Still love my SG24 with Sidekick after a year

About 2 years ago I decided it was time to replace my old pellet smoker (not Camp Chef) that I had for several. Since I already had one I knew what specs I was looking for when doing my research. I looked at every pellet smoker/grill available with the following in mind: 1. High enough heat to sear a steak over wood for the flavor and get the gigantic propane grill off my deck. 2. Ability to open flame baffle for cooking over direct flame. 3. Easy removal of ash from pot and pellets from hopper. 4. Small propane area for cooking sides etc. 5. WIFI controller. Mainly to monitor temp. Not as much much for control. I admit I do have a couple issues but they are not deal breakers for me: 1. The WIFI controller works fine but the app is questionable. I should be able to connect my phone anytime during the cook but I can only connect before startup. There are some other issues with the app but I am confident they will be worked out over time(benefit of software). 2. DO NOT TAKE THE SIDEKICK GRIDDLE OVER 400F. The finish comes off. Of course that is in the user manual but my Dad taught me only read instructions when all else fails. 3. There are a couple spots that the paint is coming off, l suspect from some of my high heat cooks. 4. The lid doesn't seal as well as I would like so I put gasket material around it. I found everything I wanted in the SG24 with the Sidekick along with additional cooking area over my previous unit and at a decent price compared to others. Number 5 wasn't available at time but my wife told me they would have it if I waited awhile...I couldn't although I did upgrade the controller a few months ago. I would have no problem recommending the SG24 for someone wanting to get into pellet cooking.

Simply Awesome

Been using this for over a year and its been working great. The sidekick is a great addition over competitors. Also comes with a bunch of other accessories that would cost extra elsewhere.

Easy to use and assemble

Love how easy this grill is to use. Assembly wasn't very difficult, if you can handle a screw driver, you should be able to assemble this grill. The foam used to pack everything is annoying, it gets all over the course surface... a air compressor to blow the foam off is helpful. Made wings and pork tenderloin so far... turned out great!!

Does not get ANY better

I've had the Woodwind and sear box now for a few years. I live in the Midwest so grilling in the winter isn't easy. The Woodwind is a game changer. I love to grill, even below zero, and it's so nice to just go outside and flip a switch and have it watm up and be able to get that smokey flavor. Slow cooking a steak and then throw it on the sear box for a mintue...awesome. Have cooked many pizzas right on the grill. But the best part, Camp Chef. They are like family. plenty of recipes and if you ever has an issue, they are right there to help, even years down the road. I know people who have bought Green Mountain and Traeger grills, I'd take my Woodwind hands down!

Woodwind SG 24

Great smoker! Sold my Traeger after using this a couple times. Sear Box is a game changer for finishing up steaks, burgers, chicken etc. Mine came damaged, the hopper was pushed in on one side but I don't believe that was Camp Chef's fault and I was able to bend it back where it's not real noticeable.

After two weeks very happy

I had to wait two weeks to use it due to outside commitments but so far this grill has lived up to it's reputation. Really not hard to put assemble, less than an hour and a half. Have only cooked burgers and steaks but both were exceptional. Easy to operate and the Searer Box is a must.

Absolutely Awesome

This thing is AWESOME! so far I've smoked a brisket, smoked and seared pork shops, smoked and seared drum sticks and all have tasted amazing. i love the little recipe booklet that comes with it, which I've used twice and both times the food has come out great. the wood pellets last much longer than i thought they would as well. a brisket for 6 hours at med heat only used a little over a quarter of the hopper. i have fell in love with this thing.

Best Smoker, worth every penny!!

Love this smoker, all I have to do is season or marinade the meat turn on the smoker and put in the thermometer. EASY PEASY!! Since we started using this smoker we no longer go out for BBQ and Steak. The sear box is a must to make your steaks melt in your mouth. Over the past year we have mastered the brisket, pulled pork and steaks. Smoked chicken is next, cant wait!

The Skinny:

  • Stainless steel lid and firebox
  • Meat probes included
  • Extra-large capacity hopper
  • Patented simple ash cleanout system
  • Slide & Grill Technology for direct flame cooking (SG models)
  • Sear box and Sidekick side burner upgrade for faster cooking

Things We Love:

Top of the Line

The Woodwind Series of pellet grills are the best Camp Chef has to offer. The shiny stainless-steel hood and sturdy black painted steel cart will definitely make you take notice. Great features and loaded with cooking versatility, Woodwind grills are ready to grill, smoke, sear, bake or anything else you may have in mind. They have a wide temperature range of 160-500 degrees. The digital controllers have Camp Chef’s Smart Smoke Technology which keeps the grill within +/-15 degrees of your selected temperature. Camp Chef’s patented ash clean out system offers easy, no hassle clean-up. After you cook, pull the knob on the bottom right side of the grill and the ash is dropped down into an easy-to-remove ash cup for dumping. You’ll be ready for your next cook in no time with minimal effort.

