If you are familiar with the name Viking, you probably already know about their indoor products line, which includes some of the best ranges, refrigerators, and kitchen appliances available. The Viking 500 is their premium series of gas grills, and it has powerful burners that stack up well to the competition. However, Viking 500 uses porcelain-coated cast iron grates which are less durable and only the 54 Inch model has an option to add an infrared burner.

What We Like
The Viking 500 series gas grills are made of rugged, 304 stainless steel with polished edges and a doubled lined hood to keep heat inside (a double lined hood also protects against discoloration). The Viking 500 series also has stainless steel control knobs that match Viking indoor products and blue LED lighting above every knob.

Most gas grills have a tray underneath the burners for catching drippings, but Viking 500 series has something a little different. The system consists of a full-width removable stainless drip, and individual removable trays within the main tray. This channels liquids to the precise drip tray location, and helps make cleanup easy because liquids are well contained (this is an exclusive Viking feature).

Viking has some impressive, powerful stainless steel burners in this grill. The burners are “u-shaped” welded stainless steel, and this shape does a great job at covering the grilling area so you get efficient heat distribution. The burners have one of the highest BTU ratings in the industry, and they are more than adequate for any grilling task.

Just like their indoor products, VIking builds a nice line of outdoor products so your outdoor kitchen can all have matching VIking components. We consider it a real bonus because that way you’ll just have one brand logo on all your equipment.

What We Dislike
Viking builds a quality grill, but there are several aspects that we found undesirable. First, only the 54-Inch model has the option to add an infrared main burner, which is great for searing steaks and other food. But these burners don’t perform well at lower temperatures.

The porcelain cast iron grates offer good heat retention, but much less durable than stainless steel. The porcelain coating helps protect the cast iron, but if it gets scratched, cast iron underneath is prone to rust deterioration.

Viking offers a limited one year warranty on the complete grill, and a lifetime warranty on the burners. Certainly there are grills with less warranty coverage, but Viking doesn’t really break from the norm on their warranty. In the end, what it really comes down to is whether or not the VIking 500 series is worth the money, considering the quality, features, performance, and warranty. That said, there aren’t any glaring problems that would stop us from recommending this grill, but there are brands that offer superior features and performance.

When will my item arrive?

Once shipped, items usually arrive within 3-5 business days. While UPS and FedEx are our carriers for smaller items, be aware that larger items and orders are shipped via freight. The freight process is a bit more complicated than what we’ve all come to expect for small parcels, so it’s important that you’re prepared and understand what’s required of you well before delivery day.

  • Most freight products ship on a pallet
  • Some carriers will call to schedule a delivery window, while others will deliver the shipment to a reasonably accessible location closest to your residence (their goal is to deliver as near a garage door as they can).
  • We’ll specify which process you can expect in your shipping confirmation email.

For carriers that schedule delivery appointments:

Carriers that schedule delivery appointments require you to be home for delivery and provide your signature. The delivery is made with a semi-truck with lift gate services, and the shipment is dropped off at the curb. If you authorize the shipping company to leave the delivery without a signature, BBQGuys can’t be held responsible for damages that occur during delivery. As complicated as this process may seem, we’ve only scratched the surface here — please review our detailed guide to freight delivery so there are no surprises when a freight shipment heads your way.

For carriers that deliver without an appointment:

Carriers that deliver without an appointment don’t require you to be home or set up a delivery window, and you aren’t required to sign for the pallet(s). Instead of scheduling an appointment, arranging your schedule to be home for the delivery, and signing to confirm receipt, you can sit back and let your items come to you. If you’re home at the time of the drop-off, you can request the driver place your delivery in the garage; if you’re out of the house, the driver will leave it near the garage or doorstep.
