to moved regularly. It is primarily a stationary appliance. All this being said, my PitBoss Vertical 7 smoker is absolutely amazing! Great for the long cooks, such as pork butt or Brisket! I had been having trouble mastering brisket and this grill gave me the leg up I needed! Having the water pan is great! I highly recommend this grill, you would be doing yourself a disservice to not check it out and give it a try! Great job Pit Boss team! This is a winner! | Was This Helpful? |
Robert Carr La Porte, TX | ★★★★★ ★★★★★ 5.0 Greatest grill everI owned my smoker two weeks and used it once. My brisket came out great. | Was This Helpful? |
The Little Guy Undisclosed | ★★★★★ ★★★★★ 5.0 Great ProductDebated between a vertical and grill style smoker. Chose the vertical and glad I did. There is plenty of room for adjustability to this smoker. Besides its good looks it has adjustable shelves so you set your own shelf heights. Temp regulator is very accurate and holds well even in cool and wet conditions. Overall great product. | Was This Helpful? |
Dave Greene Up State NY | ★★★★★ ★★★★★ 5.0 Best money spentHeavyweight and hi quality! I have smoked Italian sausage, St. Louis ribs, chicken wings, and beef brisket! All came out excellent. | Was This Helpful? |

Thepurp69 Schenectady NY Verified Purchaser | ★★★★★ ★★★★★ 5.0 Back handle brokeI bought the series 7 a two days ago was transferring it to camp and the back handle broke off. This my second vertical pit boss | Was This Helpful? |
AcFig El Paso, TX Verified Purchaser | ★★★★★ ★★★★★ 5.0 Warranty productI received the pro series V4 for Father's day. On Superbowl Sunday after smoking a 20lbs brisket over night, I decided to throw in some chicken wings for a smoked flavor. Well the bottom of my 4 series caught fire and burned down the control panel. Worked with Dansons to get the control panel fixed and the fan wouldn't start. After about 6 weeks of "frustration" and back and fourth I finally received my 7 series and let me tell you, it's a beast!! Finally back to smoking and I am enjoying the extra rack with plenty of more room for full sized ribs, brisket and more! | Was This Helpful? |
moscabo Milwaukee, WI | ★★★★★ ★★★★★ 5.0 Pit Boss Series 7This is the best smoker I've had yet. My 2nd smoker from Pit Boss, and I'm a huge fan. This thing is huge, maintains heat very well, and imparts a fantastic campfire flavor you just can't get from charcoal or gas. Warning, if you try this smoker, you'll never be satisfied with that kettle again. | Was This Helpful? |

Things We Love
Temperature-control Features
You can’t have low-and-slow cooking without consistently low temperatures. That’s why the guys at Pit Boss designed their Copperhead Series pellet smokers with easy-to-use controls that let you pinpoint exact heat levels within the 150–450-degree temperature range. When you’ve got guests to entertain or food to prepare, there’s nothing better than the 10 temperature presets and startup and cooldown cycles found on the Copperhead smokers.
It’s when you’re cooking, though, that these features really shine. Several components of these Pit Boss smokers — the external heat indicator, included meat probe with digital LED readouts, and large viewing window — allow you to stay informed without opening the door and letting precious heat or smoke escape (the sturdy door latch deserves some praise, too). If you need to open the door to show off the goods or just want an extra boost of flavorful smoke, there’s also a prime function that burns a new batch of pellets with a 300-watt ignitor and fan-forced draft.
Durable & Efficient Design
At this point, you might be wondering why Pit Boss calls these smokers Copperheads. It has nothing to do with snakes (no judgement if smoked snake is on the menu at your next cookout) — instead, the name comes from the beautiful hammertone copper finish of these pellet cookers. Underneath that attractive finish is a cold-rolled, double-walled steel body with high-heat coating, giving Copperhead Series smokers the durability for years of cooking.
But Pit Boss also values an efficient smoking experience, so Copperhead models come with a slide-out grease tray and ash pan for simple cleanup. Moving the smoker around is even easier thanks to two front swivel caster wheels and two more in the rear that can lock into place. For those who’d like to give water-smoking a try, the included water pan can be filled with marinades or other liquids to provide extra flavor and moisture. Trust us, you’ll want to give it a try.
Large-capacity Hopper
Did we mention these pellet smokers can cook a whole bunch of food? The two Copperhead Series models have different pellet capacities and cooking areas, but the smaller 3 Series edition shouldn’t be overlooked. With the Pit Boss Copperhead 3 Series, you get 800 square inches of cooking space across four adjustable racks and a hopper that can hold up to 35 pounds and smoke for 18 hours. The Pit Boss Copperhead 7 Series, meanwhile, boasts 2,059 square inches of cooking area, six porcelain-coated racks, a 60-pound hopper, and a smoke time of up to 24 hours!
No matter which model you choose, the hopper has a side window to check fuel levels, a hinge door for quick refills, and a clean-out door to empty the pellets or change flavors. Just keep in mind that the Copperhead Series works best with Pit Boss pellets.
Things to Consider
If your goal is to smoke at low temperatures for an extended period of time without refilling your fuel, the Pit Boss Copperhead Series is a great option for you. But we know you may have more questions about these smokers, which is why our BBQ experts are standing by at 1-877-743-2269 to help you make the right decision.

When will my item arrive?
Once shipped, items usually arrive within 3-5 business days. While UPS and FedEx are our carriers for smaller items, be aware that larger items and orders are shipped via freight. The freight process is a bit more complicated than what we’ve all come to expect for small parcels, so it’s important that you’re prepared and understand what’s required of you well before delivery day.
- Most freight products ship on a pallet
- Some carriers will call to schedule a delivery window, while others will deliver the shipment to a reasonably accessible location closest to your residence (their goal is to deliver as near a garage door as they can).
- We’ll specify which process you can expect in your shipping confirmation email.
For carriers that schedule delivery appointments:
Carriers that schedule delivery appointments require you to be home for delivery and provide your signature. The delivery is made with a semi-truck with lift gate services, and the shipment is dropped off at the curb. If you authorize the shipping company to leave the delivery without a signature, BBQGuys can’t be held responsible for damages that occur during delivery. As complicated as this process may seem, we’ve only scratched the surface here — please review our detailed guide to freight delivery so there are no surprises when a freight shipment heads your way.
For carriers that deliver without an appointment:
Carriers that deliver without an appointment don’t require you to be home or set up a delivery window, and you aren’t required to sign for the pallet(s). Instead of scheduling an appointment, arranging your schedule to be home for the delivery, and signing to confirm receipt, you can sit back and let your items come to you. If you’re home at the time of the drop-off, you can request the driver place your delivery in the garage; if you’re out of the house, the driver will leave it near the garage or doorstep.