Slide and Grill

One of our favorite features of Woodwind SG models is Camp Chef’s Slide and Grill Technology, which allows you to switch from low-and-slow smoking to searing burgers, steaks, and more over an open flame. Pull the knob located on the left side of the grill to instantly gain access to the direct flame. This feature isn’t available on non-SG Woodwind models.

Included with Woodwind SG models are two stainless-steel meat probes. The probes plug into the easy-to-use control panel. Toggle between temperatures on the display with the push of a button. Easily monitor the grill’s ambient temperature as well as internal food temperatures during your cooks. Non-SG models include one probe.

All Woodwind models offer a 22-inch wide main cooking grate giving the grill 429 square inches of main cooking space. Woodwind SG models has two secondary cooking grates giving you a total cooking area of 811 square inches, while non-SG models have one secondary cooking grate for a total cooking area of 570 square inches.

Oversized Hopper

Woodwind SG has an extra-large 22-pound hopper, which is the largest hopper of any Camp Chef grill. Most popular brands of pellet bags are 20 lbs., so the hopper can accept an entire bag at once. This allows you to smoke food longer without having to check or add more pellets. This is convenient for long cooks or when smoking overnight. They also have window on the hopper to keep an eye on your fuel level. Non-SG models offer an 18-pound capacity hopper which is still considered large. The handy pellet clean-out door lets you easily change your pellet flavor or remove and store your pellets for your next cook. Simply ready your bucket, open the chute by pulling the knob located on the hopper.

Sear Box & Sidekick

Traditionally pellet grills are associated with low and slow cooking; however, the Sear Box and Sidekick Woodwind models provide quicker cooking options, great for weeknight cooks. Their built-in ignitions allow you to be cooking in no time. Both are conveniently mounted to the side of the grill and powered by propane. Hang your tank on the provided propane tank holder. The Sear Box features a 16,000 BTU stainless steel burner and enameled cast iron grates. It allows you to get a quick high-heat sear. Perfect for getting a nice crust on steaks, grilling burgers and more. The Sidekick includes a flat top griddle with a ready-to-cook seasoned surface. The 30,000 BTU cast aluminum burner makes cooking a breeze. Remove the griddle and use the sidekick as a camp stove.

Things To Consider:

While the Woodwind SG with the Sidekick or Sear Box is the most popular model, the propane tank mounts to the back of the grill on these models and expands its overall footprint. Keep that in mind when you’re ready to store the grill. Also, the SG Woodwind models have features not found on non-SG Woodwind grills, such as the larger cooking area, bigger hopper and Slide & Grill Technology.

Free Shipping on orders over $49

Ship your entire order to your home for free, especially the big stuff! *Continental US only

When will my item arrive?

Once shipped, items usually arrive within 3-5 business days. While UPS and FedEx are our carriers for smaller items, be aware that larger items and orders are shipped via freight. The freight process is a bit more complicated than what we’ve all come to expect for small parcels, so it’s important that you’re prepared and understand what’s required of you well before delivery day.

  • Most freight products ship on a pallet
  • Some carriers will call to schedule a delivery window, while others will deliver the shipment to a reasonably accessible location closest to your residence (their goal is to deliver as near a garage door as they can).
  • We’ll specify which process you can expect in your shipping confirmation email.

For carriers that schedule delivery appointments:

Carriers that schedule delivery appointments require you to be home for delivery and provide your signature. The delivery is made with a semi-truck with lift gate services, and the shipment is dropped off at the curb. If you authorize the shipping company to leave the delivery without a signature, BBQGuys can’t be held responsible for damages that occur during delivery. As complicated as this process may seem, we’ve only scratched the surface here — please review our detailed guide to freight delivery so there are no surprises when a freight shipment heads your way.

For carriers that deliver without an appointment:

Carriers that deliver without an appointment don’t require you to be home or set up a delivery window, and you aren’t required to sign for the pallet(s). Instead of scheduling an appointment, arranging your schedule to be home for the delivery, and signing to confirm receipt, you can sit back and let your items come to you. If you’re home at the time of the drop-off, you can request the driver place your delivery in the garage; if you’re out of the house, the driver will leave it near the garage or doorstep.
